No one better to write "Why We Love Star Wars"
by James Netzer (5 out of 5 stars)
May 23, 2019

Ken Napzok's love and passion for Star Wars is contagious. Ken is a prequelist (loves the SW Prequel Films) and I am not and believe I never will be. But the things that I have not liked in those movies get a fresh perspective from Ken that even gets me questioning my opinions.

Ken's optimism of Star Wars is very refreshing as we live in a constantly polarized world that gets more negative by the day.

If you enjoyed the book, I would highly recommend checking out his podcasts. Where his voice rises to the top and you'll find yourself listening to him talk about subjects you never thought you'd be interested in. Like me listening to him talk about professional wrestling and I've never watched a match in my life.

A must buy for Star Wars fans, no matter how hardcore
by Obaid Yousufzai (5 out of 5 stars)
May 18, 2019

This is the first review I've even given for anything ever and I'm ecstatic that it's for Ken Napzok. I've been a fan of his through Collider for years now, and his passion flows through this from cover to cover. I would say on the Star Wars Hardcore Fan meter, I'm about a 5 and I can't put it down.

PROS
1) Accessibility. I'll be honest, Star Wars was just never my thing. I always appreciated it, enjoyed it, seen them all, yada yada blah blah. Middle-Earth, Harry Potter and Comic Book Films have always been my more serious vices. But I've always been tip toeing my way over the years into learning more and more about the galaxy far, far away, either through books, podcasts or even video games. I've reached page 67 of this book so far, and immediately I can say I'd recommend this as one of my top 3 books to anyone who wants to know more about Star Wars. It has everything the hardcore Wookies want to reenact their favorite scenes and sit teary eyed when they're done, but also draws newer and more casual fans like myself deeper into the galactic lore.
2) The size of the book. Random, right? But you'll understand when your hands clasp this thing. The book feels great to hold in your hand. It's the absolute perfect shape, not too small to stress you out but not too big where its clunky and unmanageable. Easy to travel with and pages flip effortlessly. The book feels high quality, which I never thought I'd say about anything to avoid sounding like a tool, and the page length is a perfect 388.
3) Flow: Ken finds a way to keep the pace of the writing going in a way where I almost never felt detached. It zips from rehashing scenes to personal anecdotes flawlessly, almost as if we're just two guys reminiscing over a beer about which parts we loved the most.

Cons

I honestly can't come up with any. Go figure

CONCLUSION: When I first heard that Ken was putting a book together, I didn't know what the topic was, but I knew it probably was Star Wars. I felt extremely happy for him, knowing the many moments I'd get to experience through his ramblings on the SK Show, his sweaty rants on Jedi Council or his cackling commentary on the Movie Trivia Schmoedown. Ultimately, I felt excited that I got to support Ken with something that he was this passionate about and would recommend this to all Star Wars fans out there of all levels and to anyone who just wants a fun, passionate, interesting read from start to finish. 5 Stars.

It's Wonderful to Know that Some People Still Love Things
by Jessica (5 out of 5 stars)
May 21, 2019

It's kind of cool and hip these days to vomit all over everything with a big following, even things you USED to be a fan of. What I really really love about this book, and Ken Napzok, is that he doesn't do that. He's critical where he needs to be, but comes from such a place of love and reverence for a topic that, I agree, shaped my whole life and childhood. I have loved Star Wars since I can remember, and getting the opportunity to look back over someone else's favorite moments or things about the franchise that I may have forgotten or overlooked, was wonderful. Funny, smart and touching - if you like Star Wars now or have ever liked Star Wars, you should read this and remind yourself why and how this saga has changed our lives.

Remember, the Force will be with you always.

Ken will rekindle your love affair with that galaxy far, far away.

I've been a huge fan of Ken's insight and commentary into the Star Wars universe ever since I happened upon his web show Jedi Alliance back in 2015. It was a time of great joy and excitement for fans of the saga with new movies, books, comics and more just on the horizon. Since those early days I have continued to follow his exploits, from Collider Jedi Council to my favorite Star Wars podcast Forcecenter. In recent years the fandom has fallen on some rather dark times, but I've always found Ken to be a knowledgeable, insightful, and very positive fan whose view points and thoughts on Star Wars mirror my own in many ways. When I found out he had written a novel detailing his love for Star Wars, I immediately preordered it. Now that I have been fortunate enough to sit down and enjoy it, I can't recommend it highly enough to anyone whose a fan of the Wars. It will take you back to the times and places in your own life when Star Wars made in impact on you and will put a smile on your face as you fall in love with that far, far off galaxy from a long time ago, all over again.

Flawed, yet still somewhat entertaining
by James (2 out of 5 stars)

In general, this book was fine but I expected more. I admire the author's passion, but it seemed like his observations were very much on the surface and could've gone into more depth. I didn't feel like I learned anything new about Star Wars after reading this book and I think I just wanted a little more insight.

Furthermore, for a book that emphasizes the reasons why we love Star Wars, I was disappointed to see the author's criticisms and nitpicks scattered throughout the book. Judging by the title, I expected the book to be more uplifting but I ended up walking away disappointed by some of the negative comments. Coming from the perspective of a fan who didn't grow up with the Original Trilogy films first and foremost, I was also upset to see many of those criticisms channeled at the prequel trilogy films. I've heard most of these criticisms hundreds of times and I would've hoped the author would've opted not to mention them, being how repetitive they've been the last 20 years. There's a way to discuss Star Wars in an inspiring, positive, and thoughtful manner without having a deprecating comment attached and I didn't feel like the author executed on that.

What I struggled with most though was the choppy writing style. I had a very difficult time following the author's observations much of the time and it seemed like the writing just needed a little more work.

Despite its flaws, the book has its moments, and while it may have not been for readers like myself, perhaps others will obtain some level of enjoyment out of it. Additionally, while much of the book didn't work for me, another reader's enjoyment is much more important to me than my criticisms. I respect the author's perspectives and commend him for his efforts in contributing to the universe of Star Wars literature.

The force is strong with this one......
by Cornelius (5 out of 5 stars)

I remember the day like it was yesterday, I was 6 years old in Portageville Missouri. I was at my grandma and grandpa's house and in walks my Aunt Judy with a beta cassette and said, "Let's go in the back room, I have a movie you might like" She put in in the player and pressed play and left me in there. I watched it over and over and over again, and watched it over and over and over some more.

Then it was winter and snow was on the ground and I put a stick in the snow and climbed up the tree in the front yard and hung myself by the leg and reached out for the stick. It didn't move.

Sadly, with time and life, I lost the force in me and went about my life. And then I picked up this book and it literally got me misty eyed. Ken Napzok felt the same way I did, he just never let go.

I highly encourage you to pick up this book, you will go to a galaxy far far away, and you won't regret it.

Ken Napzok's Why We Love Star Wars is a great reminder of the hope, & joys this franchise brings
by Giacomo Modica (5 out of 5 stars)
June 26, 2019

Ken Napzok's book "Why We Love Star Wars" is a collection of essays detailing some of the many reasons he loves Star Wars, and can't stop talking about it on podcasts like ForceCenter, and youtube shows like Jedi Council, and the Movie Trivia Schmoedown. Napzok's journey starts from the all to familiar position of an OT fan who had some crisis' of faith when the PT was released. If this where his journey (or most of us) ended there, we wouldn't be reading this book though. This book shows extensively how an OT fan can "unlearn what we have learned", breathe, and accept the PT and ST for the treasures they can give us if we open our minds to them. Very important to me - this book is not just Nostalgia Through Rose Coloured Glasses. Star Wars is THE modern myth, and if you desire to relish the moments Napzok enjoys, maybe you will find yourself loving them (and some of your own) as well. This is "Why He Loves Star Wars", and if we trust our feelings, may be "We" can join him.

What True Passion reads like
by Chris Alexakos (5 out of 5 stars)
May 16, 2019

This book is a celebration of all the reasons we love this saga far far away. Ken, the author breaks down the reasons that this saga has captured our hearts and minds for over 40 years. This book come from a place of adoration and passion. He never pretends that everything is perfect in this huge saga, but he still finds a way to embrace all of it. If you like Star Wars or even if you are not a huge fan of it, and you want to understand what this is all about, this book is for you.

Great first book
by Alejandro (5 out of 5 stars)
May 20, 2019

Ken Napzok has written a brilliant book on why we all love Star Wars. He finds the small moments and large and gives us a perfect essay on why that subject is so enjoyable to Star Wars fans.

In a space that has become very negative lately, I'm happy to see a Star Wars fan pick up the mantle to keep the haters back.

Looking forward to his next book (if he ever decides to do one)
