I LOVE these things

If you want to be able to trust your 8 and 11 year old to make pancakes without destroying your kitchen.....this is how. I LOVE these things. Bought one for each kid. I whip up the batter in a bowl, fill up the bottles and give one to each kid. They make however many pancakes they want to eat, put the cap on and put the left over in the fridge for either seconds or to use the next day. Brilliant idea! And way better than recycling an old ketchup bottle. (that was a horror story and a half...trying to squeeze pancake batter out the new version ketchup bottle lids...one tiny batter lump and muscles from Brussels 8 year old boy turned my kitchen into the pancake apocalypse.) These are affordable, and most importantly. manufactured specifically for this purpose. Two thumbs up!

Its fun to make pancakes now!

I have been having so much fun with this pancake pen! I make the kids pancakes about 1x per week and so it was nice to be able to mix it up from the same old circles. It does take a little practice to get used to the necessary amount of pressure, but once you do its pretty easy to make some fun designs. I'm not an artist, but I've spelled out the kids' names, made hearts, sharks, butterflies, dinosaurs, teddy bears, flowers, and more. I've even figured out how to brown it with the right timing to make a baseball with the proper stitches, hahaha. The pen itself is easy to handle, though I don't think it needs to be as big as it is. I've made a double batch (with like 20 fair-sized pancakes) and it didn't come close to filling the pen. Smaller would have been fine, but it is still easy to handle as is. Its also easy to clean. Hot water and soap, shake, rinse. Done. I've also used this to fill cupcakes and its been great!

This thing is amazing!!

First of all, I have to say that I do not usually write reviews, but I am so happy with this pancake pen that I feel compelled to review it. I am so impressed with whoever invented this thing! It is awesome!! I do quite a bit of scratch baking and several of my cupcake batters are very thin. I usually have a very difficult time getting the batter into the cupcake liners without dripping the batter everywhere and making a big mess. I've tried various scoops, pouring cups, etc. in an effort to reduce the mess and get all the batter into the cupcake liners without dripping it all over the cupcake pan in the process. Nothing has worked.....until now! I ordered the pancake pen because after reading the reviews I discovered that it has a smaller spout than the cupcake pen so I thought it would work better for my thin batter. It did just that! I have 1,000 mini cupcakes to make for an upcoming event and I was really dreading pouring the batter into the mini cupcake liners. The regular sized liners are difficult enough! I just baked 100 mini cupcakes using my new pancake pen and I have to tell you that I didn't spill one drop, not even one drop!! And I filled 100 mini cupcake liners! I couldn't believe it!! It is easy to fill and easy to clean. I like how the top and bottom both unscrew and come off. That makes it really easy to clean. It dosen't leak or drip at all. It stands up on its sturdy flat bottom when you set it down on the counter. I know I sound like a bit of a lunatic raving like this over a plastic batter pourer, but you just don't understand how much mess and aggravation the pancake pen has saved me. This thing is absolute perfection :)!!!

Great for creative pancake making

I bought this for my sister, who enjoys making creatively shaped pancakes for her family. She just pours the batter into the pen, then uses the pen to create whatever shapes she has in mind on her griddle. She has told me that for pancake mixes that just require water and mix, she pours the water in the pancake pen, measures in the mix, and then shakes it all together right in the pen (with her finger over the hole) before dispensing the mix from the pen.

Note that this is not the size of a writing pen--it is closer in size to a sports bottle.

My sister really likes it and says she is going to buy a few more so she can add food coloring or juices to the various bottles to make multi-colored pancakes.

Good for honey
by Jen (5 out of 5 stars)

We have bees and use a lot of honey. We have been using an old kayro syrup bottle which the lid broke on sometime ago. So back to dipping it out of jars with spoons. I began on a quest to find a honey dispenser. None of which looked like what I wanted. I happened upon Tovolo pancake pen. It works great. Both ends open so you can clean it. It holds a lot -3 cups equals less filling. Does not pour Out of spout uncontrollably. I bought 2. One for honey and one to make pancakes with. I have not tried making pancakes yet. But I'm sure it will make it easier to make them the same size.

Finally no mess pancakes!

I think this is my new favorite kitchen tool! I never make pancakes because, to me, they're too messy. With this nifty batter squeeze you can make perfectly poured pancakes every time. I have also put the unused batter into the refrigerator and had pancakes the next day because my batter is stored in the container that takes up the space the diameter of a soda can. Just pull it out of the fridge and pour. I love this gadget and definitely plan on gifting it to everyone.

I LOVE this! And now I have a PRETTY GREEN one!!!

I LOVE this! I gave the first one to my brother - - truly in sisterly-love (I have 6 brothers!), as it was one of my favorite kitchen tools, but he is so good to me and is such a good man I wanted him to have this to use for his own cooking. I sometimes, when I'm on a PC or WAFL kick (Yes, I know, misspelled, but I am lazy today), will mix up the dough and pour it into here (Using a canning funnel), then cap it and keep in the refrig to make one at a time. It lasts for a couple of weeks if I can't get back to it and this is a REAL time-saver. Great for cupcakes too! And now I have a PRETTY GREEN one!!!

Easy to use
by Kindle Customer (5 out of 5 stars)

I use this little gadget for my pancake batter. I mix the batter in a separate 8 cup pyrex measuring cup first because shaking batter like that under any circumstance would probably not be a good idea. Even if the instructions say you can mix in the bottle, I don't recommend it. The bottle looks small but actually holds 3 cups of batter! That is about what I normally mix so it is perfect. The bottle does not leak and since the top and bottom screw off the cleanup is very easy. You could easily store excess batter in the bottle and leave it in the fridge for use later on.

This bottle doesn't leak and there are no spills like when I use a ladle. My pancakes are more consistent in size and cooking is less messy without the spills. You could easily make letters or different shaped pancakes to impress the children, and their favorite mini pancakes are a breeze now.

Okay...

I purchased this for my Daughters when we have to make pancakes. I thought this would not be as messy when trying to pour each individual pancake. I use a measuring cup to pour. This creates spills that need to be cleaned up hence the reason for the purchase.

I am giving this 3 stars because even though this is a pain in the you know what to clean it still is easier to make the Mickey Mouse pancakes that my Daughters LOVE!

After all is said and done you are better off just using a measuring cup. You STILL have to pour this into the container! This is JUST another item that needs to be washed! Not worth the time or effort to clean.

Eh

I bought this pen because I saw it on America's Test Kitchen one Saturday morning. I had been making a lot of pancakes that week and figured that getting this item would help make more even pancakes without so much mess. Well, it helps with that, but I hate the fact that you lose out on so much of your batter. If you don't scrape down the sides from time to time or shake or pound the pen in the palm of your hand like a bottle of ketchup, then you probably won't be getting the batter that slowly slides down the inner walls of the thing. Not to mention that there's batter all around the ring where the nozzle is, which is stuck there unless you unscrew the thing and take either a spoon or your finger to clear it out. The design needs to be revamped a little, that's for sure, but know that there's a better pancake dispenser on the market somewhere. I found one that made more sense than this pen, but for the life of me I don't remember the name. I haven't used this item in maybe six to seven months.
