Works well

This is a pretty neat little thing to have, if you like fresh corn but would rather have it off the cob. We got it for someone who has trouble eating corn off the cob but still loves the flavor of fresh corn. The only down side is that, if you get a skinnier cob, it will slide through without peeling off much kernel. I believe there may be a way to adjust that, but I haven't figured it out yet. However, for most cobs, it works great. You do have to be a little careful getting the corn out between cobs. It'll come out the opening, but I tend toward banging things when they don't just fall out and that will make corn hop out all over the kitchen. You can easily twist off the top and get everything out, though. Some kernels will try to hide behind the places where it attaches, but you can shake them around and get them out. Or take the top off. It did take me a couple of tries to figure out how to get it open the first time. But again, that was my impatience. Once I got it figured out it was easy. I misread the direction it said to turn the top.... I do like it lots better than trying to cut off kernels with a knife, which tends to be a little dangerous for an impatient soul such as myself.

It worked perfectly!

I bought this as a gift for my Gpa, who has some weird allergic reaction to eating corn straight off the cob. So while everyone else is sitting down to a beautiful, delicious meal, my Gpa spends the first 5 minutes cutting his corn off the cob.

I gave this to him on Father's Day, and he tried it that week. He and my Gma were both amazed and tickled at how well it worked. I questioned how big of an ear would fit in it, because the hole is very tiny, and it looked like the adjustable parts were already adjusted to the largest setting, but he said he used a big, fat piece of corn, and it worked perfectly.

For now, I am giving this 5 stars because I have no reason not to, but I will return to amend if the product breaks quickly. For the price, it was definitely worth the delight and amusement my Gparents got out of it.

I say try it.

Works great! Why didn't I think of this?

After reading some of the reviews, I was hesitant about buying this. I am glad that I decided to just go for it. The blade inside self adjusts to the cob. It looks like it won't fit, but it will. Just start on the narrow end of the cob to get it to work. My suspicion is that the folks that are complaining are using it incorrectly.

The chief complaint I have about this great tool is that it's a bit clunky to use, and can be a bit messy. OK, really messy, but nowhere near as messy as trying to use a traditional kerneler.

Plastic is sturdy. It's top-rack dishwasher safe. Great at capturing all of the kernels into its sturdy cup with the twist off lid.

Buy this. You won't regret it.

already threw it away.

Not all corn are the same size, this is not usefull. It take a ridiculous effort just to push the cob though this thing and unless your corn grew for this product you will waste more then you get to eat. This ones to big, this ones to small, ah this ones just right...my arms are tired, my hands are sticky, never mind I'm not hungry anymore.

i could just use a kitchen knife and scrape down 5 times for better results

No wonder it has a [As seen on infomercial TV] red tv logo on the box. Cheap useless junk.

The center hole is not adjustable, at least to my knowledge, and so it is too big a hole for the cobs I have.

So I waste at least half of each cob. And the kernels are more like fingernails. :(

what a piece of crap.

Good, but too light.

This corn tool is pretty good. it is too light tho that it makes you feel like it will break on your hands pushing on a corn. Tool works as advertised but I decided to not use it anymore. Works, but feels unsafe while using. Do try it, the issue is probably just me.

WORTHLESS! Threw it in the trash on first use!
by Scott Macaluso (1 out of 5 stars)

Fought with this hunk of garbage for two minutes before throwing it right in the trash and crying a little.

Like some other reviews said, there is no way to adjust this, so 90% of the cobs will be too big or too small to work. Mine went down about half way then stopped when the cob was too big to continue. It juices most of the kernels, so you now have juice all over your hands, trying to slam this thing down that's made of cheap plastic and jagged metal. I'm shocked that I still have my thumbs.

You then have to get the stuck half-stripped cob out of the device, which is another pain. Kernels are flying everywhere, juice is running off the counter and all the while, your girlfriend is laughing at you and judging your poorly thought out internet impulse purchase.

Now, to add insult to injury, WE HAD TO GO TO THE DAMN POST OFFICE TO SIGN AND PICK THIS PIECE OF TRASH UP!

You want to ruin your day by having to wait in line at the post office to get something that will ruin your night as well? Then this plastic headache is for you.

If you're not so masochistic, then don't bother.

amco one-step corn kerneler
by Kyle 07 (5 out of 5 stars)
July 12, 2012

this kerneler does an amazing job.I took the biggest ear of corn i had and it adjusted to remove the kernels perfectly. I even had an ear that I cut 2 inches of the top off and it worked with the same amount of effort (very little) as a whole ear of corn.the only draw back is its a little tough to clean by hand since it adjusts to ear size the blades do get alot of kernel debris , but well worth it. I would recommend to anyone.

I Wanted to Like This, But...
by L. A. Dixon (2 out of 5 stars)
September 26, 2012

I wanted to like this product--it seems like a wonderful idea! But it doesn't work very well in practice. There are a few different issues. I gave it two stars because if you get just the right size corn cob, it does what it's supposed to...but it's really hard to find the right size corn cob.
1) As others have mentioned, it doesn't fit all corn cobs well. That seems obvious, as different corncobs are different sizes, and there's no way to adjust it. This is less of an issue as long as the cob is small enough to fit the hole. But if it's too small, half the corn will still be stuck to the cob.
2) You have to wait until the corn cobs are relatively cool, otherwise you burn your hands. And few people want to eat cold corn off the cob.
3) It is incredibly messy. The main reason I bought this was to eliminate the mess that comes with simply cutting the corn off with a knife, but this isn't any better. It's almost worse, because it's hard to get the corn out of the container.
4) A friend recently told me you can get about the same results by pushing a corn cob through the inner hole of a bundt pan. So why even bother spending money on this thing that only sort of works?

I would return this item if I could, because we're not going to use it beyond our attempts thus far. Since I don't think I can return it after having used it, it's probably going to end up being a Dirty Santa gift this Christmas.

Waste of money.
by A. Ruth Young (1 out of 5 stars)

I bought it and it broke the first time I used it. It does not adjust, does not hold two ears of kernels as advertised and does not do a good job of removing kernels. I ended up doing the job the old fashion way. Both ways are messy. Waste of $8+.
