Not odorfree, better for outdoor use
by Jennifer B. (3 out of 5 stars)

This is not an odorfree fireplace, and when it burns, the air in the room has a subtle but profound heavy petroleum feel and smell. I have a slight tendency to asthma, and within minutes of burning this fireplace in the living room my asthma kicked in. It is beautiful, well priced, and super-easy to use the sterno-like canisters, but we will be saving this fireplace for outdoor use only. I suppose it could work for me in a large drafty (loft-like) room.

Modern and sexy

For starts I love this fireplace! Like other comments prior to this do your research because the flame gel cans are pricey but if you know what you getting yourself into then money shouldn't be a issue. The only issue that I do have with this unit is the fumes but to be honest it's so pretty I easily ignore my issue with fireplace. Just crack open a window or spray fabreeze before guest come over. Also as an alternative when I don't wanna put the fire on but still wanna have an eye popping piece I brought 8 inch flame less candles that are on a timer. They look amazing are scented and made outta wax but aren't real but look smell and feel real. They also flicker as if they were real. Inglo makes them...

sleek

This is a very substantial and sleek/modern fireplace. It arrived well wrapped and protected. It is heavy, about 50lbs and not very easy to move from one location to another due to its design; I put it on a rug to slide to different locations. The "Real Flame" fuel does indeed burn close to 3 hours. The glass only gets hot right where the flames are and just above so no need to worry about the outer edges or those edges near the floor causing heat damage. Very nice if this suites your style. I assembled by myself, but with the heavy pieces of glass a 2nd person is helpful. I put decorative cylinder candles over the provided canister holder cover when not using as a fireplace.

Perfect backup for heat
by SClinton (5 out of 5 stars)
February 23, 2014

This isn't going to heat your entire house when the polar vortex causes sub-arctic temps, but it did add substantial heat to a 12x12 corner room that has been impossible to keep warm, and to an adjacent hallway. The room is located on the short end of an L-shaped ranch home and its windows catch the wind and blowing snow from three sides, so the room is usually closed off during the winter months. We needed an in-home office and decided to try to heat that room with this fireplace. The holder was dented when it arrived, but not enough to warrant a return. Setup was unbelievably easy - assembled and fired up within an hour of delivery. Styling is modern and minimal so it fits into any decor unobtrusively. It is a bit heavy to be readily portable, but it can be done. I started with just one canister and it did disperse heat nicely to the immediate area, but when I added all three gel fuel packs, the room was toasty within a half hour. It is inexpensive and efficient, and it will be a great backup for heat during power outages. I will be purchasing another one for the lower level. One caveat if you have animals (especially cats) or children: this fireplace is open on three sides and the fire is readily accessible. The accompanying warnings mention keeping it away from drapes, etc., but curious kids/cats are especially vulnerable and drawn to the active flame, so for those households, I would recommend a framed, enclosed fireplace.

Looks so classy.
by king philip ii (4 out of 5 stars)

It's really more for the classy look and the ambience it creates, rather than for heat. But that's what I was going for since there's no wall in my living room suitable to install the more expensive real gas fireplace. This one looks much more expensive than it costs. There's a mild fuel smell that doesn't bother me. If your room is well-ventilated, the smell is less. The best part is the crackling sound that the gel fuel makes that simulates a true fireplace. I love it. Very easy to assemble and move around the house. Make sure you cover the cans once the flame is gone because if you don't, just like any fireplace, the room will smell smoky. I think the price of the fuel cans are reasonable. If not, then you have a choice of just using 1 (the middle one) or 2 (1 on each end) cans, and it'll still look nice.

Perfect.

I have been living in condos for my entire adult life. Of course, a fire place is nice, but it's dirty and takes up space AND costs, especially in an urban environment. Along comes this little guy, and I have to tell ya, it's great!! Small, compact, sturdy and fun. Looks GREAT. Classic and modern at once. A real piece of art not matter what is in it. Speaking of which, I would highly recommend the real flame gel. It is nearly odorless and has a very pleasant crackle when it burns. You get just enough light to set a mood and a touch of heat. It is very safe provided you follow instructions. (Please do that). There have been some complaints about the smell, but I find it very slight. Besides, its a FIRE.

So, overall great purchase. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Great for renters, but definitely a luxury with ongoing costs...
by Alexandra (5 out of 5 stars)

We've gotten so many compliments on this dramatic, modern piece. Great to light up when guests come over, and also for intimate nights in with someone special. Definitely not the cheapest of indulgences, when you factor in the cost of the cans, but such a lovely luxury on cold nights.

Note - I wouldn't *exactly* call it portable - it's very heavy, about 50lbs, and the large amount of glass makes moving it a lot a somewhat dicey proposition. But it's doable - though definitely be careful about scratching floors!

As for concerns - I, for one, was worried about heat damaging the floor or wall. So far so good, although we do pull it away from the wall whenever we use it.

Beautiful and elegant, great value for its price.

Truly beautiful and elegant. It is really a piece that demands conversation. I live in Portland Or and always wanted a fireplace in my house. We live in a beautiful Victorian home but no fire place. This kinda solved the problem for me.

When it arrived, It was way heavier and larger than what I expected. It was pretty easy to put together, I am not much of a handyman but if I was able to do it, most everyone our reading this with 2 hands can get it done.

Once assembled, it should stay in place as its pretty heavy and not really meant to move around.

With the right burning liquid, this makes a great beautiful ambiance.

LOVE LOVE LOVE
by nifa21 (5 out of 5 stars)

I brought this gift for my boyfriend for our apartment. The structure is very beautiful, but the glass is thick and heavy, so a strong person or a man will be needed to move it. The fire only reaches about half way up the glass and doesn't give off sparks or mini fires. The fire looks amazing and beats an electric fireplace because there is actually a real fire.

Assembly is easy and took about 15 minutes. Once you insert your gel fuel your ready to go. Gel fuel can get expensive after a while (it cost about 9 bucks per fire) , but its overall a great purchase for an apartment. I would highly recommend purchasing

Frustrating to assemble, is not sturdy and does not look as pretty, and still not straight parallel to each other as in the picture I hated it but its harder to package it again and resend it, I am stuck with it now
