High quality, but some durability flaws.

I purchased this Leatherman 4 years ago on Amazon. It's cool and it's functional, high quality. I've traveled with this around the world and utilized it on an almost daily basis. It's durable, but to a degree. Here are some cons I've found:
1: The brass scraper is junk. I used it a couple times cleaning my rifle before it snapped off. It also leaves a residue, so if your trying to get that libo on Friday and your not bros with the armorer, it's not for your.
2: The tool designed for pushing the pins out of your weapon should only be used for such. Also snapped off with minimal use.
3. The retaining pin that holds the screwdriver extensions in place malfunctions and I've lost one when carrying it without the sheath.
4: The pocket clip sucks. It's extremely difficult to remove from a pocket or bag. 4 years and mine didn't break in.

My overall opinion would be to spend less money on a design with more tools. Still highly recommend Leatherman.

SERIOUS Multi tool....MUT...Military utility tool

Wow this is the real deal... it's so well-made out of the box it's very stiff and needs to be broken in, I used a little gun oil to help lubricate the points that move. After opening and closing tool a couple hundred times it worked itself into a very easy to control yet still has Enough tension feel, Knife blade is one of the sharpest I've ever got out of the box, and the longer screw driver is what's definitely needed. The knife blade is one of the sharpest I've ever got out of the box, and the longer screw driver is what's definitely needed. The sheath that it comes with is very High quality however I think that's the one part that's not made in the USA. No complaints on the sheath other than where it's made. This seems a little heavy for every day carry but so far I've carried it last week everywhere I went with no issues and after a day or two forgot It's on me. The sheath fits my 2 inch tactical belt perfectly using the Molly to Cinch it down. The clip that comes on the tool itself is a little smaller and more for a pocket then a tactical belt. I would definitely recommend this with the caution that it is bigger and heavier than most but that's why love it I'm not sure my dad would carry it but I'll carry it everywhere. I took a picture with my raptor shears to show the size.

Does the job.
by Sine Nomine (4 out of 5 stars)

Mixing the two functions (A letherman and an AR15 tool) means it has such little space to be great at either. But it suffices to be both. It is very heavy for a Leatherman but does incorporate a small hammer, which is fantastic for when you are frustrated at the MUT or just feel like braking something.

Daily tasks; screwdriver, plyers, knife, good to go. Then you have all the nice add on's; bottle opener....uh. The size and weight makes it s*** for an EDC Leatherman. Do not buy this for that intention.

As an AR tool, the the bolt override is a great idea but I feel the one time I have a high brass jam I'm going to forget all about it and end up using a stick. The push rod for Takedown pins... Well again, I'll grab a round and push it through, so not really necessary.

Incorporating the cleaning tools must have been one of those what else can we cram on there tools. I can't imagine ever using them seriously. If you really need to clean your rifle on the go. You have failed. If you're done for the day; use better tools! So yeah...

For the cavillian market. This makes a good talking piece for all the gear queers out there that will never find themselves actually NEEDING it. As for military application, or very frequent shooters, it makes a good bolt override tool with the addition of being attached to a basic Leatherman.

Nice tool, not for everyday use
by SilverSurfer (4 out of 5 stars)

This is a sturdy leatherman tool. It's definitely geared to maintaining weapons, so lacks some of the tools you'd want for everyday use, like a saw. The longer screwdriver bits come in handy for screws that are recessed in holes. It's very heavy. The pocket clip is so tight it's not usable. The pliers joint was so tight on one side I had to strain to close it. I took it apart, put some RemOil on it, and rotated it several hundred times to get it to move decently. Leatherman should offer some other tool choices for the things like the scraper which screws in. They should also incorporate the longer screwdriver bits in other multi-tools. For everyday, non-weapon use, I don't recommend it, (too heavy, not enough tools) but that's not what it was made for.

Excellent work by Leatherman

I am a long time user and collector of multi-tools and this one has everything I need in a multi-tool except for scissors, fingernail clippers and tweezers, but I carry those separately on a pocket knife so I am still covered and there is no more room for anything else anyway.

I have used brand G for many years as I preferred the single hand slide/flick open style, but with more and more of their stuff being made in china now and, in my opinion a lack of new innovative design and my last recent purchase of one of their high end multitools was of course made in China and a "more of the same design". I decided to try some Leatherman tools a few years back. My first Leatherman was the one that is the vise grip pliers and I was very impressed with the design, functionality and quality. I have since tried a few of their others and after a need for a tool to cover the specialty items the MUT addresses, I purchased one. I was concerned with the high price, but I do purchase quality knives and know that you pay a little more for good quality steel made in the USA and I am not disappointed at all with the price I paid.

I feel like I got my moneys worth in this tool. Every item that can wear out is replaceable in an inexpensive replacement kit (I ordered one just to have on hand). The quality is there for many years of hard use and there sheath is very well built and designed as well. The design and engineering of this product is phenomenal and I am very impressed that they could fit so much into such a small space. I have also ordered the add on 21 piece bit set and 1/4" bit adapter that fits in the pocket of the sheath.

The only negative I could find is it shipped so dirty that it appeared to be taken right off the milling machine and assembled without running it through a cleaning process. I had to oil it up to get the open and close action to work correctly and wipe it down with oil to clean it up and it really dirtied up a large cleaning rag. I didn't mark it down from 5 stars for this though as my last Buck/Tops knife came the same way. Maybe USA made knives and multipliers are so popular they don't have time to clean them up? PLEASE clean these up before shipping and they would be absolutely PERFECT. I can oil and clean my own knives if they build them with this quality.

I would recommend this for anyone that either needs a multiplier to work with their M4/AR rifle in the field or wants a heavy duty tool that does everything from needle nose and standard pliers, wire cutting/stripping, good knife blade and saw. And multiple M4/AR designed tools, a strap cutter and multiple tip screwdriver.

If you have ever had a bolt over jam on your M4/AR this tool will prove invaluable as there is not an easier way to remove the jamb on a hot bolt than using the bolt tool on the end of the MUT. Good work Leatherman!

another great leatherman
by Kyle W (5 out of 5 stars)

Leatherman continues to not disappoint with this piece. I use this personally for all my gun disassembly and cleaning needs. the pliers are great and can do more work than other Leatherman. the knife is excellent and the saw is as well. the carbon scraper actually came in handy and it does a great job of removing carbon I found on an old gun from my grandfather. the punch works great as well and does jobs great. the hammer and cutter work great as well along with the extra long bit drivers which are perfect for getting into tuff spots. the bits actually lock into place. the coating on the knife looks great but did tend to get on your hands but after wiping it down several times with a cloth the problem was solved. the sheath is amazing and made extremely well. the little tool it comes with is to adjust the sights on an ar-15 and it does work but other than that I found no use for it. it also has a slot on the back strap of the sheath for the tool to fit in as well. over all this is an amazing product and definitely worth looking into.

lotta tool for the money
by Silverfox Crafts (4 out of 5 stars)

it's a bit larger and thicker than I had expected initially, but that's the price of the saw blade I guess.

Haven't had it long, so here's the basics:

Pros:
~ blades come SHARP, barely touched my thumb on the serrations (slipped with the lock release) and it took a bite in.
~ the knife has a lock that prevents it from opening in pliers form.... but the saw does not.
~ Saw works decently, I tried it on a semi-dense piece of water-damaged molding I presumed to be oak, and it did a very decent job
~ comes with locks for the bits and the close of it in general
~ feels solid, if a bit heavy, and the belt clip makes it obvious it's not going anywhere easily without intent.
~ came with a nice material case, but I'll make a leather one later to let me carry my flashlight as well
~ came with some kinda forked closed end wrench thing... no idea WHAT it's for, I think it's for gun maintenance.

Cons:
~ opens a little TOO easily, but there's a lock for that.
~ at first I couldn't close it without the bit coming loose, but it appears the bit release wasn't set properly, just had to nudge the metal into the proper place, no trouble really.
~ the bit storage on one side is honestly difficult on smaller bits, not too terribly hard to get them in... but out.... another story. You might find yourself chasing runaway bits. But you don't really need it right off hand if you keep extra bits separate.
~ the clip is a little TOO secure in a way, I keep fearing it'll tear my belt before it comes off it. This isn't as much an issue if your belt is tight... but not all of us like a tight belt. I'll be making a leather pouch for it.

Overall so far:

I like it, it's a comfortable weight at my side, and it's served it's function thus far for the little use it's had to date.

Impressive and Solid Multi-Tool
by J. C. Little (5 out of 5 stars)
May 10, 2013

I, like many of you, have purchased many different multi-tools. Some last longer than others and up until now I was a Gerber baby. When I saw this tool I decided to switch teams.

What sold me? The hammer. I have broken several multi-tools trying to use what I thought were sturdy sections of the tool to hammer in stubborn parts on whatever I was working on. Seems a silly selling point, but just that little functional addition pushed me towards owning this.

The second piece of brilliance isn't specific to this tool, but this tool really is able to maximise the potential. The bit drivers. I never would have thought thin rectangular bits would be useful or durable, but again Leatherman made me a believer when I discovered this feature on their CX tool. The way the bits are interchanged, the unique way the compartments for the bits are set up....all of this impressed me. I purchased the bit driver assortment pack and have been wowed by how many different applications I can use this tool for now.

There are not a lot of features on this tool when you compare it to regular multi tools on the market. What this tool has is what is needed for its intended mission, which is to support feild maintenance on a weapon. I don't need twenty quadrillion hidden tools flaring each and every direction, and that was selling point number three. With its solid construction the MUT benefits from the less is more principle. You don't have to worry about a part breaking down or fumbling for what you need. Everything except the pliars is accessable from the closed position and you can feel how rugged every part of this tool is.

CONS:

I would prefer if Leatherman adopted the removable triangular wire-cutters that most military Gerbers have. That's just a gripe on my part, but it was nice to know that 1 part on my tool had 3 lifespans before needing replacement.

The small bit plastic holder on one side of the tool is way too tight. I feel like I am going to break the tabs when I try to remove the bit. I would like it if Leatherman substituded carbon fiber for the plastic, since carbon fiber has more lubricity and better strength.

it is one of the best multi-tools on the market
by Scho (4 out of 5 stars)

I have had this product for five years and I still use it every time I go into the bush. The only downside to the tool is the brass scraping attachment. It will break if you put to much pressure on it. Other than that, it is one of the best multi-tools on the market. Great for cleaning an any firearm. Coating is very rust resistant and the case holds up well over many years of extended use. I would recommend for all active people that require the use of a multi-tool.

Stellar Customer Service
by LARRY ROBERT JONES (5 out of 5 stars)

On 6/9/14 I ordered the MUT Tactical Multi-Tool from Wired Fox Technologies, but because I could not see anywhere in the product description that the Black Molle Sheath was included with the tool, I also placed an additional order with amazon.com for an additional expense total of $16.28 for the sheath. Upon receiving my order from From Wired Fox Technologies, I was shocked to see that the sheath was included with my MUT tool order. Upon learning about the unnecessary expense I incurred in purchasing a sheath separately (I provided them with a copy of the invoice), Wired Fox Technologies immediately issued a refund to my credit card for the $16.28.

Given this demonstration of their commitment to ensuring that their customers are happy, I recommend them to anybody and I will certainly by from them again.
