WOW!!! What a RELIEF!!!
by Rick (5 out of 5 stars)
October 23, 2013

It's great to see products out there that are helpful to people at a reasonable cost. My sauna arrived about 5 days ago, way earlier than it was supposed to come. I read the instructions first to make sure I wouldn't blow anything up, then proceeded to set-up the sauna. It took 2 minutes and 32 seconds exactly....taking my time....it wasn't an Olympic event so I wasn't out to set any records.

I plugged the sauna in, picked up the control box and tested the controls (you must PRESS the controls). The control box is pretty straight-forward and intuitive. It couldn't be any simpler. There are controls for power, temperature, time, footpad, then once you have input the information you hit the start button.

I decided to take it slow at first....no sense in getting ahead of myself....and kept the temp setting on 130deg which is the minimum temp. That wasn't doing the trick so I figured I'd go for broke and cranked it up all the way to 150 degrees. Aaaahh, I got some RESULTS out of THAT temperature setting. I felt an instant increase in heat, but was kinda doubtful that this little sauna could put out any REAL heat. Within 3 minutes sweat was CASCADING down my body like a waterfall. YES, I hit the JACKPOT!!! I haven't sweated THAT much since I was a kid running on the cross-country team in High School.

I pretty much knew I was going to have to go with the highest setting because I have a high heat tolerance. Had no problems with the chair, I am 6'3" 220lb and I didn't break it. I placed two towels on the chair, one on the back and one on the seat as per other reviewers' instructions and one beach towel on the floor. Glad I did for they were SOAKED after my session was over and the sweat was in the TOWELS and not the SAUNA! You might want to keep your arms under control and not touch the carbon panels for they are...I'm sure...150deg just like the heat they are putting out. My right elbow touched one and I didn't touch it again :)

Maybe part of the reason the 130deg setting didn't seem to do much was because I had the armholes open and was reading a book. The sauna works so well I could feel heat coming out of those armholes onto my face so I decided to zip them up, seal my neck with the Velcro strap and get the FULL BLOWN EFFECT of the 150 DEGREE setting! Great choice. I spent 15 minutes in the sauna on the 130deg setting and 30 minutes on the 150deg setting.

After I completed my 30 minutes of profuse sweating at 150deg I stepped out and felt totally REFRESHED!!! It was uncanny. It felt like my skin was saying "Thanks a LOT, I am better now." There was something under my skin that felt...lighter.....empty...of crud. I picked up the soaked towels and smelled them. I read on a FIR sauna information site online that you will detox all sorts of stuff which you will smell.... Well I never smelled anything while in the sauna, but smelled the towels after my session and they smelled of AMMONIA! Now I don't use ammonia and don't have it my home. I washed those towels just two days ago so they were perfectly clean. Evidently that ammonia was travelling in my bloodstream but the sweating got it OUT! Ammonia is a byproduct of protein synthesis in the digestion process and I had just eaten an egg meal before my session. I got a slight headache an hour or so after my session which was a good thing. Dieoff symptoms(healing crisis symptoms)are evidence of effective detoxing. Drank a cup of coffee and the headache is gone. The skin, the largest organ in the human body, when it senses the liver is overburdened will take up some slack and help detoxify the human body, but if we are not sweating the liver is taxed sometimes beyond it's capabilities which results in a toxic body. It makes sense to get the LARGEST organ...our skin....to help out and I read that most heavy metals come out only through sweating so we need to SWEAT!

While online researching FIR saunas I noticed spas were offering sessions for $50 bucks a pop. After 3 more sessions my sauna will pay for itself. I couldn't have made a better choice to help in my goal of personal detoxification and am completely satisfied with this little sauna.

This sauna made in China is a Godsend for those wanting to detoxify their body.

Do yourself a favor and buy this sauna....For Your Health!

Does as promised, which is nice
by MJM (5 out of 5 stars)

I just got this product because it was reccomended to me to utilize a FIR sauna as part of a detox/pain relief program. I knew that if I had to drive to a spa once or twice a week, I would never really go. I found this product, and for less than the cost of 9 spa sessions, I get to use it whenever works for me, YAY. Another plus is that I am heat sensitive, and by having my head out in the cool air, I can tolerate this a lot longer than I can an enclosed sauna.

I let it air out in direct sunlight for about 26 hours (obviously some of that was night time) as soon as I received it, and noticed no chemical odor upon first use (and I am chemically sensitive). I didn't even risk the chair, instead using a child-sized chair I already had. I let the unit pre-heat for about 8 minutes, and when I got in it was very warm already, and I was sweating within 5 minutes. It came with a "sponge" for inside the bottom of the unit, but I can't imagine cleaning that, so I put that under the spa for extra padding and fold a towel for inside under the chair. the hand holes are places in an awkward place, and I really don't see myself reading while using the unit with unsupported elbows, but its nice to have the option to grab a drink of water or check to see how much time is left.

My unit came with a very simple control. One display, and 3 lights to tell you what mode you are in. Just turn on, press function, set the desired temp, press function again, set the desired time, and function once more will take you to the display of the current temp.

My unit came with plastic support poles, not wood, though I don't mind the difference. I lock the bottom pole in place and leave the top one in its storage position. This gives the front a nice slope and I don't feel like I am in a box, and its easier to reach the remote pocket.

Inside are 3 FIR panels (back and each side), so you have to be careful not to touch the sides or you will get burnt. There is also a foot warming pad, which I find pleasant for the first 10 minutes or so, but then it gets too hot. I just use my feet to flip it up against the front of the unit, and all is good. My unit did not come with the stated foot massager, but maybe if you were using one over the foot pad, it wouldn't be as hot.

I have noticed that a lot of people have written that it is small. That is true, but it is flexible enough to fit a variety of heights, I think. I would guess that it will comfortably fit anyone up to 5'9 or 5'10, depending on the size of chair you use. If you are particularly overweight there might be a problem fitting, but that is why they also make the XL version.

Overall I am very happy with this purchase, and hope that FIR therapy is as beneficial as they claim it is.

Good portable sauna, flimsy dangerous chair
by sonicseer (4 out of 5 stars)
December 17, 2011

You love the gym sauna and desperately want one for your home but the high price for these installed units leaves you cold. You've research FAR infrared saunas and determined that it's safe technology. You arrive here because you sorted the search results by price and now you're wondering if this thing is a piece of junk. Should you buy it? I can answer that with a loud confident YES--with some reservations.

Pros: this unit WILL get you nice and toasty. I cover the neck hole, preheat the unit for about ten minutes at 145 degrees, jump in and minutes later the sweat is literally rolling off. Because your head is outside of the heat zone (but still able to sweat) you'll have a more comfortable experience because you're not breathing in hot air during the session. I put on some relaxing music, sit back in my padded chair and 30 minutes later exit to my shower totally drenched in sweat. This portable sauna works exactly as advertised.

Cons: very important--heed the other reviewers' advice and DO NOT USE THE INCLUDED CHAIR! Don't even take a chance and just recycle it immediately. I made the mistake of using it (it seemed sturdy enough and thought I'd be okay at my weight of 160 lbs) and sure enough, just like everybody warned, it collapsed on the third day. This caused the entire unit to roll backwards and land with my bare back awkwardly pressed and immobile against the very hot back heating element for about five seconds causing a severe burn. Avoid this dangerous situation and plan ahead. The floor-to-neckhole distance is 38-40 inches (variance based on some fabric stretching) so buy a chair that puts you in a comfortable position based on this measurement relative to your height, I recommend a padded chair for best comfort.

Quality: the side panels seem to be constructed of some type of heavy cardboard, the aforementioned backwards flip caused some corner bending of this material. The long term durability of the sides is questionable if you move it around on a regular basis (very lightweight and easy to move btw) but should be okay if you pick a permanent location. It seems that most of the purchase cost is likely due to the panel technology on the three interior walls because the unit materials are basically just high density cardboard wrapped in silver cotton cloth. I was not surprised by this considering the price point, you get what you pay for but I'm confident the product will last for years to come.

Ease of use: the unit ships as one piece, no assembly required. Three steps to sauna nirvana--Step 1: plug it into a standard three prong outlet, Step 2: set your temperature and time with the easy to use control box, Step 3: enjoy.

Overall I am very pleased with this purchase. Don't bother with the more expensive portable units because they use the same technology and even seem to share the same appearance and materials. I chose free shipping and the unit arrived in a week. This economical home sauna solution is a fantastic healthy relaxing way to start (and end) your day, I love this sauna and use it every day.

very uncomfortable
by Virgnia M. (1 out of 5 stars)
February 22, 2014

This thing heats your upper body only, your legs don't get any heat at all. The heaters are located in the upper back and sides. It does get very hot, and sweat will run down your body, you need to put a towel on the seat and floor. The seat feels really uncomfortable and you sort of sink, thus you are seating in a wield position... not good if you suffer from lower back pain. I got rid of the seat and put a small bench instead. The foot pad gets too hot and it just burn you feet! useless. If you are bigger than 160 lbs... don't buy it, as you will be burned by touching the heaters. It is not relaxing, as you have to seat for a long period of time (45 min to 1hr to get a good sweat) in one position. You are better off taking a hot bath if you have a bathtub.

Great idea,dangerous wiring
by Deedee (2 out of 5 stars)
June 26, 2012

I absolutely loved the sauna,I knew it wouldn't be ultra hardcore and sturdy, but I never expected it to be improperly wired.I heard a loud pop upon the first time plugging it in,but shrugged it off, until the unit stopped functioning after only a few days.I removed the cover from the power box and checked all the connections.Initially, they looked fine,so I slightly manipulated the wires at their connection points until the power cord connection sparked and the unit briefly came back on.Thinking it was just loose,I tightened it down, but it wouldn't remain on.I thought it may need to have a better connection,so I removed the wire from their connectors to expose more of the copper and what remained of the copper on the connection was actually charred powder! and the plastic on the panel was also obviously burned and partially melted. That's when I noticed that the ground portion of the three wires had been cut back to the insulation. In other words, removed from the equation. This sauna needs a three prong plug and was basically gerry rigged and dangerously so ,as was evident by the melted and charred remains of the cord and it's connection point.I still like the unit,so I'm having an electrician repair it,but I'd buy only from the states. This definitely could have caused a fire and freaks me out still.

A Suprisingly High Quality Effective Unit, Great Price
by shsfaithful (5 out of 5 stars)
January 5, 2014

My review is likely going to echo many other reviews, I am not sure how anyone's cannot. I am pleasantly suprised by the quality, effectiveness and ease of this far infrared sauna. They hit a home run with the design especially when you factor in the price, I have found it very effective and comfortable.

The cloth/fabric chair was nice surprise, I was not expecting. Sitting down in this unit is much more relaxing than you would think from the pictures. This unit works just like the very high end far infrared saunas I have visited, that being, it does take awhile to begin sweating intensely (as compared to near infrared) due to the penetration time of the far infrared rays, but once it starts, WOW, I sweat everywhere, including my back even though sitting on the chair with the fabric back --- thus it builds my confidence that the unit is delivering rays just like more expensive permananet units.

Shipping was also a surprise, I was quite pleased with how fast the unit was shipped by the supplier after placing my order, you never know with a larger item like this. I have only had teh unit for a relatively short time, so I cannot attest to the long-term durability yet, but seems it will be just fine if you are not moving it every day. Overall a great purchase and expereince, and my kudos to the designer and supplier for the qulaity and effectiveness for the price. I am hoping thid product will really help my health condition short and long-term, thanks to Amazon for making this available.

Incredible value on portable FIR sauna
by T. Rathbone (5 out of 5 stars)
April 12, 2012

I bought this portable far infrared sauna for 185 plus shipping and I couldn't be any happier with it! I work in a massage and wellness center and have used the very expensive standing wooden ones and this one holds its own on heat. NOTE: This no longer comes with the chair for safety reasons and it does now state that on the product description on amazon. *as least as of 4/10/12.

When folded, this sauna is very compact and has a strap that makes it very easy to move and it is surprisingly light. It took me less than 5 minutes to unfold it and be ready to go. To operate, you simply plug it in, press power on the "remote" choose your temperature levels in increments of 1 - 6 and then choose your time in 5 minute increments 5 - 40. This sauna only takes 5 minutes to heat up, which is amazing since the big one at work would take 1/2 hour. I set mine for the 40 minutes on 6.. give it 4 or 10 to heat up and then get in. I lay a towel on the floor and I have sat with my legs crossed and a towel over the head hole while doing some kundalini yoga breathing and warmup and I have also put a wooden foot stool in there to sit on with my head poked out. I have to say I like my head out better. Both ways, I was DRIPPING sweat within 17 minutes! There are also slots for your arms to come out if you want to do that. They are zippered otherwise. Be sure to have a hand towel to unzip while you are in there as the zippers get hot. Also the heat panels are on the back and on the 2 sides and they do get very hot so be careful not to touch them.

I use this for detox and the many benefits of FIR. My husband has never liked breathing the dry air in a regular FIR sauna, but loves the idea of breaking a great sweat before he does his power walking. The head opening makes it much more appealing to him.

I am so happy with this purchase, its ridiculous. Thank you for making this therapy so affordable! *big smile*

Per Doctor - after I got that Sinus Bronchitis Flu hitting the US this year
by Amazon Customer (5 out of 5 stars)
February 14, 2014

I had 2 Z-packs of antibiotics; then 1 course of Leviquin. that got the cough to go away for a few weeks, but it returned.

i got that mystery bug circulating across the country. my primary care doctor wore a mask when examining me! he said to get this.

IT WORKED.

i felt silly getting this, but he said he had a deep heat infrared sauna in his basement and it would provide deep heat into the lungs and dry up the cough.

i was so afraid nothing would help and i would be in the hospital with pneumonia. but this baby did the trick. i was amazed what came with this thing. a chair, a heated foot pad, it's very cool and lightweight. i can take it places, portable. love it.

you will want to crank it up to 150 for 10 min to get it hot. i put towels under the chair, on the back of the chair, and on the seat of the chair, as well as around my neck - because YOU WILL SWEAT ALOT. detox is good.

feel great when getting out, take a nice shower - sleep well. very healthy addition to a regimen.

get it.

My only complaint is it is small, for me, I fit but I am touching the sides in to many places, I am 5'6" 160 lb, and would like to have a little more room. It has made a big difference in my pain level from Fibromyalgia, I am now sleeping through the night after using it before bedtime, sauna, shower, restful sleep. This product was recommended to me by my doctor. Thank you Dr E.

Nice Unit
by Metajohn (5 out of 5 stars)
November 4, 2011

Thanks to others who have given reviews: they were very helpful. Just finished my fourth session and look forward to more. I am 5'11", 170 lbs. and am quite comfortable in the sauna. In fact, I can bend over and seal the head opening for a few minutes during the session. The chair is another issue. If I weighed more I would not use the chair. I have learned to wrap several layers of towel around the top rung to keep from burning my back. I also cover the floor with a towel including the heated foot pad which is useful but gets a bit too hot. Recommend keeping a small towel in the unit during the session to wipe off sweat. I read somewhere moisture impedes infrared effectivness. "Instruction Manual" is interesting. Fortunately I was able to figure it all out by myself. Still don't know to interpret "work" on the control module. And yes, you can read during the session, but why? Use a low light, breathe deeply and just relaxxxxxxxx
