I love the look of this, however...

The look of this, the retroness of it, and all the mechanical things of this makes a great clock. HOWEVER, this thing is SO loud!

I had to stick this somewhere far away from anywhere I sit, or sleep.

It's not the ticking, but it's the constant, irregular plastic gears rolling (not ticking, but rolling) sound that usually will drive anybody crazy.

Also, whenever it gets to 53 minutes or so, it flips the hour time to the next hour, which really confused me for a while, until I figured out that it was happening. I'm pretty sure there is a way to control this. There are some mechanical stop element rod on hour flip side that I'm sure there is a way to adjust this. I just don't know how.

I put this on my kitchen and it looks amazing. So, if this thing was quiet, I'm pretty sure they can charge twice as much, and I would probably pay more for it. It's really an awesome way to show the time. Very unique and adds interest to wherever you put it.

EDIT: I'm adding one more star, because:
1. my cat knocked this down to a hard marble floor and all of the pieces with numbers came off. I thought that was it, but everything works still, and it was easy to put the numbers back on.
2. I finally figured out what that little piece of metal hook was. That hook is there to hold the hour flip, so it synchronize with the minute flips. Now the hours don't flip until after 59 minutes.

However, it's still loud. It's not ticking, it's not clicking, but it's this constant, uncoordinated irritable sound.

It's not a very pleasing sound.

+Unique, vintage look
+Big numbers, can read from across the room
+I can't read the other kind of clock so I love the numbers, lol ;)
-Kind of cheap materials, the metal is actually just metal-painted plastic, but you can only tell that if you're holding it, so I don't care too much about that.
-Some people might find the noise a negative, but we've never minded it, and we keep it right in our living/ dining room, where we always are. It's a constant, fast ticking, so you have to decide if you would go crazy with that or not. There have been a few times when I noticed it; I put on some music and it was fine.

I put the clock in the waiting room of a small law office. it looks great.

the prior reviews about the noise caused by the flip down numbers and gears is true. you can hear every time the minute changes. you can also hear the gears grinding inside the clock. these are all non-issues for me.

it uses a 1D battery. time adjustment is located on the right side --on the minute side of the clock--and its pretty easy to adjust.

Retro Chic for the office

Very cool look in a retro/quasi steam punk way. As a person who is awful at time management, having this on my desk loudly flipping through the minutes is a good reminder and the size allows for easy visibility across the room. During meetings, this is at the foot of a long conference table and maintains everyone's time awareness and encourages brevity.
The noise of the gears is a bit grating but tolerable amongst the work place din - definitely wouldn't be able to tolerate at the bedside.

I've had this clock for about 3 years now and I've never had any issues. It's been using the same battery the whole time, never been "off" time, and always gets attention from my house guests. LOVE IT. 100% worth the purchase. You can hardly hear it when the air or heat is running in your home either, and when it's silent you're lucky to hear a hum coming from it.

So I don't have a problem with the sound at all as done other reviewers mentioned but the item I was sent is different than the item pictured on Amazon and on the box. There seems to be two models. One with a single round base and another with two round feet. I was sent the item with two feet.

It works fine, looks fine, but I would have preferred the one I thought I was getting.

Great Looking Clock

This clock is very sharp looking and works great. I've had it for nearly a month and the time is still perfect - haven't had to reset it.

My only complaint is that it runs quite loud. There's a constant humming, which can be annoying in a quiet room and the smack is a little loud. Other then that it's a great looking clock that I get many compliments on.

I do recommend this clock. It is not that loud. My biggest problem is that at about 58 minutes it switches to the next hours. So if I look over at the clock at 8:58 pm it appears as 9:58 pm. Not a huge deal where I have it located, but if I relied on it for a bedroom clock it could cause real anxiety some drowsy mornings. I bought this in 2013 and in 2016 the original battery is still chugging along.

works nicely, once you've set the time, I had a bunch of the top numbers fly off the spring when setting the time but after fixing a few of the number tiles to be set in their correct order no issues have arised since. also the numbers are very large that you can see across the room.

We had one that finally broke due to a guest dropping it. But we loved it so much that we not only obtained a replacement, but also purchased a 2nd as a gift. It keeps VERY accurate time (neither the old one or the replacement drifts over the months). It is quite the conversation starter, too.
