Product Description

Learn to live like a Lebowski with the ultimate guide to life from the founders of the Church of the Latter-Day Dude.

THE DUDE ABIDES. . . AND NOW YOU CAN TOO! When you seek salvation from this stressed out, uptight world, there’s only one man to go to for guidance—the Dude. At once helpful, funny and profound (like The Big Lebowski itself), this survival guide from the founders of the Church of the Latter-Day Dude and their top disciples shows how to be as Dude-like as the Dude (well, almost):

•Secrets of sacred Dudeist practices
•The Seven Spiritual Laws of Taking it Easy
•Great Dudes who changed the world (without really trying)
•New feminist philosophy for special ladies
•The Way of the Dude applied to politics, ethics and finances
•A 12-step program for personal dudevolution
•The science of really tying your room together

All this and a lot more what-have-you. So the next time life throws you a gutterball, just pick up this book and ask, “What Would the Dude Do?” It’s your answer for everything.

Already on my Second Copy
by William Mitchell (5 out of 5 stars)
July 29, 2017

I just ordered my second copy. I put my first copy somewhere safe and now I think they've vanished from the material sphere.

Anyway, I ordered a second copy because I've come to love this book so very much. As a younger dude, I was drawn to Zen and Taoism, and tried my best to put them into use in my life. But then, about 6 years ago, I saw the Big Lebowski for the first time and I immediately recognized the Taoist undertones in the film. After watching the film again, I got on Google to see if anyone else had noticed these ties to Eastern Thought. Lo and behold, there was the Church of the Latter-Day Dude. Not only did other dudes notice, they built a church on it! At first I thought it was a joke, but then was touched by the sincerity exhibited by a great many of the so called Dudeists. You could believe anything you want, be you atheist, theist, or just plain agnostic, as long as you didn't try to piss on anyone else's spiritual rug, you were welcome. You could pursue your flavor of spirituality and still follow the Way of the Dude. These Dudeists even considered the Church an offshoot of ancient Taoist beliefs. The more I read, the more I fell in love with the group.

A few years later, the Dudely Lama published The Abide Guide, and I found that complex ideas from many ancient philosophies (including Taoism, Zen, and Stoicism, among many others) were suddenly broken down into easy to understand concepts that I could apply to my everyday life. Portraying these ideas in ad Dudeist light made perfect sense to me.

I read The Abide Guide through many times (until I lost my copy), and was very glad that my new copy arrived in the mail.

Take 'er easy

This book has so far been a fun and informative read. I signed up to be a minister on the Dudeism website for fun, and also to have the legal option to officiate weddings. But then I decided I really wanted to know more about this whole durned abiding thing and what Dudeism is all about. I'd like to think the messages in this book and abiding have made my life a little easy to deal with. This is a book of its time and place. If you have any interest in learning about Dudeism, this is a must read!

I bought this book for my boyfriend because he likes the movie and I am so glad I did. He loves it and said that it really forces you to look at the world in a new light. After it was delivered I flipped through it quite a bit and really enjoyed everything I read. This book is enjoyable and humorous while secretly guiding you to go with the flow and live life the "dudeist" way. An easy read with some really valuable point of views inside. I recommend!

A must read for aspiring Dudeists and ordained Dudeist Priests like me. This is the practical stuff to help you take it easy and abide. Dudeism is fun and funny too. This book is easy to read, breezy and uh, I forgot my train of thought.

Not for the casual fan
by Justin (5 out of 5 stars)

I give this book five stars because it fulfills it's intended purpose: to lay out the Dudeist worldview. A lot of people might not dig the style because the humor and subject matter, like the movie itself, are an acquired taste. But if you're interested in what the ethos is all about, or newly ordained in the Church of the Latter Day Dude, I highly recommend you get this as well as the Dude De Ching. But that's just, like, my opinion, man.

Written with a lot of humor but also includes deep thoughts and interesting ideas!

This book is presented in a humorous and entertaining way but offers a lot of interesting concepts and ideas. This book picks through many ideas and themes presented in The Big Lebowski and includes some humorous insight into these themes. This book also includes many sections and ideas that can really help tie your life together. Some serious themes but it never seems to take itself too seriously and I mean that in the greatest possible way. I highly recommend picking this one up and The Tao of the Dude which is also by Oliver Benjamin.

Boring review play by play of movie then lots of uniformed talking over religions. Waste of time.

THE Dudeism holy book

I really liked this book a lot. It was well-written and had some very keen anecdotes. The only knock I have is that towards the end, it feels like they are stretching it out to make the book seem a little bigger, but the front 7/8 are excellent. Required reading for all the Dudeists out there.
