amazing product & customer service

Love these! We ordered 4 sets in total. Maybe a third of them arrived not working because the on-off switch probably got bumped in transit. The seller was super-responsive and not only sent us replacement lights, but also fresh batteries! Talk about customer service.

The lights were a hit at our party. The few that we forgot to turn off at the end of the night were still lit the next morning, over 12 hours later! And they took a beating when some guests tossed them around, but they stayed lit and perfect.

Thanks for a fantastic item and customer service!

Please allow me to clarify any misconceptions you will have about these.
1) There is no "on/off" switch, simply 2 buttons on the bottom of the balls that cause it to light up when you touch them or place them in water
2) They will not stay on if you do not have them in water.
3) They do not have "modes" they cycle through 9 different color then blink quickly then stop, they will not stay on unless they are in water and they will continue to cycle through the same sets of colors over and over
4) they are not completely waterproof (counter intuitive seeing as to how they are water/touch activated)

Their customer support was indeed very helpful, the product though, in my humble opinion is misleading.

Wonderful and well made.

These were a real hit at our July 4th celebration - I set half to red and half to blue and floated them in my pool around dusk (in full daylight their lights are not visible), they were magical. Of course, my color choices (while perfect for me) under utilized these balls: they do orange, purple, green, yellow, white, and color change (maybe more). They are well designed and manufactured. There's a plastic piece that secures over the power/program button to prevent incidental button presses. It can be reversed for easy access to the buttons or removed and used as a key to open the ball and change the battery. All the balls functioned perfectly during the party (from dusk until around midnight) one ball failed around midnight (I'm guessing it was the battery) but my 2 year old son fell in love with these and slept with one glowing all night. This one is still glowing away and has been continuously on for well over 24 hrs.
It is the premature death of one of the balls that lost a star from this review.

My findings arre relatively consistent with other reviews. A few of the balls arrived dented but was so excited we didnt care. A few of the batteries dead out of the box likley due to being switched on before transit or in factory testing, but no big deal - other thn they are a little challenging to install. Loved the look of these in the pool but they all drained the bateries overnight. Cool item but not what I would have expected. They need an auto-off or some sort of light sensor to preserve the batteries. They have now been lying around for two weeks because the batteries will cost about what I paid for the item. Not upset, not pleased.

They don't care if you get the items poorly working
by Hunnie Dollar (1 out of 5 stars)

I bought these lights because it said it had changing mode which means it would go between several colors when they came there was no instructions in the box, also one of the balls was poorly dented see in picture. Secondly we got 10 blue balls into pink balls we can push the on off button and it does change the colored lights but there are no settings or to settings as flashy blinking lights or calls to change modes. Then I contacted customer service with flashy blinking lights they seem to be responsive at first and very nice... So when I told her I did the troubleshooting and nothing changed she told me I needed to speak with Amazon They did absolutely nothing and just threw their hands in the air very unfortunate

Really a hit at our party

I was prepared for some of these to not work based on other reviews, so we got two sets and love them! They have a one color option and a multi-color option. They are bright, float well and our party guests thought they were great. I would use these lots of other ways too and we will order again. Well packed too each one in its own small box.

Great option to the larger more expensive single orbs...

Worked well and were super fun. They cycle thru all colors, then also have settings for fade-in/out. After dark I tossed them into the pool and floated them in a fountain. Fantastic.

Handy button on the bottom easily allows for the setting the colors, with off position between each. Also includes a plastic cover "tool" that makes it easy to open the battery compartment which seems to be water tight.

I bought 2 sets and they worked great. 3 arrived with dead batteries but I happed to have additional on hand (2 batteries each), and they were fine.

Mine worked perfect and added a pop of fun to the evening

I used these for an adult party and put a few in my birdbath and each of my ponds - they looked best in my "water wall" though as the ponds each have fountains that pushed the balls into one location. All were individually packed and all worked for the entire evening and I have repacked them for the next time - maybe Halloween

Sorry the colors didn't render well - they were set to blue and green! (picture 1 bridbath far left corner, picture 2 pond #1, picture 3 (blurry) water wall & pond #2 (balls in two parts of pond and all the way up the water wall- 5 levels - you can only see a few of the levels)

Awesome fun toys! Great for the pool, but has many other uses as well.

I got these for a pool, but found they're great to let kids play with outside of a pool. Can also be used around the house or yard for any sort of decorating fun.

They run on two 2032 batteries, included, and they include a little plastic 'key' to help screw/unscrew the battery compartment. The electronics are waterproof, but the batteries aren't, read more on that below.

The compartment is sealed by a thin rubber oring. I've been using these in a saltwater pool, and everyone loves them.

PROS:
* Cheap, but fun!
* Batteries last surprisingly long.. like, 30+ hours. Wow.
* You get a good number for the price
* Kids love them.. us adults do also!
* Can be tossed around and abused, they really take a beating
* Electronics are waterproof. This is rare.

OTHER THOUGHTS:
* From the factory, some of the orings may not be in place properly. Check them before use.
* Some might have a dimple in one or two of them in the box, which might bother folks.

More details below:

OPERATION:

Operation is simple. You press the button, and it lights up a certain color. Press it again, and it shuts off. After you cycle through all available colors, you will hit the 'random cycling' setting which smoothly transitions constantly through all the colors. Pretty cool.

HOW LONG THE BATTERIES LAST:

For the most part, I am shocked at how long the batteries last. I'm still using the batteries which were included. So far, I've been able to get about 30 hours out of all of them with hardly any difference in light output. Past 30 hours, you can see the intensity beginning to fade. They last longer if you're not on the 'constantly changing color' setting, or if you're on a base color (red, green, blue). Not all batteries are alike, so some folks will get less performance, and others may get more. At around 40 hours you're probably going to want to replace the batteries.

With how cheap 2032's are on Amazon, these things can be used A LOT, and not cost you much at ALL.

COLOR CONSISTENCY:

As to be expected, the colors all varied a little bit. In other words, red on one wasn't the exact shade of red on another. This is due to a lot of reasons, it's not necessarily a quality thing, it's just because with how simple these are made, you're going to get variance in the product. Especially for $3/ea ball. I didn't find it bothered me, I actually feel it adds some character to everything if you're wanting all of them to be the same color.

ORING:

Because the oring is so thin, I suggest taking precaution first before using them in water. Unscrew the cap gently, make sure the oring is even all the way around the threads. Take a thin film of silicone grease (vaseline would work in a pinch, but it will deteriorate the oring!), and put it around the whole oring, as well as the threads. Next, screw the cap back in place. This will keep the oring from binding (which would allow leaks), and will help ensure water-tight enclosure. You could use teflon tape, 5-6 wraps all the way around, to truly seal the device, if you are paranoid.

I mention the oring and grease because after a few hours of play, we were tossing them around, and several times they hit the concrete. They continued to work, but the jarring against the concrete caused one of the orings to snap because it wasn't in place properly. This allowed salt water to creep into the battery compartment, and shorted the batteries out. Replacing the batteries worked. I believe I will use teflon tape in the future, because we are pretty harsh on these little things!

The device itself, even the electronics, are waterproof. The batteries are not. If a device of yours goes out suddenly, check for water. If you notice black or weird sludge around the batteries, it's water which has caused them to short and leak. Simply clean it off and replace the batteries.

DIMPLED BALLS:

One of them was dimpled, like a ping pong ball, as one of the other reviewers noted. I couldn't get it undimpled, but it doesn't keep the ball from floating. It floats and looks fine. The dimple could be pulled out by drilling a tiny hole in the ball and pulling the dimple out either with force, or by using air, but you'd have to seal the hole with silicone. Or you could just let it alone, it still works fine.

THE DESIGN:

For any engineers or electronics folks, it's a simple PCB with 3 LEDs. Red, Green, Blue. One of them might be a dual white on some of the PCB's, as some of the balls show a "true" white, and some show a "blended" white. The microprocessor is covered entirely with your typical silicone. The electronics connections are all covered as well. The only thing exposed are the legs of the LEDs, the SMT switch and the batteries themselves. Very simple.

THE BUTTON:

The button is a simple rubber membrane on one side, providing the water proof properties, and on the other it's a simple screw which gets pushed against a surface mount switch. Be advised, if you're going to abuse them like we have (by tossing them around), if the button gets scuffed or cut, water will enter the unit. This might only happen if you're truly, truly, harshly abusive. We're tossing these around and they're hitting concrete, and have not had an issue. So no fear. I just wanted to give a heads-up. Also, don't SMASH the button. A gentle press should do it nicely.

These things are awesome. We tossed them into the pool for an evening party, and they were just beautiful! All 12 worked, I have no complaints. Just FYI, they're not much larger than a baseball, which is exactly what I'd wanted.
