Defective $400 chess set, shame, shame, shame

I bought this as a present for my fiance for his birthday. He had been insistently asking for his chess set and even though it was almost $400 I went ahead and bought it. To my disappointment, when he opened the box on his birthday, the chess board has a tower that was wobbly and a red "stone" that had unglued itself... How could a $400 dollar chess set have such irresponsible flaws? Mind you, everything else was in good conditions but my boyfriend does pay attention to delay and it made him sad (and made me furious) to see that his chess set wasn't in perfect conditions. He even asked me if it was used because he couldn't fantom that such an expensive chess could have this defects when new... If it wasn't because it's a huge box and it was his beloved birthday gift, I would have returned this item in a heartbeat. Shame on the person that shipped a defective $400 chess set.

This chess set is very well made.

This set is the deluxe version.

It is bigger, heavier and more detailed compared to the regular version. (see pictures)

The chess board frame is made of metal. The battle ground surface is plexi glass over printed "marble" patterns. This is the only place where the company went "cheap". The printed "marble" pattern could use an upgrade. But that's a minor issue and I'm willing to let that go.

Overall, a VERY satisfactory purchase!

Amazing chess set- and huge too

Love this, the peices look just like in the movie, it really is a set as beautiful as it is functional. The peices are weighty and everything has a solid, quality feel to it. The one carveat I have for buyers is the chessboard is considerably larger than the photos make it seem. This is both a good and bad thing as bigger is awesomer, but it was so big I could barely fit it on the small table I wanted to use (The legs of the board stick out from it a bit). Be sure to measure to make sure you have a place to put it!

Very Flimsy! Poor quality! Not worth $$!

I could not believe how cheap the quality of this chess board is after paying so much! The "ruby" pieces fell off before we opened the box in two spots. The chess board is flimsy plastic! The pieces are nice, the detail is nice...but you can get a real marble chess board for this price!

Great Chess Set could have been Super Great

To say that I am pleased with my Harry Potter Final Challenge Chess Set would be an under statement. This set iis more than I had hoped for. The detail is super. the weight of the pieces, just right. The board is ok. There could have been more put into it to really make it a world class set. But, I am not disappointed. I have some ideas to improve upon the board to give it even more class. All-in-all, I like it!! I give it five stars. A more super board could have earned it eight to ten stars.

Excellent. I bought this for my grown daughter's birthday. She has long-wanted a chess set, and she loves Harry Potter. Her 10- year old daughter asked, "Mom, is this the good one?", to which she replied, "Yes. This is the good one!" My son-in law even gave me a high-five. The quality and detail is excellent. I know it this game will get a lot of use!

This set came exactly as described and was very thrilled with the quality. The only complaint I had was that I ordered this as a gift and the box it was shipped in said the item on the side of the box so my husband was not surprised with the gift.

We play chess with this daily! Pieces are well weighted. Set is heavy! Very ornate. I'm not a HP fan but I love the game of chess. Bought this for my husband. He loves it!

I love this Harry Potter chess set. I saw other reviews complaining about how the gold paint was applied but my set is perfectly painted.

It's suppose to look vintage and used. Some of the pieces do have vunerable parts to them so you need to be careful on handling

them. This is not a toy for small children. The chess board that comes with it is perfect. Some of the reviews said how fragile it is. Well I only use it for the game of chess and it's strong for doing that but I doubt it would hold a potted plant without breaking so if you only use it for

holding the game pieces it will last a life time. The details are amazing. Each chess piece is made with multiple castings so you get

a lot of detail behind, let's say, the saddle of the knight. It took a long time to put each piece together. The pieces look

exactly like the larger pieces (only smaller) in the Harry Potter movie but the chess board does not. The pieces are in their packaging very tight so you need a lot of care getting them out. The pieces look to me like a blend of die casting and plastic and they all have a nice weight to them. One review said that the knight was too big for the game board but my knight fits perfectly on the game board that I got.
