Product Description

Take the convenience of four lights in one with you with the Coleman Quad LED Lantern. Together the lantern shines 190 ultra-bright lumens for up to 75 hours. During an emergency, pop one of the four lights off the base for a personal flashlight. They recharge once they’re back on the base for hands-free light. The 24 LEDs last a lifetime, so they never need replacing and the lantern runs cool so it’s always safe to touch, even when it’s been on for hours.

Worth every penny

First off this thing is huge a lot bigger than I first thought. However it's full of cool functions. First you can take one or all the panel lights off the base to use separate. Second once that panel looses battery life hook it back on to the main body and it recharges itself. And last but not least probably the main reason your looking at this is its bright as hell. I've had it for about five or six months and in that time it's come in handy with the bad weather and some camping trips.

Great light, I can dispell some of the questions that you might have.

We bought this after seeing it in a new friend's camper. We just returned from a week long camping trip with four teenagers. The lantern was a blessing, as each teen got their own :piece" of the light for trips to the restrooms, tent light, reading or playing cards near the fire. Having an easy to see "Inventory" made sure that none of my new "toy" drifted away!. Each piece puts out a good amount of light and is easily reseated to the base piece for charging.

I have seen some misconceptions/requested changes about the lantern:
1. The base has its own light if all the :pieces are being detached for use. FALSE. Only the detachable pieces have lights.
2. The base should have a transformer to charge batteries that in turn charge the pieces. Hmmm, maybe, but that would drive up the cost considerably. If you want rechargeable in the base, as well, Buy rechargeable batteries and recharge away.
3. The lights don't turn on when you put them on the base. Even if on when the piece is attached to the base, it then takes on whatever state the base is in. If the lights are on, the light goes on, if the base is "off", once attached the piece goes off.

I would buy this one again, everyone loves it!

Large modular camping/emergency light, practical and very bright.

After hurricane Irma, I wanted a top quality flashlight/emergency light. It has not been tested under camping or emergency conditions, but looks good, has four detachable lanterns (components) as advertised which charge from the core of eight batteries at the center. They are bright and comfortable. One small remark, the handles are the only way to hang the lights. The old fashion hook style of camping lamps is better. Also, it is large, one should consider that, it is both a plus and a minus, depending on needs.

Coleman got the Camping Lantern right!

Coleman's always been a big name in camping gear, and we've had Coleman stuff my entire life, but this LED lantern is genius and I don't go out camping anymore. I just want a light for power outages and hurricane season (it got us through Harvey!)

Check out the product description for more detail, but my favorite feature is that this lantern is really 4 separate lights--you press a button and you can take your own piece and go off and read, or walk to the bathroom and the other parts stay and light the main unit.

It's very bright --bright enough even with a few parts out and about--- and each separate light gives more than enough light to read by or see around the house or yard.

Great design, wish we'd had this as kids on those camping trips.

Company does stand behind product. Don't buy this

I am a senior citizen and purchased this lantern on19/10/2016. We inspected it when it arrived and it's been on my closet shelf since then. Hurricane Irma may hit us so I asked my son check everything to make sure things were in working order. Only two lights can be removed from the lantern and work. My son asked why I bought the junk. When I purchased it it had a 5 star rating. I called the 1 800 835 3278 number in the warranty information and the message was that I should go to their website and read the Frequently Asked Questions section to find an answer to whatever my problem may be. Then I was told that they had encountered a problem and I needed to hang up and try again later. I have tried repeatedly to no avail. Unless you have money to throw away don't buy this. I paid 71.44 for this lantern and it does not work. That is a lot of money for me to lose.

Excellent lantern. I highly recommend it.

I absolutely love this lantern! This is my second one only because of a break up. I didn't end up with the first one. I knew I had to get the exact same one because it's so excellent. I had the first one for at least 5 years and used it frequently on camping trips and at home when the electric went out during storms. I love this design. The base takes several d batteries, while the other hand held lights use rechargeable batteries (which were included!). This is so that the hand held individual lights recharge while they're on the base. This has been invaluable while camping. The base can be setup at camp and stay on while you take one or multiple lights off to carry with you to light the way to your tent, bathroom, etc. The lights are nice and bright. I also love the option of taking one side of the lights off the base while having the base turned on so that the space is lit up while not shining in your face.

I don't have the first, earlier model lantern to physically compaired the two. From memory though, I think the base off the newer model is slightly different. This base you simply twist open to reveal the d battery compartment. This is an improvement from the older model, from what I remember. In the whole 5 years of using the first one, I think we replaced the d batteries only once.

This lantern has been and will be invaluable for years to come.

I will say that this is not a backpacking lantern. I think that is fairly obvious. The lantern is somewhat heavy with all the d batteries in it. The individual lights are nice and light though. This is great for car camping and at home.

I love this Lantern, after going through a storm in Jan. 2, 2017, I looked for products that would be needed if a serious storm came calling again. Well it did and we were without electricity for 4 days. The lantern puts out a lot of light and it has 4 panels that can be removed, so you could take one off and walk around with it. We would leave one of the panels burning on the lantern all night long so if we needed to get up there would be light. Now it takes 8 D batteries and the only ones I have used in it was the Duracell Pro that you can't find in the stores. After other family members also went without lights I have bought 3 of these to give as Christmas presents this year. Also Coleman is a good name. Worth the money to me. Would be great for camping.

Big Coleman Lantern
by Oxman (4 out of 5 stars)

Even without the batteries, this Lantern has some weight to it. With the batteries, you would not want to drop it on your big toe. The bottom piece was easy enough to unscrew. Batteries went in with ease. However, closing the bottom piece was a fun exercise in pushing down on the cap and twisting it far enough for it to catch to keep from popping back up like a Jack in the box. Once I managed to get it to screw on tight, and turned it on, I was pleased with the output of light. When I took one of panels off, the lights on the one panel went out, (I used the power button on the back side of the one panel to turn it back on), the remaining three panels remained lit. The one small issue with the unit I purchased was the level of the unit. The bottom pad has four small bumps which the unit rests on. Well, they are not quite even as the unit shimmies just a tad when you move it back-n-forth or when you walk by it, resting on a table, it will vibrate. Other than this, I like the lantern. Good to have when the power goes out as it had recently, which prompted me to look for a table light source, other than the flashlight I used.

outstanding lantern, started using this lantern when my son was a cub scout! The first set of batteries lasted for a year. No toys had to be hurt in the fulfillment of this lantern! When they no longer hold a charge it is telling you it is time to change the main batteries, but the lantern will continue to work for days after this! We were able to send one lantern with the boys in each tent, and recharge them the next day because you know they left the light on all night!

Great for family camping!

So far we've used this lantern on 3 trips. We like camping. The ability to be able to detach the sides and use them individually is awesome and saved us our last trip when we forgot other lanterns and flashlights. Both our kids a 5 and 7 year old were running around with one side each. Lots of other campers were interested in it and asking where we bought it.

I dI'd read many of the reviews and we'll here is what I have to say about some of the negative reviews. As for this thing catching fire, it has rechargeable batteries on each removable side, leaving it in a vehicle under extreme heat may cause it to explode or ignite. But the person does not state the weather conditions just that it was in the car. Even propane tanks, which are used for camping, warn against leaving them in direct sunlight and extreme heat.

So far my lantern all still works and if it did stop charging or working just after a couple of uses I'd contact the manufacturer, most are good about backing up their products.

Yes the compartment door for the batteries can be a bit tricky. I suggest placing it on a flat surface upside down when having to install/change the batteries. The battery cover just needs to be centered and turned to go on properly.

I'd highly recommend this lantern. The price has gone up since I bought it. Maybe just shop around to make sure you're getting the best price.
