Product Description

The FlexiFreeze Ice Vest is the lightest, thinnest, best performing, most cost effective cooling vest available today. With FlexiFreeze Freezable Ice Sheets integrated into its foundation, the patented FlexiFreeze Ice Vest harnesses the power of 96 pure water ice cubes into 3.5 pounds of body core cooling efficiency. FlexiFreeze Ice Sheets are made with pure water because it is far and away the most efficient cooling medium. Since water is a more efficient coolant than chemical based gel packs, and all other phase change materials, the FlexiFreeze Ice Vest can be lighter, thinner and more flexible than other vests while still providing more cooling power. The vest is constructed from neoprene to provide soft, flexible, lightweight insulation which shields the ice sheets from the ambient high temperatures and focuses its cooling power on the user. At less than 1" thick, the vest allows for maximum mobility and flexibility. Each vest is outfitted with three freezable, removable panels that are attached with Velcro for quick and easy replacement. Adjustable in four locations, the FlexiFreeze Ice Vest is designed to provide a snug fit everyone from XS to 6X. The vest and panels are machine washable with ice sheets removed. Designed for many uses, the FlexiFreeze Ice Vest is ideal for individuals who work in heat stress related occupations; who are heat sensitive due to Multiple Sclerosis or other medically related reasons or those who like to play where its hot. The vest is also great for everyday tasks on hot days such as gardening, mowing the lawn, walking the dog and more.

Love this but make sure you get extra inserts
by David Benjamin Lockwood (5 out of 5 stars)

Live in Florida and flip houses. No A/C most of the time. First time I used my vest it was 98degrees out and 78% humidity. The first set of inserts lasted 2 hours. I switched out with my second set and again lasted another 2 hours. I suffered through the work before but now am super happy during the day. I am thinking I may even buy a third set of inserts. Issues I thought about before I brought:
1. Is the vest flexible enough to move around in... lift stuff, have full motion of my arms. Simple answer is YES, you have full flex of your arms and torso.
2. Will the jacket be too heavy and create fatigue. Simple answer NO. The jacket is not heavy at all, no fatigue going up and down ladders as well as every other job on the site.
3. Will the jacket fit. Answer - it fits me - 5'8" medium build. My buddy put it on and he was 6'2" and he is twice the waist size and fits him
4. Will the vest be too cold when I first put it on and 'bite' my skin... not it actually does not. I am wearing a normal white hanes t-shirt with it on and it feels comfortable.

For the price and the relief it gives you during the work day... stop thinking about it and get it.

Cooling is actual water pack no gel / chem + velcro
by Nick (2 out of 5 stars)
October 1, 2015

Pros:

Does really help keep you cool when extreme heat condition.

I used this while wearing a mascot costume, it helped for about 30 minutes.

Size worked well, I am ~5',11"

Cons:

Lets start with the cooling method. Pod of water, not gel / chem but water. Several issue with this. One being it is hard to freeze water. The "recharge time" (time it take to make the packs frozen) is about in hour in a freezer. This is unlike other brands which use a gel / chem combo which can freeze in ice water and be recharged in as little as 20 minutes.

Ice pack are also bulky and heavy

Everything is held on via velcro, while the velcro does hold the pack in, They make placement hard and in my unit, it seem the placement was off as it slightly covered the velcro used to close the front of the vest. A zipper would have been much better.

Elastic straps are cheep. They really need to re-engineer this vest using something better to tighten it around your body.

Keeps Cool Under the Beesuit!
by Q (5 out of 5 stars)
January 27, 2018

I bought this vest for harvesting honey from beehives in the summer. I don't care how they advertise the "cool" bee suits, they almost make me pass out in the summer sun from overheating. Often I won't even wear a suit to harvest, but this year I had a couple of aggressive hives, and had to suit up. This cool vest is FANTASTIC. I've recommended it to my beekeeper friends, and use it often when I have to work out in the extreme heat. Not a long run time, but hey, I'm in central Mississippi. ANY cool time is GREAT work time! I can get a couple hours out of it when necessary.

Given me some of my life back!
by Skybrim (5 out of 5 stars)
August 13, 2013

I have MS, and I cannot tolerate the heat. I live in Arizona, so this presents a big problem. Over the last several summers, I've even suffered from depression when the months go by and I can't leave the house for any significant period. This vest has given me some of my life back. I have tried evaporative vests and bandanas in the past, but they seem to lose their efficacy after about 20 minutes. This vest stays cold for 1-2 hours depending on how warm it is outside. I purchased this in April and waited until August to write the review to be sure that it really is as great as I thought. When I have this vest on, I can run errands, go shopping, eat out in restaurants that are insufficiently air conditioned and basically feel awesome as long as the ice packs are cold.

I wish I could give this product 4.5 stars, because I'd absolutely purchase it again though it isn't perfect. I am a large person, and I have trouble making the vest connect via the velcro in the front. This means that I don't get all of the benefit of the ice because it's not pressed firmly against my body. The adjustable sides on the vest are great (and necessary for me), but the vest won't stay sealed.

Also, once the ice packs melt, you're basically wearing an insulating neoprene vest, so you're even hotter than you'd be if you didn't have it on. This may not seem like a big deal, but when you're outside and have to take the vest off and carry it around with you, it can be a pain. When it's really hot outside, this can be especially frustrating. For me, it goes from awesome to awful with no in between.

Finally, I have had to move to that point where health > vanity. I was self conscious wearing this vest at first, but have found that it improves my life so much that now I don't give a second thought to what random people may think when they see me in it.

Overall, I'd purchase this again and am so grateful to have it. It's improved my quality of life tremendously. I have spent over twice this amount for a vest that didn't stay cold beyond 20 minutes, so I find this to be a great value too. I'm back now to purchase the replacement ice packs for the vest so that when one set melts I can have access to a fresh set.

I recommend this vest without hesitation.

Great Cooling, Poor Durability
by Michael (2 out of 5 stars)

Great Cooling, Disappointing Construction

A set of ice panels lasts around an hour in upper 70-degree weather. Unfortunately the Velcro at the closure has come loose because of failed stitching and adhesive. The closure is only as wide as the Velcr4o strip, and there's no allowance for the thickness of the inserts making it hard to close. The vinyl liner to which the panels attach have rented along the stitching to the outer layer. I've worn the vest 2-3 times a week for two months out of the year for just shy of three years. Given that I mostly use it around the house and yard I'd expect it to last longer.

Not what i expected
by Amazon Customer (1 out of 5 stars)

Very Heavy. Not made for a cuvacious woman. Too much velcro that ruins the clothes underneath the vest. Not what i expected. This may better suit a man who works out in the heat for his job.and just wears this vest over old work clothes.

Is this bait and switch or were pieces not shipped??
by Al C. (1 out of 5 stars)
August 31, 2014

Description is misleading - the ice packs were not included with the vest. They are in the pictures....the description says additional units could be bought....and the words "not included" were not anywhere on the page. Either this is bait and switch, plain and simple, or this needs to be fixed immediately. At present, I'm very disappointed and will avoid "Maranda Enterprises" in the future.

Not as Cool as I had Hoped...
by AllenB (4 out of 5 stars)
March 1, 2016

Don't tell anybody, but I'm Santa Claus. Shhh! I've been Santa in our downtown for seven years now. Not to brag (okay, I'll brag a little) but I am an AWESOME Santa! I've always loved the Santa mythos and legend. I like what the Big Guy stands for when it comes to peace and goodwill in the world. Santa is a rockstar in kid-world and I make sure he delivers. My Santa is funny, uninhibited and aware of "kid stuff". I actually study up on the new toys, TV shows, videogames and movies that kids are watching/playing right before each season. That way, when a kid throws out some toy tie-in reference to a TV show, I know what's going on and can talk to them about it.

Word has spread. I'm even getting a rep as being the "real Santa"...which I'll take!! I've been getting a lot of calls for personal appearances. I go to schools, parties, classrooms, hospitals, malls...I've done in-home pet deliveries (puppies and kittens aren't delivered on the 24th...I need to make sure someone is home to take care of them!). I even do a radio show a couple of times a year (in full gear, of course...gotta be in character for the Facebook pix!). When I'm in the house on the square, I keep the temps in the 50s. I'm dressed for 40 below! Being in a room that's 55 degrees is very pleasant...if not a little warm.

Being in a room that is SEVENTY degrees is a nightmare! I never realized just how hot the suit was until I started spending more time inside. The merchant's group I do this for spent $800 on an incredible, professional suit...it's amazing...but it's also VERY hot! Add in the "fat-boy" belly, full beard, wig, fur-lined hat...the whole rig creates an outstanding look, but it is stifling!! After coming very close to passing out at a Hospital Bazaar fundraiser breakfast two years ago, I decided I needed some kind of personal cooling gear. My daughter happens to work as a mascot at her college. She works ball games and appearances in a full, "Disney-style" mascot costume. She's the one who put me onto the FlexiFreeze vest.

I bought the vest and an extra set of the inserts so I could always be frozen and ready-to-go. (the vest comes complete with one set of inserts).

I'm a big guy...I'm 6'5" and close to 300 lbs. Even at my fairly extreme size, fit was not a problem. Each of the panels is somewhat independent. They are tied together with a flexible cord that is very adjustable.

My problem is with the cooling power of the vest. I think I need more surface area. It feels GREAT for the first half hour or so in the suit, in a warm (72 degree) room. But the ice melts. Eventually, the vest is nothing but water at room temperature mounted to your body. I think it might even begin to act as an insulator once all of the cooling is gone.

I have a fairly high metabolism. I workout every day on an elliptical machine. I tend to run hot. I'm sure that's a challenge for the vest from the moment I put it on. I just heat it up far too quickly. Most of my events are about an hour. By the time I hit about half an hour inside, I'm back to the same feeling of "wow, I'm sweating and about to pass out" even when I'm wearing the FlexiFreeze Vest.

Yes, I have back up panels. But getting them installed is a problem. Once I'm "geared up", getting down to the vest is quite a production. I've never tried it, but I guess I could step out to a bathroom somewhere, take off the belt, coat, belly, etc. and install the backup set of panels.

The idea of this vest is great. The design and execution is great...I just don't get the cooling effect for as long as I need it. If there were some way for the panels to retain their cooling power longer, I would be a much stronger proponent of this vest.

I'm sure if you aren't a huge person...under a layer of very warm material...you're going to get more cooling for a longer period. I just don't.

Best of luck on your experience...and "ho-ho-ho"!!!

Expensive but works great
by S. Cannon (4 out of 5 stars)
August 7, 2018

I work at a treadmill desk so I am walking at about 2 mi/hr throughout the day and I generate a LOT of heat. This vest allows me to stay cool even when the thermostat is set for 78 degrees. Yes, it's expensive and yes, you can only count on it cooling you for 60-90 minutes. Rather than buying a set of replacement panels as I did for $30, buy a set of the cubes only and cut them up to fit in your vest. $20 gets you three sheets of the cubes https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001PTGO5A/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 which means three sets of replacement cubes. That gets me through most of the day. Make changing out the cubes easier by using scissors to round the edges of the sheets so that they slide in and out of the vest panels easier.

I gave four stars only because it probably only costs them $15 to make a vest that they sell for $100.

Velcro closure is a problem
by Kevin Murphy (3 out of 5 stars)
April 8, 2018

(The lack of five stars applies only to the Velcro closure option.)

For the money, this is a nice product.

There's one signification downside, however, to the Velcro closure: for the vest to work well, it really needs to be strapped on very tightly. This is difficult with the Velcro closure option - at least for me (and I'm thin). Unfortunately, it's too late for me to return the product, so I'm going to buy the version with the zipper closure, and keep the ice packs from my first purchase as reserves.
