perfect power inverter
by BobaFetch (4 out of 5 stars)
April 29, 2012

I came from a Duracell power inverter that had a long cord and looked like a stack of credit cards. I thought it was portable and easy to use. Before that, I used a much bigger inverter that stayed on the floor and looked like a small textbook.

It's so much easier to have a cup holder one. This thing fit into a 2012 escape cup holder without tipping over. It also fit perfectly into a MKV Jetta cup holder without a problem. It also didn't blow any fuses in either car.

I had a video camera plugged in, a Dell laptop, my ipod and cell phone charger, and a garmin gps all at the same time. The Duracell which was rated at 175W max had trouble being able to keep all of them going but this thing didn't miss a beat.

The fan IS a little loud (I prefer that to being too low and this thing overheating and unusable). I'd say it sounded like having your air blower being on at 75%. It wasn't too loud but you'd definitely notice if it turned on. Although the nice thing is that it occasionally turned off once the load drops.

Purchased this for Road Trip from DE to FL
by illestcrooks (5 out of 5 stars)
March 14, 2013

Excellent product, great quality and really works. Girlfriend and i planned a roadtrip from Delaware to Florida and we wanted to have something where we can power up some devices. We like to watch movies on our laptop while we drive down (sorry no DVD player in car. not that fancy lol) so once the battery drained on the laptop we decided to plug this bad boy in and connect our Laptop to it to charge, i was also using the car plug for my Radar detectar, which we then connected it to the power inverter. and also connected the iphone USB cable to it. the fan is a little noisy to keep the device cool but with the road noise and everything else you cant even tell its there unless you really pay attention to it. The power inverter never got hot or over heated. and we had it plugged in for about 17 hours in the car. the great thing about this device is that you can run the USB and car charger thing (whatever its called) with out having the fan running. in other words, it has an independent switch to power on and off the power inverter (house plug thing) sooo you can run the USB and the car charger port with out having the other thing on and the fan running.

i was extremely impressed by the design of it and thought it was neat that it fit right into the cup holder and it was in the way of the shifter and for the price it is really well made and solid. very content with purchase...also did i mention that girlfriend decided to plug in her curling iron and do her hair in the car because she got bored? lol

i would highly recomment this to anyone.

Broken DC outlet and LOUD!w
by John B. Fraser (1 out of 5 stars)
May 18, 2014

This thing is only 200W but is louder than a 15 year old 800watt unit I have. This wouldn't normally be a huge issue but the point of the device is to be in your cup holder which means you can't/shouldn't hide it under a seat.

Don't let them fool you. The entire thing is plastic and not metal. The exterior of mine seemed used and chipped up.

Also my DC outlet didn't work. THat was frustrating for a women at work who wanted to power her phone as well as a wireless hot spot but the DC outlet never worked.

I'll return it and see if they give me a new one that works but frankly, I'll go with a bigger floor model if indeed the noise is expected. Either that or I'll drop to 100-150 watt units that seem to have little or no fans.

Interferes with radio reception in my car
by mds (2 out of 5 stars)
March 5, 2016

All of the functions work on this device, however I am concerned that it may not meet UL standards for electromagnetic shielding. When I plug this in it interferes with radio reception. When I use the AC inverter function it interferes even more.

I am still using it because I really like the size and design but I often need to unplug it if a I am getting distortion from a radio station.

Loved the thing!

I have been 'stuck' waiting for folks many a time. My old Dell laptop battery life is under 45 minutes. In the past, when that ran out, I had to hunt around for a power outlet to continue working. Now, I just plug into my car, and continue on. It's great. Like others have said, the fan noise is there when using AC power, but that's a minor drawback (to me). The unit doesn't quite fit correctly in the drink cup of my Honda Civic, but some packing material will fit that bill well, just as long as I don't cover the vent holes. Best buy I could have made for $28.

Note*** After Hurricane Sandy hit and before I got my generator, I used this device with a battery on my dining room floor to get myself some CFL lights burning in the house. It worked. Not ideal due to all the extension cords, but I had lights until the car battery (a spare I have in the garage) ran out of juice.

About 6 or 8 months ago, the fan started making whining noises. It appeared to have worked itself out. Even during it's noisy phase, the unit worked admirably. The fan is only needed when the A/C inverter is being used, so it's not in use all that often.

November 7, 2014

Still using this unit. The fan whines at first most times, but after a minute or so, it spins freely and does cool the internal electronics sufficiently.

Unfortunately, this thing has more or less surrendered. I have to play with the power switch and smack it around a few times before either the red or green LED will illuminate. Even then, it will only fire off the rectifier circuit about one third of the time. Time to sent it to the landfill in the sky... The USB port still works fine, which is why I haven't chucked it yet. It's been a permanent fixture in my Honda for the entire time, plugged in always so I guess I can't complain since the car is used almost daily.

I'm very Happy with this Converter!
by R. Toro (5 out of 5 stars)
July 1, 2012

I debated for a long time whether to buy this converter, or a simpler one that was $10 cheaper. I finally chose this one, and I am very happy that I did!

The converter does have a fan, which is audible while the AC plugs are in use (with the On/Off switch turned to ON), but honestly, unless you drive a super quiet BMW, Mercedes, or Cadillac, you probably won't notice the fan. If you have the air conditioning and/or radio on, that will probably drown out the noise of the fan. Plus, if your car's cigarette lighter stays on after you turn off your car, you will appreciate the fan because it will remind you to turn off the converter to prevent your car's battery from draining.

The positioning of the plugs is very good, allowing enough space to use all of the outlets under most conditions.

I used this converter all weekend on a 1,000+ mile road trip and it worked great, powering all the devices that we needed while on the road (GPS, cell phones, laptops, radars, etc...)

I will update this review if I find anything negative to say about this converter, but I love it compared to the older one I have: Targus PAPWR005U Mobile Power Inverter

I like the Targus converter (and its cheaper) but obviously, the power rating is a lot lower on the Targus converter, and the DC plug is slanted towards the AC plug, which makes it very difficult to use both plugs at the same time (although it is possible).

So in comparison to the Targus (and after a lot of browsing prior to purchase) I am very happy with this Rally converter, and I highly recommend it.

Power Up!
by Rocks In Motion (5 out of 5 stars)
June 11, 2015

I have not had it long enough, but so far I like it. It is a little noisy (low frequency of fan) but it tells me it is on so I don't mind it and it is as if the AC was on at high ... It fits on a double cup holder of my acura better than it fits on my Cooper since the cord is a little low for the depth of the pocket for the cup holder. It tends to bend the cord a little and over time I am not sure if this might damage the conductors. I had two I phone 6 with the AC plug on the device, a black berry 9650 and a small Plantronics ear piece charging at the same time. The IPhone plugs were a little hot but the device was always cool and I had no issues with the power. So far so good. I like it due to its high output , lots of options for the o/p s and ease to connect. To store away it fits right in the glove compartment. I like the On off button. It prevents over use of the internal components and short life due to heat while not operational.

Odd design and cheap
by Shootertec (2 out of 5 stars)
April 9, 2013

I've had this for 6 months now and it's okay. It works for powering a laptop or charging camera batteries, but it can't handle much more than that. The design is top heavy and unless your cup holder is a perfect fit, the inverter wants to tip over. The little plastic plug covers are very cheap with sharp edges and have a poor fit. Typically the covers remain open because they don't flex enough to stay in place or they simply pop open due to such a poor fit. The USB port cover came off and never did fit, even from day one.

When switched on, the unit is fairly loud if you are in a quite environment. However, while driving down the road, listening to music, and running the A/C, the noise from the inverter is noticeable but negligible. After operating the unit for thirty minutes or so, you will notice signification heat from the vent port. As a result, I will turn mine off to cool down if I'm running it for a couple hours to charge a laptop.

One thing that I do like is the USB port is a passive pass thru port even with the unit turned off. So in my Ford truck with sync, when the USB port shuts down when the truck is turned off, I can still charge my phone with this unit without having to turn on the inverter.

Amazing product. Perfect for charging all your devices. Great for truckers, haulers, and roadtripper
by skwirly88 (5 out of 5 stars)
May 3, 2018

This is one of the best things I have ever purchased. I got it to use on road trips, so i could charge computers and DVD players to keep my wife and son busy. This device allows you to keep your 12v plug and plug in 2 AC plugs as well as a USB device all while sitting in a cup holder spot. It came with an extra fuse but I never had to use it. This thing has helped me out on three or four cross country road trips. It did break about 2 years ago when it got dropped from my truck, so I bought a second one because of how good this was and how useful it had been.

Inverter burned out after a few uses
by William P Sandifer Jr (2 out of 5 stars)
March 28, 2019

Worked okay until warranty had ended. Inverter smoked and burned out yesterday, overload circuit lit on a moderate (below rated capacity) AC load (air mattress pump). The onboard fuse failed to protect, and it blew the 20A fuse in my van. With the inverter toast, the remaining USB and 12V functions no longer work. Inverter had been used only half a dozen times.
