I purchased this based on Cooks Illustrated recommendations (and against my common sense). The CI review stated it worked well with all sizes of mangoes. Not. Although it is nice and sharp, larger mango seeds are simply too big to fit through the hole. It works well with smaller mangoes, but I wouldn't recommend the product for such a limited application.

I never found a mango seed that this slicer fit. They were all too big so this product was useless.

This tools great. Lots of complaints about this unit getting dull quickly yet I have not noticed that at all. After over a year of use it's still super sharp.

EDIT:

For all the people complaining about it being dull:
1. Quit putting it in the dishwasher. That goes for anything with a sharp edge.
2. Quit slamming it down on hard surfaces. Go buy yourself a soft plastic cutting board and cut your mangos on that.

I was skeptical about this thing but I go through so many mangoes that I figured why not. But it works great, just as advertised. Some here said it was too small for the size of the mangoes they work with, but they must be working with some monsters, because this even fits the larger ones I get at the grocery store. It cuts well and cleanly and preserves most of the flesh, not leaving that much on the pit to be salvaged at all. If you're a mango nut like me, this is worth it - it really does provide a convenience, making a quick and clean operation out of what is usually a kind of fiddly job with a knife. Center it over the stem nub and push and you're golden. Good product.

Beats the old Oxo mango slicer

This mango slicer has a blade that is much superior to the one on my old Oxo mango slicer. It cuts through the mango easily but I still do slice off the bottom so I can balance the mango and the top so I can see the seed and orient the slicer to accommodate it. I only wish that there were a smaller unit for small mangos so less fruit is left on the seed but if that were true I wouldn't be able to snack on all that residual fruit while standing over the sink with mango juice running down to my elbows, Julia Child style!

Okay, why is it that I am just now learning to slice pineapples, mangos, onions ... I ask myself, I don't know I suppose having kids forces you to refine your culinary skills and you realize your parents didn't teach you everything. I was very amused by all of the reviews of this item and even tried to YouTube on how to slice a mango -- yes, this delicious fruit is difficult to pry away from the seed and its slippery outside of its skin ... Well, the bottom line is I LOVE MY OXO GOOD GRIPS MANGO SPLITTER -- worth every penny and makes slicing mangos a breeze!!!!!! Now my family can enjoy our favorite fruit year round!!! Oh, and if you need a Mango slicing tip, once you pry this delectable fruit from its seed using your Oxo Splitter, you are left with two plump halves -- you then leave the mango in the skin and use a knife cutting across several times in each direction until you are left with little square cubes still attached to the skin, after which you push on the skin side of the mango until the little cubes protrude out on the other side -- MAGNIFICENT (okay my friend shared that tip with me -- surprised it wasn't on you tube). Anyhow, enjoy your OXO Mango Splitter -- it works!!!

Works well. It leaves a little behind, but mangoes are so tricky to work with, it's worth it. It's also a lot neater. I was concerned that some reviews said it didn't work on large mangoes, but I get the largest ones they have at the grocery store and it works perfectly. Very happy!

If you like to eat mangoes, do yourself a favor and buy this mango cutter. It makes cutting mangoes SO much easier. Seriously, it'll change your life. OXO products are well made and if you ever have any issues, just contact them and they will remedy the issue.

Trying to pit and slice mangoes is not the easiest thing to do given that the pit is an awkward shape, and I hate the waste involved. I make a lot of tropical fruit salads so mangoes are a must for me. I heard about the mango splitter and decided to get into Amazon's site to have a look. Well I bought this and now I can't believe how easy and waste free splitting mangoes are with this little gadget.

I peel ripe mangoes with a sharp potato peeler ( a breeze) then cut a small slice off the bottom so that the mango sits flat on the board. Place the splitter over the top following the shape of the mango then drop the splitter. DONE! One step and the mango pit comes free with only a very thin layer of flesh that naturally clings to the pit and can't be removed.

Every once in a while a revolutionaly kitchen gadget comes along that makes an easy job of what was once a chore.

Great quality, sharp blade, easy to handle. Highly recommened.

Mangos are my favorite fruit but such a pain to peel and slice. well, no more! This gadget is worth its weight in gold! Sliced in seconds, no cut fingers and easy clean up! Yah!! Follow the tip on card for cubes!
