Doesn't last, cheap construction

I was really enjoying this slicer for the first few weeks. It now longer has fluid slicing action. One of the problems is it's long handle. This allows for a significant amount of wiggle at the slicing end so that the blades no longer move down the middle of the grooves of the plunger piece. They lock up on the side wall, get stuck and dented. Not only that but the blades are not starting to come loose. They are molded into this aluminum uni-body frame and there is no way of re-tightening them or fixing the loose blades. It started to degrade right after the 30 day return period. I will be replacing this item with one that doesn't have such a long handle, or no handle at all. I was concerned about the handle length but there were so many positive reviews I decided to risk it. This product will not last.

Overall, I'd buy it again.

I work in a kitchen and bought this to slice several boxes of mushrooms ever week. As a whole it works great, however I'm only giving it 4 out of 5 stars because, 1. Its pretty hard to clean. We are talking about mushrooms so the last thing you want is fungas left on a kitchen tool for a few days, ideally you need a tooth brush to clean it or a large bristle brush to get in every nook and cranny of this slicer. 2, when you go to slice something if you don't apply the pressure just right you'll catch the blades on the top preventing you from fully closing / slicing anything. I probably do this 1 in 5 times now, less often now that I've getting use to it but if you use this say, once a week for a handful of things, or even less than that you'll end of catching the blades every time. With that aside, I'd buy it again.

Not dishwasher safe, and doesn't cut well
by Kat (1 out of 5 stars)

This was accidentally placed in the dishwasher, and it came out looking like it had been through a fire. Blacken, dirty, and what looked like soot all over it.

It doesn't cut anything particularly well, the blades seem a little too blunt. It sort of squishes, rather than cuts.

It is also a little too small for a medium to large egg. Part of the egg hangs over. I have never been able to cleanly cut anything with it.

The wire style cutters may not last, but at least they cut cleanly.

Really great, would be perfect if a bit bigger
by Jen W (5 out of 5 stars)

I have gone through many over the years. This is by far the best one.

Pros:
-Very sturdy. The blades are solid metal rather than wire and stand up to use.
-Alignment - the blades and grooves sometimes got out of alignment and wouldn't let you push the food through all the way unless you apply a lot of force to bring it back in line. This one seems to hold, so it's less work to get the job done
-Dishwasher safe
-Has a little lever that holds it shut for storage

Cons:

Would be perfect if only it were a little bit bigger. I used it mostly for strawberries and if I don't get the food exactly in the middle where the blades are, then I'm trying to push through solid metal which doesn't really work too well. So as long as I make sure the food is positioned right, I'm good to do. Considered docking a star for this minor point but decided that this was really SO much better than all the others, it should still get the 5.

Doesn't work that great on mushrooms.

I love mushrooms and, when my cheapo egg slicer died, I thought this would be a perfect tool to handle both mushroom slicing AND egg slicing!

It does work well on eggs.. however.. it tends to squash and tear mushrooms and can't handle really large mushrooms as it doesn't open very wide. So, I've gone back to cutting mushrooms by hand.

Glad I purchased this useful tool

I agree with the other reviewers that the blades on this slicer make all the difference. I have used it several times already and am very satisfied with this tool. Looks like this tool will last me years and years. Makes quick work of slicing mushrooms and boiled eggs for our salads! If you don't mind the silver color dulling, just throw it in the dishwasher like I do. It works the same whether it's shiny or not! I like the locking feature, too, so that it fits easily in the drawer.

Design Flaw
by ninininja (2 out of 5 stars)

Pros: Sturdy compared to the wired slicer so it will slice harder items as mushrooms, strawberries etc.

Cons: Design flaw. When you lay it on the counter and push the blades into the mushroom the stopper also
pushes down so the handles get stuck which you have to release EVERY single time. If the stopper
was placed on the other side this would not happen. VERY ANNOYING :(
The blades do not line up well. So you can't just keep slicing endlessly. You will have to stop
to adjust the blades to line up periodically. VERY ANNOYING :(
When the blades become dull it will just crush instead of slice. As I stated above when the blades don't
line up the blades scorch the base and that also makes the blades dull :(

My recommendation is to shop around for a different one.

All this stress is not worth it.

Eggcellent

I really got this for eggs because I got tired of the wires breaking on those cheapos. This has blades, is much sturdier and slices very well. Larger mushrooms (Like from Costco) need to have the stems trimmed a little, but it is better than hand slicing the whole batch. It meets and exceeds my expectations. Should this grow legs and walk away when my kids come by (You know what I mean wink wink), I would buy another.

I was excited to try this for slicing mushrooms and eggs because our old egg slicer was broken by slicing mushrooms. There were two serious problems: First, it appears not to be washable in the dishwasher, because the first time we ran it through, the cheap zinc alloy it's made of corroded and produced a dark grey powder on the surface that got all over our hands and was very hard to remove. Second, it's too small to slice an average egg, squashing the ends of the egg and making a mess.

It does slice mushrooms quickly, which makes it valuable, but I may not keep it if it's that hard to wash.

will buy another one as a gift
by Amazon Customer (4 out of 5 stars)

I wanted to buy a good slicer. I did research and even watched some youtube videos. I thought this one looked the best so I bought it to try it out. Slicer came quickly and as described. I use it daily for strawberries as well. I've had this slicer and been using it for a couple of months now and it's still working great. The only con (and reason I didn't give it 5 stars) sometimes the blades don't line up with the slots and I have to turn it over and move the blades to line it up to go through. It cleans off pretty good and I can put it in the dishwasher. I like it and I will buy one as a gift for my sister :) I would recommend this.
