Product Description

Lawson Blue Ridge Camping Hammock

A unique, hybrid tent-hammock that has been rated #1 on the market by leading publications like Backpacker and Outside.

The patented design allows for use suspended, as a hammock, or on the ground, as a tent, greatly increasing camping terrain options that are often limited by the type of shelter you’re using. The spreader bar and arch pole system also keep the bed of the hammock flatter and more taut, eliminating much of the uncomfortable “cocoon” and “banana” effect created by most hammocks.

The Blue Ridge Camping Hammock has attached no-see-um bug netting and a rainfly that attaches directly to the hammock, so no need for additional trees for tying off a tarp or staking. Lightweight, easy to set up and perfect for all types of camping or anyone looking for a comfortable, bug/water proof place to relax or sleep. Elevate your camping game with a Lawson Hammock!

LAWSON Hammock-- AWESOME! (homemade underquilt)
by Tony B (5 out of 5 stars)
July 21, 2016

I'm 47. 220lbs. This is my first hammock.

Preparing for one week trip to Boundary Waters; I've slept in this hammock a few times overnight to work out any issues.
1. I really need those side tie-downs. The stability is awesome with those. And, you don't need all four. Just two works fine. I'm more than happy to deal with those with the incredible comfort this product supplies. I've slept on my back, side and belly with no issues at all.
2. The space is incredible! The little rings that hang down inside can be easily tied together with some cord for a long "ridge line" to secure things to.
3. I bought a 10X10 tarp because I like the open air. I am also worried about having to set up or tear down in the rain. I still bring the Lawson Tarp in case the wind is very very bad or the rain decides to come sideways. Love the Larson Tarp, I just don't want to be so bottled up.
4. This is my under quilt: OutdoorsmanLab Lightweight Camping Sleeping Bag. I used wife's sewing machine and stitched on some webbing and shock cord. A few clips. And there you go. Its a perfect summer under quilt. I don't need my ThermoRest now.
5. Had a simple issue upon purchase and the owner of Lawson fixed it immediately without any hesitation. GREAT CUSTOMER SVC!

I LOVE THIS HAMMOCK. Pics are from my backyard.

UPDATE: after my trip to the Boundary Waters I learned a lot.
1. IF you like a lay flat like me, I keep the hammock tightly pulled between the trees. Needs guy lines.
2. IF you like a more traditional curved lay. It is more stable and does not need guy lines.
3. This is not an ultra light set up. The weight really added up over the miles. OK for me, not for everybody.

Well made, quality design, materials and superb construction - 10 star product

This is a top of the line piece of outdoor equipment.

Anyone claiming that it's "overpriced" has had zero experience with the cheap versions that abound on Amazon.

You get what you pay for and this hammock is prime example of that.

I'm not one for lengthy reviews but I will say this, just look at the images and make note of the design. Do you see how this hammock just isn't a nylon bag strung between two points, but has a bar-rope system on each end to maintain it's structure and shape? It's the difference between sleeping on a comfortable semi-flat, stable surface, as opposed to a sagging, swaying, u-shaped sleeve. In the poorly designed hammocks you can forget about rolling over or switching sides during the night as you are basically stuck in sack. This hammock is more like a bed that allows you to move and change position the way you normally would on your regular mattress.

One more rad thing about this hammock is that it can be set up on the ground, in a tent like fashion, if there are no suitable hanging options available. Try doing that with one of the $30 dollar nylon bags :)

You'll want a really good sleeping bag as air temps fluctuate more than ground ...

This has hammock tent has held up for three years now. You'll need extra rigging and carabiners which add to it's already portly weight. NRS boat straps and hammock bliss tree saver straps combine to give a long reach for varying tree gaps. It weighs and has as much bulk as much as a traditional two person tent. I'm usually able to stuff my boots and other gear in the flat triangular portion outside of the tent but under the fly for dry storage. Those items have a tendency to fall out while climbing in. You'll want a really good sleeping bag as air temps fluctuate more than ground temps. Not for the claustrophobic. It can become a little humid inside. So far it is perfectly sheltered from wind and rain and I have had no issues with water intrusion.

So far, the most comfortable hammock I own (and I have several hammocks from different companies). I am 6'2" and 215 pounds. Fit inside this hammock with no trouble getting in (in the beginning it was odd but once you grasp your technique to get inside it is a breeze). Once inside, plenty of room to move around. I find out that for me by setting at four feet above ground and stretching it really well works the best. My 17 years old son got in and wants to claim it for himself......is no happening!!!!!. I will order another one for him. The hammock kit is no light but for short distances backpacking should work fine.

This is the ultimate camping hammock. + amazing company
by Samuel C. Lambert (5 out of 5 stars)

I have been a hammock fanatic for years and years. Never wanted to be a tent guy, so I sought the perfect setup (For me). I tried ultralight sling style hammocks, and I've tried traditional setups. While they all offer their pros/cons, the Lawson is to me, the perfect camping hammock. I'm one of those guys who researches the crap out of everything before I buy, and the BRCH was the end to my long search. It lays flat, which makes it very comfortable. I recommend taking advantage of the tie out points for stability as well. Also, Lawson themselves are an amazing group of individuals with superior customer service! We keep up with each other on instagram and they are always kind and responsive.

There are a couple of improvements I would love to see to the BRCH in the future. I would love to see the Aluminum spreader bars be upgradable to something lighter weight like carbon fiber. Also upgrades from rope to something lighter and stronger like Dyneema Rope. This hammock can be on the heavy side, but for a total shelter system its right on par when you consider not having to bring a sleeping pad/footprint (all that tent stuff). Also, I'd like to see it break down much smaller and have quick detach points to separate the spreader bars w/ropes attached from the hammock (or vice versa) to fit it into your pack however you'd like. Also, because the inside of this hammock is so huge when fully strung up (which is awesome), I'd love to see some more inside attachment points to really customize hanging and attaching gear such as your sleep system or any other gear.

Overall, amazing company, amazing product, keep doin the good work! Buy this thing.

IT'S BACKPACKER MAGAZINE #1 FOR A REASON= QUALITY!!

the weight to strength ratio is amazing!! the most easy to set-up with out instructions!! the most easy to put together because every thing is laid-out in front of you!! I camped in it for a week straight. and every day I woke up with no back pain and full of energy! amazing!! the only small list of extra gear you need to make the package complete is 4 tent stakes to secure the 4 corners, some paracord to attach to the stakes, and also the two hoops, which you attach to the top of the tree where the hammock is tied to the tree, and a good after-market set of 2 tree attachment straps and a quality set of over-size lockable carabiners. i added a length of paracord inside the hammock between the 2 flash light holders to hang my sox and wrist watch so i could hear the alarm clock on my watch in the morning. BEST TENT- TREE HAMMOCK EVER!!!

RAINPROOF!
by Sean (5 out of 5 stars)
June 29, 2019

I've had this for a few years, used it multiple times, finally reviewing it:

Last week I went backpacking with this hammock for the first time in "inclimate" weather. It rained sideways from 10pm until 5am. I was bone dry in the morning. The condensation from my breathing lined the inside of the fly. Enough had built up over 6 hours that the big rain drops were sprinkling my face with the condensation, but absolutely no rain got in anywhere. I was amazed. I've never been outside for such hard, long rainfall and stayed so dry.

My only qualm is that it doesn't include the necessities for setup. At this price point, I feel like it should include the straps, carabiners, and guy lines & stakes required to hang it and make it stable. I knew those things weren't included when I bought it and made the purchase anyway, I wasn't deceived or anything.

I stake 2 opposite corners with paracord, and the hammock is extremely stable. The two interior pockets are a nice touch, it's still easy to lose a headlamp or the like even though there's a spreader.

Plenty of room for me. Im 6' and weigh 200lbs.

compelled to rave about this after getting an inferior replacement
by B. Jensen (5 out of 5 stars)

someone stole my Lawson hammock a few weeks ago and i replaced it with a 50$ pro-force hammock and it's like trying to go from upper class to poor in a hammock sense. the lawson lets you spread your legs, which you will notice isn't very possible in the cheaper hammocks that are bunched together at the end. in the pro-force hamock you can spread your feet but then they are against the bugnetting.

it's also very hard to get a breeze, which is easy in this beautiful Lawson that i miss so much.

you don't feel like you're going to rip it in half every time you get in.

you don't have to worry about ripping flimsy straps off that hold the bugnet up, suspended by another line because they didn't have the engineering foresight that Lawson clearly does with it's simple bugnet suspension system.

if you can afford it, get this hammock. if you can't - get an anti-gravity recliner or cheap hammock and just suspend a cheap bugnet around it. look at how people are 'relaxing' in these 50$ bugnet hammocks and you will see that it's not comfortable at all unless you like playing larva in a cocoon.

QUIT LOOKING.. JUST BUY THIS ONE...

YEAH.. Forget any other hammock for camping, nothing beats the Lawson. I am a big Guy 6'1" and 280 and Its perfect for me. Taller Guys will have no problem. The way the rain fly integrates is second to none. and the view looking up through the canopy at the stars is absolutely stunning. Its stable when you sleep, I even found myself rolling on my side and while it will tilt to an angle its not extreme, and you don't feel like your going to flip or fall out . Is it slightly more expensive than other hammocks, sure, However this is one of the time when you really get what you pay for.

So far so good! The price is amazing for this tent/hammock
by Amazon Customer (4 out of 5 stars)

So far so good! The price is amazing for this tent/hammock! its very spacious inside and gives you the luxury of fine-tuning how tight or loose you want it at different spots by adjusting the little strings on the sides. It's much more comfortable than traditional hammocks and it sets up pretty quick once you get the "hang" of it ;) This is hammock camping at another level for sure. You can sleep above rocks, streams, logs, on the side of a hill, over anything or anywhere, just find two trees. If you can't find two trees you can use it as a tent which is not as spacious but still works great. Yes, it's much heavier than a traditional camping/backpacking hammock at 4.25lbs, but if you are willing to sacrifice having some more weight for comfort, this is so worth it. I do use a sleeping mat for insulation and even more comfort. The only reason it does not get 5 stars from me is because of the rain fly. It works great, no rain gets in, it's just that you can't see anything which is why I'm out in the great outdoors, I want to see nature! But you are essentially cocooned in. Also, if it suddenly starts to rain you will be pretty wet before you get the rain fly on unless you already planned ahead and had it on half way when you first set it up. I am planning on making my own rain fly out of clear, heavy duty painter's tarp (super cheap at Home Depot or Lowes), black duck tape and some paracord. You can always just buy an already made one too. This hammock would be PERFECT if they had the ridge line style rainfly. I use the SOLITUDE Hammock Tree Straps System with it which I highly recommend. I will update this review with pictures after a few more adventures and once I make my clear rainfly. Let me know if you have any questions.
