I was going to come here and tell everybody not to waste their money

I was SOO mad! I was going to come here and tell everybody not to waste their money. I was going to tell everyone what a piece of junk this was...it's hardly sparks at all! I could not believe it. I have carried Zippos for decades, how could they make such something that doesn't work? The thing was well made, to be sure.

I was surprised by all the positive reviews. Did I get a bum one? Then I realized...I was spinning the strike wheel the wrong way! HEEE-HAAW! Wow, did I feel STUPID!!! I'm actually sitting here laughing at myself..what a doofus I am! Lol! So yes, it is well made, and functions flawlessly. Oh, BW, don't remove the little sticker on the wheel showing which way to strike it! DOH! :)

What can you say... It's a Zippo!

I'm glad I have this one and not the plastic model... metal is so much more durable, besides... I've had a metal Zippo lighter on or about my person for nearly 40 years. Yes, I'm an idiot smoker.... I keep this and a UCO Stormproof Match Kit with Waterproof Case, 25 Stormproof Matches and 3 Strikers - Orange in my Maxpedition Proteus Versipack along with a couple fire steels just in case. This appears to be 'water resistant', but I dunno bout 'water proof'.... 'sides, what difference does it make? This will spark in any condition, wet or dry. Just make certain you have extra tinder in a water proof container... also, I wish this came with more than 4 tinder sticks... and I wish they burned a bit longer (1 or 2 minutes, long enough to start a fire). Overall, this is a good product... and it's a Zippo. Pretty much "bomb proof".... get one and toss it in you pack....

Works as described

It's very easy to start a fire with this kit. I had never started a fire from a spark before and it was very easy to do with this kit. I followed the instructions regarding opening up the tinder and spreading it out. That made it easy to catch a spark after only a few attempts. Once the tinder caught a spark, it burst into flames very quickly. The tinder itself doesn't burn as long as other larger firestarters, but using proper fire building techniques, this would be great in an emergency situation and much easier than using a match or a regular lighter. I'm using it as part of the emergency gear I have in my RV so I can "pack and forget" and have no worries about stale matches or evaporated lighter fluid.

I like that it's packaged in a Zippo case the familiar Zippo "click" when you open it. I recommend buying a refill kit with it Zippo Tinder Sticks For Emergency Fire Starter so that you can test it out when you first get it. The kit itself only comes with four tinders.

The eleventh essential..

I am not normally into "gadgets" but I love this thing. We were camping at the base of Mount Adams when I realized I had no idea where any matches were that were handy. But I had this and I had never used it. WOW! Started right up and I also learned that if you have other paper you can start it with one of the wicks that come with this and then put the wick out to use it again. I highly recommend this. I have this one, the metal version, I have no idea how rugged the plastic one is.

Nice produce

This is a Zippo and as such, meets the expected high quality build. Small storage area for tinder sticks that holds a few sticks, a larger area would be nice, but this does the job. Striker works well and lights the tinder stick easily. Waterproof seal to keep insides dry and if you pack it properly it should stay closed. It can be bumped open and that is the only issue I can find with this product.

Pretty good

Went camping and started a fire with it, not much more I can say. It did take some time and I recommend this as a back up. Just be sure to practice before your in a situation that you have to use. I do feel better knowing it is in my pack should I need it.
