It works. I do vocal/singing exercises with this and very loud shouts are muffled to about the volume of a normal speaking voice. I used to be nervous about being too loud for the neighbors but this keeps things quiet enough. It's basically a long plastic tube that is folded in on itself like a small bowel intussusception to create an inner compartment that dissipates the sound. Your mouth goes on one end, sound comes out the other. I have nothing bad to say about it other than it's a bit expensive for what is essentially a piece of plastic that cost probably less than $1 to make. But I really needed something like this and it gets the job done.

Mother of 3

I am a mother of 3. As such, my cousin believed that this would be an excellent birthday gift for me on my birthday last year, when I was at the time pregnant with my third and raising two toddlers.

He couldn't have been more right.

Previously my kids were under the impression that I was yelling at them when they drew with sharpie on their sibling, tried to ride the dog like a horse, or "supermanned" off the back of the couch. Now, they think I am just calming speaking to them, despite the bulging blue vein sticking through on my forehead.

Really a great parental sanity-saver. Highly recommend. Happy screaming.

Screaming won't solve Flatness, but this Jar will help you cope.
by MJ (4 out of 5 stars)

So here is the deal: I am not Japanese, this Screaming Jar is- so I don't know whether to fault the Japanese for not building a Jar powerful enough to muffle my powerful American screams, or just come to grips with the fact I am so powerful that there is nothing that can silence me. It's the ol' unstoppable force meeting immovable object conundrum. That being said- this sits on my desk in my office and is used daily. I lined it with toilet paper to assist in the silencing properties. I deal with several people who I can describe with several words, but the best one to summarize their being is: Flat. No undulation, angle, depth, meaning, competence or purpose. Yet they have a job. They are post-tortoises: In a position which no one can discern how they got there (nor can they) and they have no means of doing anything, moving or affecting their own or anyone else's meaning in life. I cannot tell them they are incompetent, because in today's workplace- that is considered bullying. So I shall scream, like the Apache War cries of old- into this jar.

So 4-stars is where this rating falls. I don't get complaints at work, but I am pretty sure people know I am screaming into a jar.

I'm glad to have it

I use it to sing in my apartment basement, and it cuts down the loudness of my voice by at least half. Not a "whisper", but I'm glad to have it.
