Great solution for tight spaces - power window shades, in-wall television
by Kendra Fowles (5 out of 5 stars)

Others have commented these takes up space within the box and it's true - I've attached a photo comparing this to a standard Leviton receptacle and 22 cubic inch box. I've found a pair of 12/2 fits just fine but I wouldn't recommend more than two cables per box. Trim is integrated, wallboard needs to go on before final attachment of this outlet.

Clearance cancels benefit

You probably are looking at this to fit a plug behind something. It MIGHT work if your plug is very narrow -- like a simple 2 or 3-prong plug with no adapter at the point of the prongs. I could not even get most of my USB charging wall warts to fit, nonetheless the plug I bought it for.

The dimensions of the opening were not well described at the time of purchase. My measurements:

OPENING
1 5/8" wide
2 5/8+" tall
15/16" deep (from faceplate)

It takes up more of your work box of course, but is as compact as possible (1 11/16" deep). Push-in or loop/screw connectors, though it lacks the nice clamp plates you find on the screws of some nicer outlets.

Great for flush mounted TV.
by Jeremy (5 out of 5 stars)
May 21, 2016

It functions, and fit in my normal (fairly shallow) electric box.

I wanted to mount a TV in a location where I already had an electric outlet. For some inexplicable reason, the previous owners had installed this particular electric outlet at nipple height... Lucky for me, it was a great spot to mount a TV, which would utilize this odd placed outlet and cover the weird outlet perfectly.

I chose the most shallow TV mount I could find (why would anyone choose a mount that jutts out more than it absolutely has to?). The flush mount would give too little clearance for the tv's power cord... Well not with this baby.
5 minutes of work and problem solved.

Nearly same as the Cooper product
by david in nyc (5 out of 5 stars)

Nearly identical to the Cooper recessed outlet

Cooper Wiring Devices TR780W-BOX 15-Amp 3-Wire 125-Volt Tamper Resistant Recessed Duplex Receptacle 2-Pole, White

But this one has 3mm smaller bezel (in height and width) and has a more matte finish. Identical depths (recessed plug and back of the outlet). The Cooper product is tamper resistant, if that matters to you. I liked the appearance of this one more but aside from the TR feature of the Cooper (which was also 1 dollar less at the time of purchase) they are pretty much the same.

Remember to attach a dedicated ground wire--neither product has the metal "ears" for automatic grounding to a metal box.

Great product for flush applications; don't forget to connect the GND wire
by Solar_Ize (5 out of 5 stars)

Impressed with the solution that this receptacle brought to me. It fits perfectly well in any metallic box behind the drywall and allows for a recessed space for flush mounting of media equipment and TV power cords. Very satisfied with the product. Please note very important: the receptacle screws are not grounded, so if you are in a modern installation where metallic boxes are usually grounded and any receptacle screwed into them would automatically also be grounded, this one does not come with grounded screws so you must connect the third GND wire.

Helps get furniture closer to the wall
by Xavier Cole (4 out of 5 stars)

I installed this behind a chest of drawers in the master bedroom of my house. If you have changed outlets or light switches before, this is a pretty easy install...except that the depth of your outlet box can make it difficult to get this flush with the wall. If possible, I would recommend making sure you have a deep box to put this in.

Value for the cost is good, though. Overall, if you have some experience with minor electrical work, I would recommend this product.

New Fan of Recessed Outlets
by CWood (5 out of 5 stars)

I am a new fan of these recessed electrical outlets. This is was 2nd one I have purchased. This one was to replace outlet over mantel on fireplace. These are perfect when you don't want the plug protruding out and taking up room. Easy to install and looks nice. Just wish they offered in more colors for those places to blend it in so it is not so noticeable also need to make with GFCI. Looking for more places to use these.

Great for behind furniture.. remember the ground wire!
by MG (5 out of 5 stars)

Perfect for what I needed behind our dresser against the wall.. just deep enough for the TV plug , and for what it's worth - the power plug for a Fire Stick fits in the recessed part (width wise) just fine. As others have stated, it's important to connect your ground wire to the outlet when you wire it in. Do that and you should be happy. You can find these at Lowes and save a few bucks but c'mon.. Amazon delivers to your house!

Easy to use and a great look.
by Truck Spank (5 out of 5 stars)

I used this to run an outlet behind my new TV wall mount so there are no cables dangling down. This was easy to mount even in a standard-depth old work box. A deeper box would be nice, but is not necessary unless perhaps if you're installing this in the middle of a circuit rather than at the end, and would need room for another romex in the box.

This is easier to install than a standard outlet since there's no cover plate, it's all built into one unit.

Gives you just a little extra space to push something to the wall
by EJ (5 out of 5 stars)
April 25, 2014

I had a desk I wanted to shove right against the wall, and I couldn't because the big fat plug was jutting out. I got this to give me just a little more space.

This did the trick nicely allowing me to push my desk just a bit closer. I subsequently used another one to perform the same maneuver with a dresser.

The one downside is that you can't plug in an adapter to make several plugs out of one. It's also not possible to put an A/C adapter in there unless you buy one of these:

Coleman Cable 6991 Power Strip Liberator, 8-Inch Extension Cord, 3-Pack

I was also pleasantly surprised at the quality. It is a nice solid heavy plastic--more durable looking than many wall receptacles. Even though I hid mine, I think it is nice looking.
