Keeps Doggie Cool
by Gussie (5 out of 5 stars)

After our dog had a seizure from heat stroke, we knew we had to do something about it. So I did some research and came across this product. I read all the feedback and decided, this definitely was worth a try! We got it wet, wrung it out, and put it in a bowl inside the fridge for a while before putting it on him. We tried it out and it works great! Every other day before this he'd pant heavily and be lethargic all day in the heat. With this, he'd lay around, but clearly less laboring. Most of the time, not even panting. HUGE improvement! He's a big guy so we put it on him for walks, car rides, and other fun activities on land. At first he seemed embarrassed, but then realized that he felt great! The only annoying thing (which has nothing to do with the product) is that he'd wear this in the house and leave damp spots on the floor/furniture where he'd lay. But it's worth the price to have him comfortable. I wish I'd found this years ago!

Happier, cooler dog!
by Photobug (5 out of 5 stars)

After considering other products for my dog (cooling bed, cooling pads, etc.) I decided to go with Ruffwear's Cooling Vest. Although I live in rather mild weather, my dog is aging and wears out quickly when the heat rises or when the sun beams on his predominantly black coat. Boy, what a difference the cooling vest has made for my little guy! He doesn't pant as heavily and has more endurance on our walks. The most notable difference is no matter how much water he drank during our outings, he would always bolt straight for the water bowl when we returned home and drink the entire bowl. After our last few walks, he just enters and lays down to rest. My dog is more comfortable and drinks less which also means fewer trips outside to relieve himself.

As far as fit, I was concerned since he is toward the maximum measurements for the x-small but the fit is just fine with some room to spare. The neckline seemed a bit snug at first but my dog has no issue with it. The color is somewhere between powder blue and pale gray. Surprisingly after several trips to the beach, there has been no need to wash it yet. All in all this has been a great purchase for us, just be sure to take water with you, keep the vest wet and you'll have a happier dog.

Really works to keep my dog cool.
by Kindle Customer (5 out of 5 stars)

I love this cooler vest. I have a Boston Terrier and always worry he will get overheated on our boat. It works so much better than just wetting him down with water. He doesn't really like to be dipped in the lake to keep cool, so this cool vest is a great alternative. I originally ordered a medium, as he is a 32 pound Boston Terrier with a big chest and neck, but I returned it and got the small, which, according to the size chart, was the one I should have ordered from the beginning It is very adjustable (easy to adjust too) and fits perfectly. It stays cool for a long time on a 90 degree day outdoors. I still keep a careful eye on my dog, and constantly check to make sure the vest is still cooling him by checking underneath and feeling his skin and watching how much he pants. It is so easy for a dog to get overheated, especially one with a smushed face like a Boston or Pug or Bulldog, and it can be life threatening. The vest seems well made. It hasn't gotten dirty, so I don't know how well it cleans up. I would definitely recommend it.

Cool Comfort for my Shih Tzu
by Victoria H (5 out of 5 stars)
July 11, 2014

I have a black Shih Tzu. He is handicapped in the heat by his small snout, and I have had to carry him home more than once. Because he is black, when the sun is out, he can overheat even faster. Which is a shame since he really likes to walk. This coat lets him stay out much longer than he usually would. The coat is both reflective and, when soaked in water, it is evaporation. This helps keep him cooler on those hot summer afternoons.

Sizing for a Shih Tzu, which has a larger head than other dogs of its size, is a little problematic. Getting his head through the opening is a bit tight. The other body measurements are true to size. But other than that, it is perfect.

Worked great, Paisley didn't win, but worked great!
by Michael J. Anderson (5 out of 5 stars)

Our mini dachshund, Paisley, used this vest to stay cool prior to the Highway Weiner Nationals in Palo Alto, CA. All of the other dogs sat in the sun, panted and (somewhat) dehydrated. Our Paisley stayed cool and comfortable right up to the race time. Unfortunately, her little legs weren't quick enough to win her first heat, but she was a cool loser.

Very pleased with the quality/fit for my 7 pound Maltese
by Linda T. (5 out of 5 stars)

Very pleased with the quality/fit for my 7 pound Maltese. Used Ruffwear's site to determine size but ordered from Amazon. Vest slips over dog's head and then you slip arms threw and adjust straps to tighten vest around body. Straps easy to adjust and the way made do not have ability to come completely apart. Use common sense and never keep dog out in high heat for any length of time and be aware of overheating. Vest helps greatly to stay cool and comfortable.

Does the job!
by J. D. (5 out of 5 stars)

I was skeptical that this vest would actually keep my dog cool, and not just exacerbate the problem. However, it's very light weight, and once it's been wetted down, it stays very cool! She is a husky mix, so she has very long thick hair, but the hair underneath the best stays very cool. I would highly recommend this for any dog who needs a way to cool down outside!

Great dog cooler
by Jeff (5 out of 5 stars)

I take my dogs on hikes in the mountains. Sometimes there is no shade and my dogs have very short hair and consequently this causes them to overheat.

I soak the vest in water and then put it in a plastic bag in my pack. If the trail has no shade or the day is very hot, I strap a vest on them and they are good to go for a couple hours. This vest works very well to cool them down and keep them cool. I highly recommend this vest.

Worked great for our Mini-Schnauzer
by Sailgirl (5 out of 5 stars)
June 16, 2014

We have a 19 lb mini schnauzer and I purchased the x-small blue vest. It fits her girth well however is a little short on the back. It keeps her nice and cool during the hot summer days. We used it this weekend and she was not panting, stayed cool and damp due to the vest. We had to re-wet the vest after 2.5 hours in the sun. It keeps her back/tummy and chest damp. This is a great investment!

Needs a hat
by Miki (5 out of 5 stars)

This is one of products that I really love for my dogs! It's been about a month since we start using it. Washed it a couple of times and it came out clean. I put it in a laundry bag when washed it and air dried. He's black fur and was getting hot very fast, but with help of this cooling vest he doesn't even look for shade to rest like he used to! One thing that I don't like about it is that when I don't have an easy access to the water. But it still keeps the sunlight off his back, so it's a great product! Not only when we do outdoor activities, but I put it on him when we go on a road trip so he doesn't get hot from the sunlight in the car. I LOVE IT! Now I need a cooling HAT; his head gets hot, too! ;) I have to add one more thing; to wet it, you really need to soak it in the water. When you take a close look when you wetting it, you'll see the part is really wet and not so wet. Remember, the vest is three layers, so you need to make sure it's all wet.

AMAZING!!

I live in Savannah, GA. Today is low humidity (for the South) but 96 degrees. I have a 110lb black lab. I don't have to tell you that it's too hot for a human to be out there but even worse for a creature covered in black fur. When the weather gets like this, I have to start taking my boy for walks early in the morning and in the evening. ANYTIME I take him for a walk he always comes in and pants heavily for an hour or so. I couldn't wait to get this vest for him. I took him out for a half hour walk after soaking the vest in an ice chest that contained beverage leftovers from the 4th. I can not tell you how amazed I was when we walked into the house with virtually no panting at all! He usually just lays on the floor and pants HARD for a very long time. Not this time! He is walking around like his normal self! I LOVE THIS PRODUCT! Now to find something to keep his paws from burning on the asphalt.

Ruffwear Cooling Vest for Dogs
by J. Weseloh (5 out of 5 stars)
September 3, 2012

I live in an area where it's usually 65 degrees year-round. When I took my dog to a herding trial in an area that was 100 degrees, I purchased this vest for her. Between events, this vest kept her back/body cool without getting her wet. She didn't pant much and she seemed much happier than the last time we went to this event without a vest. It's easy to use and the dog didn't mind wearing it.

It's a dry heat!

The Swamp Cooler does a fine job of keeping our active Lab cool and frisky on hot Arizona desert trails. It would need rewetting after awhile. We are typically only out for an hour, and it is still damp at that point. It fits well and it quite adjustable. The Swamp Cooler will allow him to accompany us hiking until summer gets too warm for all of us!
