Good product

My cat Anastasia is drinking more water because of the petsafe Drinkwell. When we had her last vet visit her creatin levels for the kidneys was slightly elevated. The vet asked me how much she drinks and because I had a water feeder for her I didn't know. That's when I decided to change her water feeder to a fountain. I don't buy anything without doing a lot of research so after reading on different review sites and reading reviews on Amazon I decided to get this one. I know that you have to take it apart every week to clean it but it's worth it if it helps to improve her kidney function. Also be careful when taking the motor apart to clean it. I was taking the cover off of it (it's a black box that is suction cupped to the bottom) and sliced my finger open a little. It's edges are sharp so use a towel to take that piece off. Unfortunately because of my cats age I found out that she has a growth on her thyroid and probably is starting to have renal failure so special food for urinary issues and pills for her thyroid. Surgery and or chemo is something that I can't afford. This fountain also has indicators printed on it for low and exact levels so you can monitor how much your pet or pets drink.

Best one I've tried
by ebbandflow (5 out of 5 stars)

Okay I waited 3 weeks to write this review. This is the fourth, yes the fourth Fountain I have tried for my finicky little cat in the past six months. I had to get him away from the habit of begging me to turn on the bathtub it was driving me crazy. He absolutely refuses to drink standing water. I tried the catit flower Fountain, a couple Drinkwell fountains, and some other brands. This is the only one he will drink from. You do not have to use a filter with this, of course I am using the one that it came with but I don't plan on investing in more. I use the smallest ring which gives like five little streams of water. All the other fountains did not do this they just had waterfalls or a heavy stream. The only imperfection is that not all five of the streams come out only three or four do but who cares. This thing is also very big. Very easy to clean which I do so only like once every 5 days. I hope the motor lasts.

Garfield approved! (WITH UPDATES)
by GreggG (5 out of 5 stars)

My name is Garfield (yes, that's my real human given name) and the fountain was ordered for me. It's amazing. The fountain arrived and I watched my human put it together. It didn't take long to do and he didn't even cuss. He originally set it up with the four outlet spout ring but I asked him to change it to the two outlet one.

The darned thing is the perfect size. It holds exactly one gallon US filled to the Max line.

The pump isn't noisy at all either. I can't even hear it. All you hear is the water falling into the bowl. The four outlet spout ring hardly made a noise at all but it got a little louder when he changed it to the two outlet one. It actually sounds quite soothing now.

So, I love my new fountain and I love playing in the water too. Don't worry. I haven't made a mess... yet.
***UPDATE***

The fountain was given a good cleaning for the first time today and it was EASY. Everything came apart and went back together as advertised although I needed a very thin blade screwdriver to pry the pump cover off. My fingernail (as suggested) just wouldn't do it. I did buy the suggested cleaning brush kit and while I used it, I didn't feel it was necessary. I think a few Q-tips would have done the job just fine.
***UPDATE TO THE UPDATE***

The fountain has been in use several months now and I still love it. My human used it with the filter that originally came with it then he decided he didn't need to use filters anymore and didn't order replacements. I'm the only cat using the fountain and as far as I know I'm not a big drooler BUT with no filter the fountain got slimy FAST. Thankfully, he finally ordered more filters and my fountain has been deslimed and he doesn't need to clean it as often. My advice? They're there for a reason so USE THE FILTER even though you may always use bottled spring water.

So far, so great!
by grumpbump (5 out of 5 stars)

Upgraded from the ceramic pagoda style fountain because it was so hard to keep clean and the pump was constantly clogging.

Setup for the 360 was very easy. I love that there are five different fountain tops for a single steam, double steam, etc. I tried the five stream first since I have seven cats. My kittens immediately took to it because it's exactly like how they drink from a running faucet. However, when I saw my Flower cat drinking from it, that was a surprise. Hers is the picture attached to the review. Even though I've had lots of fountains, this is the first one she used. I have two older cats and, so far, they are still using the stationary water bowls but I am not upset by this.

The other great thing is that this is the quietest fountain I have ever owned. It's basically silent. My husband is thrilled by this. We have always had to learn to adjust to the sounds of running water. But not with this one.

I am hoping the cleaning will be easy. The bowl itself is pretty big and there aren't as many corners, which should be helpful. It's plastic but I really don't mind that. The cats who drink from this don't drink directly from the bowl but rather the stream of water.

I am definitely pleased with this purchase

Pet Fountain made me realize how thirsty my cats must have been this whole time
by Jennifer A. Slater (5 out of 5 stars)
February 26, 2016

I never saw any of my 3 cats drinking water from the metal water bowl that sits next to their food bowl so I replaced it with a glass dish thinking the metal must be the problem. They wouldn't drink from the new bowl either, but when I repeatedly noticed them lapping up drops of water left in the sink and, unbelievably, drinking out of the toilet, I realized that they actually are thirsty.

I purchased the PetSafe water fountain because of it's good ratings and wasn't disappointed. It was easy to put together, doesn't splash onto the floor, and is very quiet. It's larger than I expected (holds a full gallon of water) but my cats drink from it constantly, which makes me realize how thirsty they must have been the whole time. I initially thought $40 was rather steep, but now feel it was completely worth it.

Great drinking fountain for dogs, cats and...
by jomamatoo (5 out of 5 stars)
August 27, 2016

I bought one of the first versions of this about 4-5 years ago and I'm still using it...with no problems. Please remember - this thing was assembled by human beings - so don't be afraid to take it apart to clean it. Also, according to the manufacturer - YOU DO NOT NEED THE FILTERS FOR THIS UNIT TO OPERATE.
1 - Therefore - I don't use the filters - they are expensive and seemed to clog up quickly with sludge. From a consumer's perspective - my two 18 year old cats have actually had to share their fountain with Great Danes, Bassett Hound and English Springer Spaniels and they all could care less if they are drinking filtered water.
2 - If you clean it often enough (and thoroughly - which is key) you get efficient at doing a thorough job and everyone is happy.
3 - Get a set of decent brushes (or assemble things that work for you) I recommend OXO Good Grips Bottle Washing Set available here on Amazon for about $10.00. You can use them on your sports bottle too if you want.
4 - Take the whole thing apart when you clean it - yes, all those little nooks and crannies are where all the bacteria and junk grow!!
5 - The black pump is held in place with suction cups - get it loose and clean it. It will easily go back in place. Spoiler alert: If you've owned one of these for awhile and haven't looked under the pump before - you're gonna be surprised/grossed out/gag when you finally do! Nasty things grow in the dark and that's where those "floaters" may have been living that you thought you'd washed out.

Some people complain about the pump making noise...mine has never made a sound and I take it out/off and bang it on the sink while I'm running water through it to get the gunk out of the little slots. Yet, the only sounds I've ever heard from our fountain is the running water or a family member yelling for one of my nephews to stop drinking out of it. ;o)

Points to Ponder: The first few times you disassemble it for cleaning, the parts are stiff (getting the cone to slide and unclick from the base was a huge pain for me until about the 3rd time) but once you start doing it more often, it all gets easier.

I can now take it apart, clean it and put it back together AND do a test run to make sure I don't have any "floaters" coming out before I put it back down for my "kids"

Great watering center for pets!
by Kat Ryker (5 out of 5 stars)
September 4, 2017

I purchased two of these from Amazon because I have four cats and they are incredibly rough with these fountains. One word of caution, when you unpack this fountain, make sure to hang onto the piece of foam which is wrapped around the motor assembly in the packaging. You WILL be putting it to use surrounding the housing with it BEFORE filling the fountain with water. This keeps the animal hair away from the housing. My first fountain did not have the instructions in the box, so I missed keeping that foam. Believe me it saves tons of cleaning time if you only have to rinse the foam off rather than scrub the housing.

Save your money, this is garbage
by loves to read (1 out of 5 stars)

This fountain worked great for about 10 days. We cleaned it as directed and made sure there was always enough water in the well. Our 2 dogs and 2 cats seemed to like using it. Then one day, nothing. No sounds, no motion, nothing. We read all the reviews and determined it was worth a try. Should have paid more attention to all the reviews that stated similar experiences to ours. Hope to return, won't be reordering from this company again.

Great for a plastic fountain
by NeonPinkSheep (5 out of 5 stars)
February 15, 2016

I've had this fountain for about 3 months now. I did a ton of research before buying it, read a lot of reviews, and in the end I just threw my hands in the air and picked one. I'm giving it 5 stars for now because I haven't had any trouble. For what it is- a PLASTIC fountain- it's been good. If I start having issues or the vet isn't happy, I'll update this review.

I used to use a plastic bowl for water, and my cat started getting acne on her chin, so I switched to a stainless steel bowl and everything was great. Now my other, elderly cat, isn't getting enough hydration, so my vet recommended a fountain and wet food. I really wanted to get a stainless steel fountain, so that the acne wouldn't become an issue again, but they were just out of my price range.

So far everything has been great. I have 4 cats, none of them have developed any acne (I WILL update my review if it becomes an issue.) To be completely honest, I haven't cleaned it yet (except when unboxing) except to pull tufts of cat fur out of the water occasionally. I'm a bad pet parent- I should clean it soon. But I have been keeping an eye on it, it hasn't clogged, there isn't any (visible) slime or scum. (See picture- note that I realize most scum would be underneath, please don't send me a bunch of comments about it.) The only problem I had was when I let the water get too low and there wasn't any water to cycle through it. But as long as you keep it above the 'minimum' line, it does just fine. (I sometimes go over the 'maximum' line with no trouble.)

I am currently using the filter that it came with. I recommend giving it a good thorough rinse before installing it, so that you don't get charcoal floating in it. I don't plan on getting a new filter, because I typically just boil water for tea, then leave the excess water to cool and pour it into the fountain.

Like I said- my stars are based on how happy I am with this specific product. I do think stainless steel or porcelain are better options, and if I'd bought one of them, I would probably hate this model. but I'm giving it 5 stars based on other plastic fountains I've used, because I think it's the only fair comparison. This one has been pretty superior to them. I am keeping a look out for problems though, like catne, as that will change my review.

Superior to the stainless steel model
by Reading Fan (5 out of 5 stars)
July 28, 2017

I received my fountain today and am seriously impressed with the design. In January 2015 I'd purchased the more expensive stainless steel model. (This, my friends, was a total waste of money. Do NOT think you are getting a better product for twice the cost because this is untrue).

I am going to breakdown WHY the less inexpensive plastic model is the best choice...

The individual components fit together snugly and are perfectly designed to do so.

There are no rubber gaskets as with the stainless steel model. Everything is hard plastic that perfectly lines up with hard plastic - no leaking.

There are very well designed features that are built into the components that slide into, or snap/click into place. There is no guessing...it fits only one way.

There are no pieces that are unstable, can slide or do not have a specific place into which they fit. Everything has its perfectly designed connection mechanism.

The pre-filter is so much larger/nicer than the stainless steel model and slides right into place.

The charcoal filter fits perfectly in the filter housing and has easily noticeable raised/concave strips that slide together perfectly. No gaskets.

The cord for the pump is ingeniously secured inside the main water bowl and underneath.

The pump itself has a designated area with sides that contain the motor securely. There is a brace-like feature that connects the intake tube to the motor. It cannot shift of slide as with the stainless steel model. This is going to save me a lot of headaches and frustration.

I realize my new fountain is just that.....brand new, pristinely clean and not at all worn. But I cannot stress enough how much better this unit is designed. Do not waste you money on the higher priced stainless steel model. If you keep this plastic model clean (using bottled water will help), I have no concerns about plastic being a pourous material that can hold bacteria. The plastic is a very hard, smooth material.

I am extremely impressed with this product and will definitely purchase this again when that becomes necessary.

I hope this helps you make an informed choice.
