Contech Definitely Stands Behind Their Products!!!

I purchased the Contech WaterDog Automatic Outdoor Pet Drinking Fountain on March 12, 2013. I received the WaterDog on March 15, 2013. Very quick delivery!! Fantastic!! Only to find that when I opened the box, I had received a used product. Ugh! I pay for a new product and receive a used one. I was furious! But o.k., I knew this was not the fault of Amazon nor Contech, but of the shipper/seller, BishopPets. I went ahead and assembled the product, hooked the unit up. Low and behold, my fear...it was defective. It dripped continuously. I bypassed Amazon and called Contech direct on March 18, 2013, Monday morning. They are so pleasant to deal with. Contech assured me they never send out used products. It was whoever listed it on Amazon, that sent it out used and described it as new. Contech asked me to write this, so #1. The public knows who is responsible and #2. So Amazon can check and see if they have had this problem with this seller before. In the end, Contech was fantastic. They are going to ship a New one out today for me and told me to just keep the Used one for spare parts if I ever need them! I don't believe I could have been happier with my experience! Thank you Contech for great customer service and not having the hassle of sending the product back!! Highly recommend!!!

Customer Service Review - parts replacement

This is a customer service review, the product speaks for itself with the noted continued purchases even after failure. I wanted to thank Contech in some meaningful way for the pleasant experience and for standing behind their product.

We have (as noted by many) purchased several of these units over the years as no matter what I have tried, this system works and works consistently for every sized dog in our lives. This is the first time I contacted customer service for help when it failed with a leak in the battery cover, resulting in corrosion of the contact plate.

The unit was 2 years old + 1 month but finances are tight and not finding parts on-line, I found their website and emailed them at 9:30 PM EDT using the provided address, requesting purchase of just the cover. They responded in less than 1 hour with a personable note, directing me to call customer support. My request was forwarded to the customer service group and when I called during business hours they had the email, were exceptionally pleasant and are not only sending me the part but warrantied it, knowing it was slightly out of date.

Almost struck out

I ordered my first unit and I was shipped what looked like an open box, repackaged item with packaging tape on the box. I didn't think it was brand new but I still installed it. It worked for about 5 days then the unit would click but no water would dispense. So I returned it and again I was shipped what looked like an open box, repackaged item. However, this 2nd unit would not work at all. So I returned it and was shipped a 3rd unit. Finally, this unit looked like it was brand new, wrapped with plastic. I installed the unit and now I have a happy Corgi, drinking fresh water.

I have been using the Water Dog for about 3 years now and it's nice to replace the old one with one that's finally working properly. I totally recommend this product for your dog; only if the company will stop shipping units that are not brand new. They need better quality control.

leaks and hard to install

The concept is great, but it drips and was a bit hard to install for our medium size dog. We had to raise our faucet about 24 inches in order to use. I would suggest that you make sure your faucet will adjust before you purchase. Once installed it didn't take long for our dog to figure out how to use it and that is nice. Another down side is the "eye" sees everything that walks by... including our cat! So be prepared for it to turn on anytime you walk by or it sees you. Our waterhose is on the same faucet (they provide a y-adapter) so when we water the flowers and yard, it turns on. We are working to install a french drain to that the extra water will at least go to the flowers rather than the mulch below the faucet. Had for a few months now and still leaks constantly. Ugh!

Pet Drinking Fountain

I love this product!!! I adopted a Great Dane that had been taught to drink from the sink. He barely touched water in his bowl. I installed an expensive "smart sensor" faucet in a back room for him to use but his head (the size of a cinderblock) won't trigger it, everything else does! ??? I have bought the other drinking fountains that recycle the water but it was way too labor intensive to keep it clean. - I was skeptical ordering this product but I am so happy I did. I had a contractor install a hose bib in one of our showers and hooked this thing up inside!!! Works GREAT!! It is consistent, always fresh clean water, no more slobber all over my sinks!! I just ordered a second one to put outside too. (The dane has mobility issues due to hip replacements.)

Worked great at first

Worked great at first but has had some issues and now that it is straight it seems like it takes forever sometimes to get it to despense water but the dogs have figured out that they just have to stand there and wait. I will say customer service did a nice job with a certain issue and will answer the phone and are knowledgable. I suppose it is worth it, I just wish it would turn on and turn off right away the way it did the first six months.

This product literally worked for 1 week. The first time it rained it stopped working. After a week of it drying out it worked for 2 days, and then stopped. NO wonder this product is no longer available. Do not buy!

On Second Thought...GREAT PRODUCT!

I've been waiting for this product for years...found accidentally online. I need to use it indoors (bathtub) since my dog prefers to drink from running faucets, and I tired of his off/on demands. Took me several hardware store trips to find the right adapters to make this work my way, and it does. However, it is sonar (not movement) triggered, makes it quirky for a small dog to use. A great idea, a good product, but could use some updates to make it truly incredible...and it isn't cheap...HOWEVER, it has changed (this aspect of) my life. Now my dog can get his own running spigot water at 1:30am without waking me up, not to mention when he comes back from walks and playtime. Takes a little training for both the machine and the dog, but not much. The dog learned a lot faster than the machine, but once they "got used to" each other, it is amazing. And the batteries seem to last pretty long now that it has settled into a routine. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, if you need one.

JUNK!!!

This is the Second WaterDog I have purchased! Both have FAILED!!!! First one started dripping. Second one replaced under warranty dripped from start. Customer Service from this Canadian Company SUCKS! After many emails and phone calls I had original unit replaced under warranty. Second unit junk also! No replacement repair parts. Save your money and aggravation, stay away, don't purchase!

I am always a little wary of negative reviews as it seems that most people these days are spoiled and think that the world is out to cheat them. With that said, I have nothing good to say about this product. It sounded to good to be true...and it is.

I ordered the Contech automatic fountain last summer for use by two well behaved boxers in a fenced back yard. I hooked it up and it worked well and the dogs figured it out in under 5 minutes. All was well for 3 months and then it began to malfunction. It would not turn on as the dogs stood in front of it or as I waved my hands in front of the sensor. Nothing. Changed the batteries. Nothing. Set out a bowl of water the next day and when I got home, the dogs had it working again. Point is, this thing is hit and miss. You can not rely on it to work. One day it's fine and then no matter what you do, it will not work. It drips all day as it will not shut off properly as well. It is a great idea that's time has not come yet.

I'm sure the company would act dumbfounded if called about the problems and would claim it works properly. It doesn't. But if you don't beleive me, I will be happy to sell you mine for 1/2 price and you can see for yourself.

I have not contacted the company because I'm sure that the best they would do is offer to replace it. No thanks.

Just get a Lik-It for $6.00 and save yourself the grief.
