Once switched onto auto, watch as it shines and glows to create a comforting atmosphere as it gets dark. A great option for Xmas or birthday gifts and presents, suitable for both friends and family. An ecological alternative to most lightings, decorations or ornaments. A bright design from Suck UK, makers of the greatest gifts on earth!

Features

  • Solar powered light inside a traditional frosted glass mason jar with watertight seal to be used both indoor/outdoor. Switches on automatically when it gets dark. Perfect as a bedroom night light, or decorative lamp for bedrooms, gardens, festivals, parties, patios and balconies.
  • The Sun Jar creates an ambient light both in and outdoors with its frosted glass exterior. A solar panel recharges the battery during the day. Sun Jars work best in direct sunshine, outside or in a sunny window, and better still it has a watertight seal so can withstand even the wettest of summers.
  • 1x Rechargable 700 mAh NI-MH battery included, providing super easy charging. Simply open the sunjar, flick the switch to ‘charge’ and leave in direct sunlight. Once charged, your festive light will automatically illuminate for up to 5 hours as soon as it gets dark. When you first receive your Sun Jar, leave it to charge for 2-3 days in the best sunlight you can find!
  • These on trend coloured jam jars are an easy way to add some sparkle to your backyard, porch, gazebo, garden or patio. A durable and eco friendly lantern alternative that can withstand seasonal change, watch your deck, balcony or pathway twinkle once the sun has set. Great for decorating on occasions and every day enjoyment.
  • A great gift for Christmas, birthdays or for new homeowners as a moving in present. Available in three colours: Yellow, Pink and Blue.

Great product with minor set-back. Would recommend; especially if you catch these on sale!

So, I ordered 4 of these when they were on sale for under $7 a piece. I had a 75% success rate with my order. One just never turned on. I gave it a few days to see if it would kick in but no luck. I contacted Amazon's customer service and they took the charge off; very hassle-free. I still was able to keep the large mason jar and these are 'top notch'! I would say that the jar alone could be sold for $5. It's heavy, well made and the glass is frosted.

The 3 that did work are GREAT. If you plan to keep them near a window, make sure they are near a point of extended and direct sunlight contact. I would advice setting them in a clear, shadow-free location and let them charge before bringing them in during the evenings.

Good luck, Suck UK on your future fail rate %. Perhaps I just got a rare lemon, who knows... ? I guess the one with the data. :) Anywho, great product and I would TOTALLY recommend these if you find them on sale!

Great! But...

First thing - REPLACE the crap battery that comes with it for a name brand one! This will make it keep a charge and actually glow for a LONG period of time! Second - OPEN the lid to charge it! Seriously - frosted glass MUTES light. Just make sure you keep your solar panel clean & dry. I put mine under a natural light lightbulb and my charge goes for at least 7-9 hours. And it is awesome when it works : Perfect night light - but it is BRIGHT - so I keep it far away from the bed!

Nice concept; works ok
by M. L. Firm (2 out of 5 stars)

The sun jar works as promised . . . sort of. First, the supplied NiMH AA battery is only 700Mh, so it doesn't hold much of a charge. I replaced it with a better AA rechargable battery from Target ( 2200 Mh Enegizer - 4 pack for $10.00), and performance greatly improved. Still, as the instructions state, the jar must be placed in direct sunlight to charge. When I leave it outside, it does take a charge well and the light glows brightly all night. But if you simply leave the jar on your windowsill to charge, the results are disappointing - the light is dim and lasts only a short while. I suspect that as we head into fall and winter, charging will be more difficult.

Again, the concept of a rechargable nightlight is a good one, and my kids love it. But the battery and the PV charging panel are both undersized for the task. Of course, you can always recharge the battery in a AC charger, but that defeats the purpose of having a rechargable nightlight. The deduction of stars was based primarily on my subjective perception of value. If the Sun Jar were $20, I would give it 4 stars, but would still replace the battery with a new one.

Rubbish in a nice jar
by TruthSeeker (1 out of 5 stars)

The company from which I bought this was wonderful. It arrived very quickly. It's really a piece of rubbish though. I sat it in a very sunny southern window for three days (with the switch turned off) so it would really charge before using it for the first time. That third night, I switched it on and watched it glow brightly for one minute, and then very poorly for another ten minutes, at which point it went out completely. I tried again three more times (different days, after recharging the battery) with the same poor effect. I thought perhaps that the rechargeable battery might have been old, so I bought new ones. Same thing again.

Save your money, for although this is a lovely concept, it just DOESN'T WORK!

Not a color Match with earlier purchase.

I bought this Sun Jar to be a companion to another unit of the same color I bout the year before. Unfortunately the color (yellow) while relatively the same (and listed as such) does not really match and the output on this new jar is no where near as bright as the one I bought a year earlier. That was a bummer. I wouldn't buy another unless they could promise that the colors make for a matched set.

Fun

This is a fun item. It would be nice if the light lasted longer than what the maker says, which is five hours. I haven't timed it. If it's in a bedroom, the person or people in the room will probably be asleep way before the charge runs out anyway.

After 3 full days of charging it glows for about an hour. Not worth the money. Amazon, send me a label please? I don't want to pay to return it.

I love unique lighting and these sun jars are so beautiful at night. They give a nice glow in a frosted glass jar. I actually own 5 of them. I have the blue, orange and pink ones!
