It depends upon why you bought it in the first place

I seem to recall seeing this Transformer thumb drive advertised at another website as being die-cast metal and the price being set at $49.00. When I saw this on Amazon for roughly a third of the price, I bought it. It's plastic, not die-cast metal, but hey, I got what I paid for. It's not very sturdy, though it does 'transform' into the Ravage figure and back fairly easily and does look pretty cool sitting atop my PC tower.

Two gripes: 1) 4gb isn't much these days but then I knew what the capacity was when I bought it. I didn't buy this for the storage, I bought it because its a Transformer. On the plus side, it is a working thumb drive. 2) The thumb drive is a real pain to work with. The figure's head folds under and the drive itself is supposed to slide right out. It DOES NOT slide right out. I literally kid you not that I have to force the drive out of it's housing, making me nervous that I will break it in the process. This may be specific only to the drive I happen to possess but still, it's frustrating. Okay, maybe not really frustrating for me since, as I stated, I didn't really buy this for the storage.

If you are really dead set on using this as a functional thumb drive, by all means have at it. Just know that when the Transformer is folded down into it's "thumb drive mode" its legs tend to fold back out on their own and snag on things. That means if you wanted to shove it into your pocket to carry around, you might actually break it just retrieving it from your pants. Also, I'd judge it highly impractical as a key ring.

If you buy this, buy it as a collector's item or out of nostalgia for childhood. Fold it out into it's Ravage panther mode and set it somewhere conspicuous on your desk. It that way, this is actually awesome.

Seller has great initiative!

I cannot list exactly what happened because amazon will not allow that in this section of a review. I will say this, THE SELLER HAS GREAT INITIATIVE! I was unhappy and it reflected in my original review, THEY contacted me and made things right. I'm happy with the product, yes it's not the original and yes it has no metal legs as you can read from other reviews but for the money it's pretty awesome. My husband and son love the novelty of it. They put it into the position they wanted and tightened the screws so now it holds it's stance. Just baby it since it's really a nice novelty instead of a daily user. Thank you Seatech Inc. for making things right.

Cheap materials neat desk toy

There is a more expensive version of this transforming USB stick that's made out of metal instead of cheap plastic, however it only holds 2GB instead of the 4GB this one uses. This is a neat little dust collector but it's highly impractical to use on a common basis.

Great collector/fan item, few quarks but should NOT keep you from purchasing

This Transformer USB drive is definitely one of the most "different" flash drives out there which makes it a good buy, especially if you are a transformers fan. It's easy to transform the flash drive and put it back together BUT you must be aware of the thickness that comes with it. The bulkiness prevents it from going in older computers that have "hidden"/deep USB inputs. A few other problems I noticed were the some of the screw being loose, which is not necessarily a big deal because you can tighten them but only if you have a small phillips screwdriver. Another downside which isn't really noticeable is how you have to keep pressure on the slider when putting the USB in or else the whole USB will retract in the transformer or half, and not connect. Other than that I am happy I purchased it. Good collector item and fun to show off.

Neat little flash drive

After reading other reviews I was worried about the quality of this item, but those worries have vanished. It is a little flimsy, I wouldn't hand it to a toddler, but it's not going to fall apart just from using it in a normal manner. The original version is far too expensive, even with the weaker build quality you could buy an army of these knock offs.

The actual flash memory itself seems decent, although I purchased it more as a display piece. It's not horribly slow or fast, but I have used it quite a bit as a bootable drive and it functions in that respect quite well.

I've had it well over a year now with no real problems.

It broke the first time I tried to pull it out of the USB port!
by Mike Reeds (1 out of 5 stars)

I was really excited to have this because it's a transformers USB drive, how cool is that? A hidden drive that looks like a toy! Well... I ordered it sometime back and got it probably 2-3 weeks later. I really actually forgot about it. When it arrived I was happy with it, I played around folding it into a sleek car kind of thing and the tiger mode and I then proceeded to mold it to be able to use the USB drive to load a letter and some pictures I wanted to print out for a close friend that is serving time in a corrections facility. Well, I load the documents then try to pull it out and guess what? The chip/USB part stays stuck in the USB port, the "toy" part just came out. The glue had failed, what little glue they put.

To sum it up: This is a very cheap "USB" drive. It broke on me the first use and it was very poorly made. Dont suffer paying 5 dollars for this and then 5 dollars for shipping when its going to break on you after 3 weeks of waiting.

what I expected
by chris jouglard (3 out of 5 stars)

It's what I expected from reading all the other reviews. I'm a hardcore Transformers collector and I had to have one of these to display on my soundwave shelf and its a really cool item

transforms with ease, very posable, there is a slight problem with the tail, it held on really well just by friction then after a few days it fell off. I remedied that by taking the pin joint from a small cyberverse and now it works fine but got to warn you, be careful with the tail.

the flash drive itself works fine, I have had no problems with it yet. I put most of my document files on it and it stores them all great, holds together really well too so I am not worried about it snapping off in my computer.

so either you buy this for the novelty or for the flash drive, its worth the price and I do reccomend it

the shipping was faster than expected, was well packaged, handled with the care you would hope

so I am very happy with my purchase

More Than Meets The Eye

I use this device on the daily it has music and pics store on it. The first one I received did not work but the sell replaced the item hassle free that made the purchase experience five stars to me. The product itself is a nice update of Ravage since his G1 form was a tape cassette now a USB drive very nice concept. To the makers of this device now the rest of the group that Soundwave had with him need to be made to add to the collection. Word of caution this thing is not a toy, that means I would think twice before handing this thing over to a 6 year old. This is for the collector man child [like me] who can read off the stats of Transformers like NFL fans can with their favorite team.

Love this Transformers G1 Ravage
by Buster (5 out of 5 stars)

I could not believe the price when I saw this. I wanted it for a long time but it was just to high. I jumped at the chance to own this. Plus I got it in just two days. It's packed very well. Tested the flashdrive and it works great. But even if it didn't I would not have cared. I wanted it because it's an updated Transformers G1 Ravage that ALL Transformers fans will love. It was bigger then I expected too, so that was a nice bonus. I had no problems with this at all. If you're thinking about getting this STOP and order it NOW before it's gone at this great price.

more show than go...

as a longtime Soundwave fan (and by extension, his minions)i had to get this to add to my collection, it is pretty much what you see in the picture, and aside from the silver parts being molded of white plastic, it does look like what is pictured, making for a nice Ravage figure to adorn my shelf with his master and brethren. However, it does seem to be missing screws where it's hind legs connect to the body, but the joint is tight enough to make it a non issue at first, over use though the joint may loosen and lost legs become an issue. as a USB stick it has it's design flaws. first off the slider for the USB port is really hard to move. Secondly, the shoulders stick out a bit far to be inserted into a recessed USB port (such as those found on the Lenovo ThinkCenter 6136). partially transforming the figure was able to solve that issue, however it then losses it's "Robots in Disguise" effect... Finally, if you do actually plug it into a USB port be careful when you take it out; the first time i removed mine from my computer the the USB components almost pulled right out of the figure. they push gently back in, but i find i have to watch to avoid ripping Ravage's "Brains" out every time i use it. so overall, if your getting this to add to a longstanding love of all things Soundwave (or Transfomers if you like the rest of them too) it will be a great novelty piece for you to add. However if you are wanting a whimsical everyday use USB stick, your going to need to do some reinforcement modifications first. and yes it's storage capacity is comparable to other 4GB storage devices.
