Don't be fooled by vendor claims

So first of all I own a bladefish 5000. I purchased this because it looked like a dream. Let me just dispel some false claims. 1) the only way this scooter goes over 1mph is if you are pulling a torpedo shaped keebler elf or being towed by a boat. I could imagine if you are snorkeling it would be a nice addition - add some confidence - and super light / reliable for shore dives.
2) anything that pulls you at 3mph would make kicking irrelevant - and more of a nuissance.
3) the only scooter I know that gets close to as fast as they claim (3.75mph)for as long as they claim - costs $6750.

Truth: This is a great snorkeling scooter. It is light... the battery life is awesome as the advertisement claims but notice the star next to the run time. That run time is not continuous 120 minutes - it is 2 hours under "normal use". This means stop and go. With that said - I have run the thing in the ground to near dead and it goes way over an hour so thumbs way up on battery performance! (FYI I weigh 200-210llbs) For a snorkeler/rapid diver with an extra $700 - this is your dream device!

False: I've seem some interesting blogs and advertisements - even people tethering this device to their scuba gear. I've used it on a 100' dive and I can say with absolute truth it will pull you - at a slow swimming pace. You will find yourself wanting to kick - thus negating many of the air saving features of a scooter. This is marketed as a scuba scooter to scuba divers. It CAN work in this fashion but don't expect it to replace the normal torpedo scooter. The technology is not there and I promise if you run it along side any normal torpedo - you will be dissappointed.

Even my Sea Doo Explorer X is MUCH more powerful - MUCH faster - and is actually easier to drive and use. (i.e. one handed operation and proper shape for tethering.) If you are looking for this to replace a torpedo style or be an alternative first scooter.... I wasn't that impressed. The whole floaties thing isn't the greatest either.

If you are looking for a portable addition to your torpedo style scooter that you can use for light dives, snorkeling, and can fit in your luggage - or a scooter you can finally pass to your friend one handed - this is great. As for a scooter replacement - it's just not ready for showtime. Big thumbs up to Bladefish for pushing the industry towards lithium ION in rec scooters - I hear sea doo is also making one. (although Sea Doo has a questionable reliability record - their Explorer X for $500 on amazon is very tempting!)

The problem seems to be the motherboards I would not recommend them.

I brought the blade fish 5000 for my son in Palma it managed to last two summers equivalent to about 20 x 30 minute at the same time I purchased the 7000 which lasted about 5 x 15min trips before breaking down. The problem seems to be the motherboards I would not recommend them.

Pros: Very well built, battery charging is a lot better than Seadoo's, batteries last for 2 hours as advertised, lightweight, small and fits anywhere.

Cons: Noisier than the Seadoo, scares off some species of fish, not as fast as advertised, to reach 3 miles you need a to pump in your fins, not as easy to drive as it seems.

Dead Battery - NO REPAIR POSSIBLE

I purchased the Bladefish 5000. A year and a half later the battery is dead. Was sent back for repair. Was told CAN NOT REPAIR! I am now out of $700.00 but was told I can buy a new 5000 for 50% off.

The unit was sent back to me and I tried to take apart the Bladefish but after an hour can not take it apart.

I am one very unhappy Bladefish 5000 user! I would NOT advise anybody to purchase this! It is trash now!

I recently inherited a small fortune... roughly $800. First thing I bought was this amazing toy. Why? Well, i like to snorkel, but I find that gently moving my legs up and down to propel me is just way too much effort. I am so glad I made this decision, because this thing really books it at 1mph! Way faster than I could ever propel myself with the typical "swimming" BS that everyone else is dealing with in the water. That being said, having this directly in front of my face is in no way inconvenient while i'm underwater trying to look at all the cool stuff down there. Also, it tends to get hot underwater, so the cool action of the fan in my face is quite refreshing. All in all, this is well worth the price, and has saved my legs untold amounts of labor. Good job!

Faulty Bladefish

I Have 2 bladefish 7000 and both have failed with about 20 hours use , they require new printed circuit boards but Bladefish offer no replacement parts

These things cost Me over £600 each and are little more than scrap, the importers do not answer e-mails and there is no aftermarket support!

There is a new model coming out soon but I will not be buying them, indeed I would seriously urge people to spend perhaps more money on something else not necessarily better but with Backup and support!

Underwater "scooter"

First of all this just doesn't work. Second, if this is a scooter, then I'm a bear in a circus that juggles knives. They definitely don't understand the concept of a scooter.
