Definitely not safe to give to your pre-teens/teens for self protection

I bought three of these because they were well reviewed on multiple self-defense sites for their ability to deliver incapacitating shock in a small package. When writing this review, I'm assuming they are not counterfeit but are legitimately produced by Guard Dog (sort of uncertain on this one as the Guard Dog label was barely affixed to the item and fell off straight out of the package).

While I've not had the pleasure of using these on an actual human being, they make a nice spark and loud clicking noise when activated and seem like they'd probably get the job done. They are definitely light weight and fit easily in small hands. The reason for my 2-star rating is the shock activation mechanism. Activating the shock feature requires the sliding of a switch on the side and the depression of a button nearby, also on the side. Unfortunately, both are so easily accomplished that the simple act of sticking it into your pocket...purse...included sheath...often enables the slider. Once the slider is enabled all it takes is a very light touch on the button to set off the shock mechanism. I own a fair number of other stun gun devices and in every case the slide switch is located on the end of the unit and in a depression, making it very unlikely to accidentally activate the stun gun. These things, on the other hand, I've already accidentally activated it twice, just putting it into my pocket. The sliders on all three units are so loose they slide to the on position if you look at them funny.

These units are definitely not safe to give to your pre-teens/teens for self protection. I'm constantly afraid of accidentally shocking myself. I'm actually not sure how these are on the market in their current condition, seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen.

I would have given these a 1-star review but I decided on 2-star as I am keeping the units, I'm just using them on short dog walks and making sure I never put them in my pockets.

I am sorely disappointed. The description states "will stop any attacker." I got this as a gift for my future sister in law because I value her safety. After ensuring the product was fully charged, I tested it on my finger and to my surprise, the zap was less than that of static electricity discharge from wearing socks on carpet. To really put it to the test, I had her zap my carotid artery and I barely felt the zap. This is a cheap product that WILL NOT STOP an attacker. BUYER BEWARE!!!!

I received the Hornet 2 since the Hornet 1 was not in stock as advertised. Ok cool. An upgraded model. First problem-no instructions on paper or online. No charging indicator at all. It plugs in but I don't know if it is charging. I called customer service and got some random guy telling me not to worry, it's charging and if it doesn't work they'll replace it. Kind of a dangerous risk to take since I'm using this for protection! The safety switch must be on to use the flashlight as well as the taser. This sucks because the flashlight and taser buttons are the same size and right next time each other so you can wind up tazing instead of using the flashlight. Only the taser part should be on a safety switch. The alarm feature is nice. The holster is useless as it is too tight and I worry I'll taze myself or set off the alarm while putting it in the holster. Also you cannot use the device at all with the holster on, because the sides cover the buttons so in an emergency this would be useless. Nice idea, lousy design and support. Seems like an unfinished product. I'm unhappy I wasted $18 on something that may or may not protect me.

I wouldn't recommend. First it arrived with some stick resedo that then turned black bc it attracted dirt in my purse. Then it ran out of charge and would taze after me NOT using it for this whole time, which doesn't make sense. Then I slightly throw my keys on my desk and this happens which I think is extremely dangerous. Order something else bc for the price it's not worth it or the time you'd waste returning it.

I purchased 4 one of them malfunctioned and shocked me by just pressing the on button burned my thumb it shocked me for 10 long painful seconds I forced myself to drop the device a 3rd device wouldn't charge properly and would turn on and off

Well made, compact, easy to conceal. I read reviews and glad I decided to buy anyways. This is ONLY to keep someone away. Not to have anyone fall to the ground like you see on that show Cops. They use tazer GUNS. This is not that. I'm hoping I won't have to use it. I didn't have to test it. Turning it on was enough. The loud ZAP made my mother and I both jump. Very unexpected that something that small could be so loud.

Scary bark not much bite.

The bark is more powerful than the bite. The sound is loud and terrifying if you are not expecting it and would probably scare away a attacker without even using it on them. Unfortunately if you do use the tazer it hurts but would probably just make them very mad. It is very unlikely to incapacitate anyone unless you get lucky and hit them in a very sensitive area.

Works well but recharge didnt work

I ordered this keychain and it came in. It worked really well (the flashlight waa bright, the tazer had an intimidating sound and sparks could be visually seen) but the battery wouldn't recharge for some reason. I let the seller know and asked if the product could be replaced. I sent them what I had and what I received from them was the upgraded Guard dog keychain II! That was really nice of them to do, so I am giving this 4 stars. Will change to 5 stars if the recharge will work on the product I received from the seller. Hopefully won't have to use this tonight, but it's new years so who knows- glad it came today though lol. Stay safe everyone, Happy New years!
