Sensor Scoreboard fix!
by Porcupine (5 out of 5 stars)
June 19, 2016

So i read the reviews and yes, the one thing that should work perfect is the scoring. It did not at all for me. Right out of the box the sensor was driving me crazy. If the ball rolled around in the hoop it would count up to 3-4 scores. If the ball bounced around the hoop it would count. Many balls would not register at all. I tinkered with the sensor sensitivity with no luck. I was thinking I paid 200 for a worthless game. So now I was determined to fix this for my kids.

Short and sweet fix instructions (see pics):
-Drill 5/8" hole just under the hoop and move the lower sensor down. Make the hole a touch bigger by moving a drill bit around the inside.
-disconnect the net on the back side of the rim and double up the front net. So no net interference at all and no balls will get stuck!

Besides the sensor issue, the built quality is strong and was never in question.

With the sensor position fix it works perfectly every shot. It's a 5 star now.

Update: after 4 months, everything works great with the sensor position change.

Quality Item
by Allen Hurst (5 out of 5 stars)

The biggest question you have to answer is if the cost is worth it. You can find indoor basketball games at Sams Club, Costco or WalMart for $100.

You can also pay five times this amount for a Rhino Sports which uses metal side grates instead of nylon netting.

I actually bought a $100 kit before buying this item.

There is no question the quality here is top notch.

One main advantage to the Lifetime unit is the electronic scoreboard is AC power.

Most others on the market, including more expensive ones, use batteries.

Do be aware that you will need to assemble and use this near a wall outlet.

Once assembled, the goals are rigid and sturdy and the unit doesn't wobble.

I am pleased with this purchase.

I was meticulous with assembly and had no issues with the scoreboard. Many reviewers said the electronic scoring was hit and miss.

If you are careful with insuring the sensors are flush, and place the main unit correctly with black and brown wires, you should have no issue.

Also, some mentioned balls did not stay inflated, but I've had no issues with the basketballs.

I assembled this alone and it took about 4 hours, but I worked at a deliberate and causal pace.

With two people, it should be quick and easy.

The pieces are all marked with identifiers.

The nuts and bolts as well.

The assembly instructions are clear - not the best I have seen, but adequate.

Do not bother with the included cheap wrench- use your own socket wrench and assembly will go much faster.

There are only a few confusing moments during install, such as how the nylon return sleeve should be laid out.

My kids and I have already played on this many times and sometimes roughly and the unit has been solid.

I would recommend this to anyone with the room and a high ceiling.

I will update as needed if I encounter any issues.

Update 11-19-12 ---

One month later and absolutely no issues with the BB goal. Our teenage daughters had a Halloween party for 30+ 7th and 8th graders. 4 hours of abuse from teenage boys and the BB goal is still performing exceptionally. In my opinion, if you assemble carefully and torque the nuts and screws for the scoring unit, you will have no issues.

Update 12-01-12

I have had one basketball lose some air. The other 6 are fine.

Update 12-12-16 ----

Still going strong, but basketballs do need to be aired up on a consistent basis. That is a minor issue

Best purchase we have made!
by Jen Neel (5 out of 5 stars)

I have read so many reviews on multiple double shot arcade games and almost all of the reviews of this particular one. I wanted a high quality product that wasn't going to go flimsy on me. After reading all of the reviews and getting opinions from multiple owners, we bought this one. It is the best purchase we have made!!! It is SO sturdy. Amazing quality with all of the parts. There were no flimsy pieces or cheap looking pieces. It actually is a beautiful piece because of the quality. It took about two and a half hours for my husband and I to put together. But it wasn't hard. We purchased it during Thanksgiving break and it has been played on everyday. My husband and nephew were competing to see who could get the highest score and my husband won at 204 points in one round! This thing has been PLAYED on. Many, many competitions and so much fun. It has held up so well!! It is in the corner of a room and sits in front of our baseboards. Since our baseboards are thicker, it doesn't hit against the walls at all and make holes from the screws. Which I have seen in other homes. My family has had so much fun playing against each other and bringing friends over to play. I can't say enough good about the quality of this product. It is built to last!

Great set up, solid, and lots of fun....
by SteveO (5 out of 5 stars)

The family and I really enjoy this hoops set...It was a little challenging putting together though...I had to keep rechecking parts and pieces with the blister pack hardware to ensure that I was using the right bolts, nuts, etc...but I've conquered much harder projects. Any time there are tools included with a set, I put those aside immediately and break out the tool box...makes things much easier. As far as game play is concerned, it's just plain ole fun. My 9 year old and my 12 year old, me and the wife enjoy the competition and play time that this has created. We recently got an air hockey table too, and both kids agree that the basketball hoops game is much more fun than air hockey. They've included the perfect amount of balls for two people to play competitively. We don't use the scoring mechanism a whole lot because we enjoy just throwing balls up. I did notice that there were dials on the back of the sensors...perhaps those are for sensitivity? I couldn't find a reference to them in the instruction manual...but doesn't really matter to me as again, we don't use the scoring mechanism. I did follow the advice of a previous reviewer, and connected the rear part of the net to the front part of the rim in anticipation of the net confusing the scoring mechanism, but it didn't really matter since we don't use it anyways...over all, I would buy this again in a heartbeat, and now all the neighborhood kids want to come over to our house to play.

total disappointment!

We played at our friends with something similar and we had a lot of fun so we decided to buy, based on reviews we chose this, but we are extremely disappointed! the scoring system is not working properly, you get 10 balls in to count one to two and sometimes counts balls that are not in. On the instructions it said to adjust on the backside the and test it until it shows 11, I did that but still didn't work properly. the other problem I don't know why they programmed it like this, you have rounds, you have to score > 30 to move to next round then score > 60 to move to third, why didn't they leave an option just for simple competition (like counting who score more in a certain time)? another negative thing you can't control it from the front, every time you need to start a new round you have to go to the back and press the button, My friend's one which was cheaper and I don't know what brand, you just push a button in from of you and it takes you to a new round!! after spending hours to assemble it I am going now to disassemble it and return it.

THE ONLY BASKETBALL GAME TO GET
by S. Rainey (5 out of 5 stars)
May 8, 2017

Purchased a basketball shooting game from Costco for around the same price but this one blows that one out of the water!!!!

This one is very sturdy. Taller than most.

EASY to play and use!!

Other ones have different games, selections, players qanitys and you have to push buttons in order to play. Annoying for kids that just want to shoot.

This one, throw a basketball in it to start the game.

Automatically does 2 players, Level one you have 60 sec to score so many points level 2 additional 15 sec and every basket is 3 points, level 3 ........

Great game, The kind of game you get when you go to an arcade place. That is exactly what i was looking for.

Not one i have to make selections and push buttons which ends up breaking anyways!

BEST BUILT GAME EVER !!!
by Neil Bolton (5 out of 5 stars)
June 4, 2018

Best Game Ever! Our church bought the first one 4 years ago. It saw heavy use by hundreds of children and adults EVERY week! The only reason we just bought a new one is that the older kids started hanging on the net supports bending the heavy tubes. These will last forever if you treat them right. One scoring sensor went bad after 3 years but one call to Lifetime and they sent a brand new replacement for free! These are being used by the children's department of a very large church here in Grass Valley, Ca.. Girls absolutely love this game and so do their parents!!!!

Sturdy and sounds are great
by Jody Windland (5 out of 5 stars)

So far, everybody is just loving this., No issues at all. Took about 4 hours to setup alone. Would be much faster with two people. Sturdy and sounds are great. Love that there is a plug and not batteries. Kids and adults never get tired of it. I find everybody laughing and getting very competitive. Some too competitive as wrestling always seems to be next.
08/17/2016 - UPDATE !!!!

I own this game now for over a year and a half. Its used heavily and everybody loves it. The plug to the game burnt out and I called to order a replacement part from Lifetime. I was on hold for about 10 seconds, a rep found me in their computer within seconds, they asked what the problem was and FOR FREE they are sending me a replacement plug. Now come on, who does that? This company is top notch. I highly highly highly, (Did I say highly?) recommend you buy from them.
12/19/2017 - UPDATE !!!!!

It is now 3 years since I purchased this product from LIFETIME. It still works perfectly and is heavily used and a favorite in our game room. The pole that holds up the right side of the unit started to bend and I really have no idea how that started to happen. I sent an email to LIFETIME and asked to order a replacement. They are sending me a FREE REPLACEMENT and its THREE YEARS AFTER I purchased this game. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? I did not complain or ask for this to be replaced for free. They just offered it for free and shipping it for free. Who does that?? I just had to find and update this review because this Company is outstanding. If I do any future purchases and see Lifetime is the seller, I don't care how much more they might be than a competitor, I am only going with LIFETIME. Thank you so much Lifetime for the great customer service.

Nightmare to assemble! No power button! Only one game mode!
by catherine (2 out of 5 stars)
April 1, 2018

I bought this unit to replace a cheap walmart brand unit that had broken after a few years.

This game went a little overboard on quality. It was a nightmare to assemble as every single screw had locktight coating (apparently to keep it from coming unscrewed) but made it a nightmare to assemble, a good 20 minutes per screw. It took us about 8 hours to assemble and I was cursing the company's name the whole time. I would have returned it and bought a cheaper, easier to assemble brand, but it will be such a nightmare to disassemble, I was stuck. I might mention that not one piece can preassembled.

The other issue I had is that there is no power button. So, ya you can use batteries but since it won't turn off, our batteries died in 24 hours.

Also, the high tech sensors don't work very well. We tried adjusting them but they are not accurate.

Also, this unit only has one game mode. Somehow I thought it had several, but nope, only one.

Next time I will look for a middle of the line quality unit.

Many years of fun ahead. Good for the cost, not great.
by Craig W. (3 out of 5 stars)
January 11, 2016

I struggled to decide between 3 and 4 stars. Ultimately decided on 3 because I'm patriotic and this was made in china. The build quality is good. The aluminum frame is fairly sturdy once completed. The backboard is great quality, solid. Steel rims and nets are great. I think it will take many years of abuse without issue; it's not one of those things I regret buying, knowing I'll be cutting it up for trash disposal in a year after it falls apart. The backboard can be set at 2 different heights using a 12" spacer (included) which I did not realize before I bought it. It's not something you can change up and down quickly, it takes some deconstruction to happen. But not overly burdensome to start short for young children and raise up as they grow. I read some reviews before purchase that complained about the scoring with the infrared sensors. Any similar systems I used before had the flippers for scoring... those can be frustrating because generally your score is undercounted due to multiple balls going through at once without giving the flipper a chance to return to zero. Well, I have to say the infrared sensors are frustrating in the opposite direction. If you rim the ball, or hit the back of the rim and bounce out. .. a basket is counted. The instructions clearly describe how you're supposed to adjust the sensitivity of the sensors to prevent the false counting... but it didn't make a significant difference for me. There's a sensor above and another below the rim and when both detect the ball, it counts. I think they are too close together which is what causes the false counting. For some people this could ruin the whole thing. For my 5 year old and I it isn't a significant factor. There are streaks where I rim the ball 5 or 6 times in a row and end up with 18 points I didn't deserve... which is mildly troubling. But it's consistent for both, so your partner can't rightly call you or for cheating. I was very interested in the fact that it folds up out of the way. However I'm not sure I'll be using that feature... it's just a chincy push pin that holds it up and I'd be concerned the kids would try to hang on it and it would fall or pinch fingers. The basketballs are good quality. The included air pump lasted long enough to inflate all 7 balls and then basically self destructed. Took me about 2 hours to build by myself, only needed a second set of hands once. I like the product, we'll have many years of fun with this thing. But for $200 I'm not going to over rate it. It's a 3.5 star item. You'd probably have to spend a lot more money for a significant increase in quality.
