Performs as Intended

I bought this wine chiller about a month ago and am very pleased with it. A word of caution, if you are under the impression that this wine chiller brings a room temperature bottle of wine to perfect drinking temperature within minutes, this is not the product for you. Most of us store our wine in a home that is approx. 70 degrees, in other words too warm for wine storage which should be more like 55-60 degrees. We drink our whites too cold (straight out of the frig)and our reds too warm (room temp)this product is meant to bring a properly stored wine to perfect drinking temperature. Of course it is best to keep your wine stored in a device made for this purpose. If you don't own a wine frig or cellar my advice would be to put your reds in the frig about 20-30 min and whites about 30-40 min and then transfer to the wine chiller to reach proper drinking temperature to cut down on wait time. The wine chiller does emit a fan like whirring noise but if used as intended you shouldn't have to listen to it for very long and it does what its meant to do and is an attractive appliance.

Update 3/30/2014

After reading some recent negative comments on this product, I wanted to once again stress some KEY POINTS: This is NOT an "instant" wine chiller.

If you want to drink wine for any other reason than because you have anything other than at least a mild love affair with it, then just buy the bottle and drink it as you always have and don't waste your time or money. If you have an appreciation for wine and all of it's varying nuances, you will see the value of this product.

NOISE LEVEL- Yes, the fan does emit noise the entire time it is turned on, this unit is approx. 8"D X 10"T X 5"W, it is not a refrigerator and does not have a condenser. If you are having guests you merely need to turn it off and serve once your party arrives. If you are on your own you will appreciate that your last glass was as properly chilled as your first. I have mine in my the open area which consists of my relatively small dining/kitchen/livingroom area. I am the only wine drinker in my family of 5 and while keeping a bottle chilled I have never heard one complaint of the wine chiller causing excessive noise during any situation. I have found that when the fan operating sound bothers me, and quite honestly it does at times, I simply turn it off.

Not so cool

Wasn't what I had expected. We were looking for something to keep our wine cool after opening. When I saw this, I thought why not just get something that will chill or warm wine and keep it that way after opening? Our wine is stored in our cellar so it is fairly cool to begin with (not normal room temperature). When we want to open a bottle, we put it in the frig to cool it even more. It took 2.5 hours to bring a bottle of white wine to within one degree of the temperature setting selected. After 2.5 hours, I got tired of waiting and took it out. When opened, the wine was definitely NOT at the temperature shown on the display. It would have been faster to put it in the frig. I suppose if you have the time to put a bottle on in the morning and go to work for 8 hours, it might be ready by the time you got home. But the unit ran the entire time, consuming an unknown amount of electricity. Even my frig doesn't run continuously for 2.5 hours just to cool one bottle of wine. I'm returning it and looking for a regular ice bucket to put my wine in after popping the cork. My frig will cool my wine and make ice for the bucket in less time than it takes for this thing to cool a bottle.

Its cute. Nice wine library and it actually works, but it takes so long the wine chills around the same time in the freezer. Looks great on the counter top. I tend to use it when I have a guest and we are working on a bottle so the second one is kept chilled.

It good for the price, the problem it that it is noisy and fairly slow. I like the internal temperature library, which has about two dozen wine type with preprogrammed temps. I will generally set it as I start cooking.

Does a good job of getting to and holding a bottle of wine at recommended temp. It's best to cool or warm the bottle to within 6-7 degrees of recommended temp to avoid a long wait.

conned again by CONair

Unbelievably bad quality control. The first one had a line of the LCD display that would never light up, the replacement unit's LCD was completely defective, the *third* unit didn't cool/heat at all. I'm not surprised--Waring is now owned by CONair. I've had similar quality problems with other brands owned/bought-up by CONair. I won't be conned again.
