Missing pieces... go figure

I would have figured that in this day in age that I would not be missing pieces on such an expensive Lego set. Not only that, but it is a pain in the rear to put together. It is designed beautifully but difficult to put together. If you are thinking of getting this, I would recommend using super glue to keep the pieces from falling off while building it.

Bought this for my son for Christmas. What a great time he had putting it together....Every LEGO lovers dream kit!! Very cool. It holds together well without having to reinforce with glue like the other larger kits do.

Impressive, Most Impressive...but you are not a Jedi yet!

I just finished assembling this kit for the 2nd time. As it was the first time I put this together (back in 2005), I found this set to be challenging, and sometimes a downright pain in the rear.

While the finished kit looks awesome, and I'm proud to have this on display, I must say that I was quite frustrated with the layout of the instructions. Numerous times I had to guess where certain pieces fit, such as which part of the 2x8 gray piece stacks on top of the 1x2 dark gray piece. Having the Death Star image angled and 3-dimensional sometimes only adds to the confusion. Trial and error is what it took sometimes. I agree with another reviewer in that the laser and laser disc need significant improvement. It's not sturdy or secure to attach that portion of the assembly, and the lasers are a pain to line up to a point on the main beam.

The color codes in the instructions are also poor. When it's hard to tell the difference between a dark gray piece or a black piece, improvement needs to be made in the printing of these manuals. One piece in particular was even listed as the wrong color. Every photo I've seen of this kit, and the online inventory list for this kit lists one of the pieces as light/medium gray (which is what came with my kit) yet in the official photos from LEGO, and in my instructions, the piece is shown as dark gray. This isn't the first kit I've run into this problem with.

But again, all negativity aside, and once complete, this kit is simply amazing!

Don't jiggle the table!
by emme by design (4 out of 5 stars)

Santa brought this behemoth for our 8 year old this year. Translation- Dad spent 5 days at the dining room table with every bowl in the house being used to sort Lego's.

This kit is one of the older style kits. The bags aren't numbered or labeled with any sort of key. All 2000+ pieces needed to be sorted out for building ease.

When building the Death Star, have boxes handy to prop the model up. You build it one half at a time. (left-right)It tips over whenever you let go.

Our son loves the model, and was able to help with the building process, but it's only a matter of time and Nerf darts before it's back to square one.

A Sad Feeling of Defeat
by Dominick Howard (4 out of 5 stars)

My parents bought this for me a few years ago, I'm 17 now, probably 12 at the time. Anyways I have always loved legos but this was one of the most challenging pieces i had ever tried to build. It was a lot of fun putting it together until it wanted you to put one huge section on at a time. Once you do this it would become to heavy on one side and tip over and break. Which would lead me to restart. Well after trial and error time and time again, I gave up. I destroyed What i already built and tossed the pieces into one of my two bins of other lego pieces.

To this day it haunts me that this is the only lego set i have never finished. I am very tempted to buy it again and complete it, but not at this price. Great built but a very, very poor design. the LEGO SUPER STAR DESTROYER might be my next build.
