SURGE PROTECTION SAFETY
If a surge protector ever becomes hot to the touch, shut off the unit immediately.
Never daisy chain power strips to other power strips or extension cords
Never allow a power strip to be exposed to a moist environment
Avoid running too many high energy consuming appliances through a single surge protector at once

High energy consuming electronics/appliances include window AC units, space heaters, refrigerators, washers/dryers etc.
Only one power strip should be plugged into a single two outlet electrical socket
Never cover a surge protector with carpet, furniture, or anything that would limit or prevent air circulation
IMPORTANT: The protective components inside surge protectors that absorb over voltage spikes will eventually wear out. Most estimates put the average lifespan of a surge protector from 3 to 5 years.

The swivel plug-in sets it apart
by Karen Little (5 out of 5 stars)

This is a review for the Belkin 3-Outlet SurgePlus Mini Travel Swivel Charger Surge Protector with Dual USB Ports (2.1 AMP / 10 Watt), BST300 by Belkin.

I put this device to the test this week and I'm very happy with the results. It's especially good for awkward angles and for consolidating the charging of your electronics while traveling.
- Be sure to check the specs for the charger's dimensions to make sure it's a size you're happy with.
- The swivel feature on the plug works just as I'd hoped it would. It perfectly simplifies connectivity issues in hotel rooms.
- I appreciate the sturdy construction and the size is appropriate for the features provided.
- The prongs on the swivel head plug have a snug-fitting cover which keeps it from snagging on garments.
- There's a handy "active" light on the front so you're insured you're charging from a live receptacle.
- Power surge protection
- Three AC outlets, 2 USB ports

outdated and super-super-super weak; can't charge two USB devices at once (even overnight)
by Amazon Customer (1 out of 5 stars)
March 14, 2018

I got this assuming I'd be able to charge two USB devices at once. That's not the case. When I plug in both a smartphone and an (ancient) iPod touch, it SWITCHES power back and forth between the two devices, making them constantly beep as they toggle between "unplugged" and "charging." And yesterday in my hotel room when I tried to charge both my phone and battery pack overnight? It didn't fill EITHER device. Overnight!! My phone went from 15% up to 84% and my battery pack stayed at a miserable 25%. Once upon a time this was a great charger, but it can't keep up with today's devices.

Very handy for traveling!

This little thing is great! Use it when I travel and it condenses what needs to be packed! I can charge my phone, tablet and laptop in one spot and I know they are protected if there is a power surge. As a plus, it is big enough that my iPhone 6 can rest on it as it charges! The plug rotating also helps, but I found that the little white button that releases the turning feature is now stuck in the "released" setting.

Bad Design
by Michael Shamblin (1 out of 5 stars)
June 15, 2019

This product has a "neck" sticking out on the plug part that makes it stand-off from the wall, causing the whole unit to sag-downward and partially pull the plug out of the wall and no matter how many times you push it back in straight, it just sags again (see pic). This "neck" is (conveniently) pretty-much hidden in all the pic's in the ad, so beware . .

Also as you can see in the pic, whatever a.c. items you plug into it makes it a) sag worse, and b) stick-out from the wall several inches more, and tends to catch on things (walking by it, vacuum cleaner, etc.). Short return-window has already passed, so I guess this $20 paperweight's going in the trash . . what a waste, and a pisser . .

Avoid the 1 Amp variant of the "Belkin BZ103050-TVL"
by Sway L (1 out of 5 stars)
January 15, 2019

While the warranty on this item is surely compelling, it's almost unrealistic compared to the low price. I have purchased the apparent 1 AMP variant of this mini surge protector and was left with replacing it Day One and then requesting to return the replacement. I suspect there is just too much extra stock of the 1 Amp version, thus the reason it's still being sold and being coupled with other variants.

The first time: There is a button on the back of the item which allows you to rotate the prongs to a more suitable direction (convenient to your socket setup). Only problem was that the button was seemingly already pressed deep into the device. This lead me to believe that the item was likely, while purchased "New", was returned and resold. Still worked when plugged in, but the button left me cautious and I requested a replacement.

The replacement was in a much better visible condition, the button worked as such: (1) Press and hold the button, (2) rotate the prongs, and the (3) button resets when it "locks" into a position. Problem? Plugged it into a wall and it just buzzed/hummed. The light on it indicated that it was "protected" but the audible buzz/hum of the device left a strong distrust. Tried multiple outlets in multiple locations/buildings...and it was certainly persistent.

This is not the first time I purchased a Belkin item and probably not the last, but I was disappointed with having to try twice.

Outside the issue of the product itself, the packaging was pretty basic. I don't expect the most amazing packaging, but one thing did stand out (outside the warranty): It specifically mentioned that the included mini-USB cable can charge virtually any USB device "including Blackberry and Motorola RAZR phones". While not false...it's now 2019 and the RAZR was a highlight of 2005. Heck, the box is copyrighted 2009 and there is a 2nd Gen iPod Nano pictured on the box.

Given the thousands of other reviews, I doubt this will get any attention. In any case, trust that I'm not gambling on "third times a charm".

Nice idea, bad execution
by Geeman (2 out of 5 stars)
January 15, 2016

The quality of the product is very good. It is very well built and has a nice solid feel to it. However, they really needed to do some more product testing on this. The problem I have is with the location of the two USB ports. They are too low and close to the plugs below. If you have anything with a power block the size of the Apple 12 watt power block or larger you will have clearance issues between any cable plugged into the USB port and what is plugged into the outlet below it and in some cases you will only be able to use one or the other. That sort of defeats the purpose of being able to free up the plugs by being able to plug USB cables directly without the power block. As you can see from the picture I posted, you cannot use the right USB port at all as the device I have plugged in is partially covering the USB port (it is not even that big as you can see compared to the Apple power block) and the USB cable on the right is tightly butted up against the Apple power block. All Belkin has to do is move the USB ports up about 1/2 an inch and spread them out a little wider.

but I also haven't noticed a difference to the point I felt like I needed to time it
by Mark Cannon (5 out of 5 stars)

I would actually consider this a "travel" surge protector. I have seen other ones marketed as travel, but this one is actually compact comparatively speaking. It's still not small, but for 3 outlets and 2 USB ports it's not much larger than 2 USB AC adapters and it leaves outlets available for other devices. I have not timed how long it takes to charge my phone in comparison to its dedicated charger, but I also haven't noticed a difference to the point I felt like I needed to time it. All in all I think the this is a great little surge protector. I didn't dock any start because I really don't see how they could make it any smaller, I do like what it offers.

Sturdy, Compact Design, but USB's provide only 2.1 amps combined, not each!
by David L. (3 out of 5 stars)
February 17, 2017

Pros:
- compact and substantial (it's got some heft to it)
- swivel plug (use the button on the bottom)

Cons:
- the 2.1 amps is shared between both USB slots
- a tad pricey at $17.50, especially for only 2.1 amps combined

I would recommend this only if you're charging one device or typically don't have to worry about charge time if charging 2 devices. Combined 2.1 amps means that if you have more than one device charging you will have a slower charge rate and thus a longer charge time. This is why I gave it 3 stars. I don't know why Belkin (or anyone else) would even make them this way - without a full 2.1 amps PER PORT! for quick charging phones and tablets! Many makers and models have this shortcoming. However, in my case I didn't check the description carefully enough (or it's since been changed), and I only needed one port, but I still would have liked the extra capacity just in case.

IMPORTANT NOTE ON REVIEWS FOR THIS PRODUCT
by James Cantrell (5 out of 5 stars)
July 4, 2013

sorry for yelling, but i can see that the reviews for this product are often a bit confusing. Why? Because Amazon in their infinite wisdom has decided to COMBINE the reviews for two very different versions of one product.

I purchased, and quite love, the 1AMP/5 Watt version of this surge suppressor. Yes it's not quite "mini" and yes the button to turn the plug takes some force, but all in all this thing has served me and my girl all around the world, usually connected to some dubious wall plug and hanging off a two prong foreign current adapter. Yea yea, probably not safe so I don't recommend this, but we've been using two of these since Oct 2010 and they both work well for iphones (4s and 5) Kindle Fire, Google Nexus and blackberries.

Now for the important part of the review...there is a new version! It has 2.1AMP/10 Watt. Many of the reviews that complain this device is underpowered are referring to the 1AMP/5Watt version. If you are at all concerned with the power supply issues, just buy the newer version. It will handle almost anything.

Back to the foreign adapter thing, I've found that the plastic case that came with my iphone headphones (square thing) is just perfect for helping to balance this monster against the wall. Use it like you/instead of would the plastic piece that comes covering the prongs.

Swivel got stuck, third prong of the plug broke off
by Yuzhang Wu (1 out of 5 stars)
April 29, 2018

Supposedly this power strip is supposed to swivel, but while pressing down the swivel button all the way down, it only moved a centimeter. Trying a little more to rotate the plug into a non upside down position caused the third prong of the plug to come right off.

Belkin units typically are pretty good so I may have just got a defective unit, but that is what happened to my unit
