First, keep in mind that 1500 ladybugs is A LOT of ladybugs, haha. :)

First, keep in mind that 1500 ladybugs is A LOT of ladybugs, haha. :)

Every once in awhile, my hibiscus gets an aphid invasion. Normally, I notice and clip the buds and flowers off and the problem stays manageable. Recently, I didn't and those darn aphids got out of control, then ants discovered the aphids and all their wonderful honeydew and moved in. My poor hibiscus started to suffer and it was just a bit of a mess.

Enter ladybugs. I have a son who is almost 4 and I thought that these would be great entertainment for him, as well as help get rid of our problem. The ladybugs showed up quickly and we put them in the fridge to calm them down. Then, we waited until just before dusk and started to release them by cutting one of the corners of the mesh bag they came in. We wound up putting them all over all of our plants since our area is relatively small and there were quite a lot of these guys. My son loved the ladybugs crawling all over and then seeing them eating the aphids and anything else that was attacking some of our plants (we also have some mini rose bushes, a small lemon tree, a small orange tree, some mint, and some peppers).

Within days, my hibiscus started looking a lot healthier and started to sprout more green leaves and healthy buds! Thank you ladybugs for saving my plants! :)

I think it's also important to note that I don't think there was even one ladybug in the bag that didn't survive the journey. I let most of them just crawl out of the bag themselves and had none left behind.

Consistently on-time and alive.

I can't say that I've had much luck with getting the ladybugs to stick around for very long, but as far as the product provided is concerned, I can say that I've probably ordered these 3 times so far over the course of a year, and I don't think any of those times did any of the bags contain a single dead ladybug. In that sense, this is a safe bet if you're looking for lots of live ladies. If you want to help the chances of them sticking around for a while, consider buying or making a ladybug house for them and to attract other native beneficial insects. Do a search for 'ladybug house'. I haven't tried it yet myself but probably will next season.

I've probably spent half my income on amazon over the years and only recently started to contribute to the reviews that I depend on so much before making a purchase, for no reason other than helping others choose wisely.[...]

5/5 quality, cheaper, AND less work than spraying? SOLD.

Ordered them because Leaf Miners were doing some rough damage to my Spinach (and gaining a foothold elsewhere), and nature just wasn't providing the Ladybug immigration I required. My operation is large enough that washing everything 2-3 times a week isn't feasible, and small enough that this was the least expensive and least labor-intensive solution.

They arrived 100% alive. Literally not a single dead Ladybug in the mesh. Packaging was high quality.

As per instructions, I placed them in the refrigerator to wait for dusk release (about six hours), and misted the garden before deployment.

And they WENT TO WORK. Ooooooh baby did they go to work. A few of them flapped off into the sunset, but the majority stayed. Of those that stayed, the majority went right for food (in the form of Leaf Miner and Moth eggs) or water, and some didn't even make it off the mesh before they started gettin' bizzay.

Releasing them was a blast - which is irrelevant to the product other than it's a lot more fun to dab ladybugs onto infested plants than it is to wear a respirator and spray them. Cheaper, too.

Putting out a saucer of water (with pebbles to walk on) and building a house for these little guys and gals first thing tomorrow morning (which admittedly I should have done at the start of the season, but I've never had this issue before).

The instructions say dawn or dusk release. I've read that dusk is better because they won't migrate in the dark. Whether that's correct and boosted the stay rate or it was just the food/water I have available, I don't know; but they arrived 100% alive, most stayed, and feeding and reproduction began immediately.
5/5 across the board.

That didn't work out so well.

Hm. Maybe I didn't yet have enough aphids for my ladybugs to remain in my yard? There was no sign of them by the next day. Not a single one. If I waited until my crepe myrtles were completely infested with aphids, well, the trees would already be ruined for the year. I see that this seller has some kind of food to put on the plants before you release the ladybugs, to keep them in your yard, so I wish I would have known about that beforehand. Also, the instructions said to refrigerate the bugs until you are ready to release them. I did that, but I made the mistake of letting them warm up - and perk up - before opening the bag the next day. The instructions did not say to release them when they were still asleep from the cold. They went nuts, swarming up my arms and neck. I just started frantically dancing around the yard trying to shake them off while also trying not to stomp all over them. Over all, it was a, um, learning experience, I guess. User error plus lack of instructions. Hope my neighbors are all benefitting from my ladybugs.

Lady bug release party
by Robbie (5 out of 5 stars)
August 19, 2016

I have purchased lady bugs from my local feed store in the past. Usually I have about 50 dead lady bugs out of 500. I purchased 3000 lady bugs (2 packages of 1,500) I only had 5 lady bugs that didn't make it and I might have done it while opening the package. These are wonderful and very friendly bugs. We had a lady release party and it was a blast. I will be a returning customer very soon.

Arrived alive and ready to eat

Very happy with this purchase.

When they arrived on the front porch, it was really pouring outside, so the first place they went was my refrigerator. About an hour later, the rain was done, so I released them.

The packing material made it easy to spread them out among each of my planters and beneath a heavily invested 2 year old cherry tree (pictured).

The photos are taken about 4 hours after release. Many are chowing down, some are just grouping together in various hiding places.

Pros: They've gotten a great start after only a few hours.

Cons: Over half left already, no guarantee that they'll stick around long term.

After a veritable ladybug Roman style party our plants are covered in beautiful yellow egg clusters
by Amazon Customer (5 out of 5 stars)

We have a 6x4 asparagus bed we let grow out at the end of each season because it becomes an absolute ladybug bacchanal. The tips become covered in white flies and aphids dripping sugary sap all over the ground. We already had a couple hundred ladybug larvae gorging and pupating but wanted many more. After a veritable ladybug Roman style party our plants are covered in beautiful yellow egg clusters. Maybe 10% of the ladybugs eventually stayed (we had a hot spell in the hundreds) but what all the others left behind were gobs of eggs and larvae.

I did not find a single dead ladybug in my delivery, I received a bag full of busy little beetles that I let out in the evening a while after the sun dropped and they went to work.

I will use them next year.

Exceeded my expectations and ALL OF THEM arrived alive!
by DJ (5 out of 5 stars)

I was super excited to see these little guys arrive and to be home for it. My fear was that they would sit outside in their box all day in the heat. Keep an eye on your delivery date and try to be home or have a neighbor look out for them to arrive. They come in a box with holes and there is a cotton ball in the mix which I believe had water at one time. They have been in transit for a few days as I monitored the shipment date. I added some water to the cotton ball through the mesh packet and to my relief they went nuts and crawled all over that ball to drink up. Poor little fellas are thirsty. A few days to get to my place isn't long but glad they all made it alive. For now they all seem to be alive. I will be releasing them tonight as the instructions state with a light mist of water on my plants. I hope they find enough bugs to eat and stick around. I've had a white flie infestation on my flowering plants. I'll post more photos once released. For now I'm super pleased with how they were shipped and arrived. Will definitely be ordering from here again.

Ok back to add more to my review. Just released them which was so hard to wait to do when they arrived but as the directions clearly state best to do it at night when it's cool. I misted my plants and gently shook the bag so when I cut it open they had al fallen to the bottom. Gently shook them on all my plants and left the packing on one plant and then turned the bag upright with the opening up top and left it in a ola t since some of them want to stay in the bag. They crawl out once the bag is upright since they don't seem to like being at the bottom. I was shocked to see all of them alive. Not one dead lady bug! They seem to be finding food and water so far and because of the cool evening air they will stay the night. Hoping enough of them stick around once it gets warm tomorrow. Either way I'm very pleased with this purchase and anyone who says they flew away isn't following the directions or doesn't have enough bugs for them to feast on in their garden.

They even work INDOORS!!!
by Crystal W. (5 out of 5 stars)

I have the worst aphid infestation I've ever seen and guess where it is? IN MY HOME HYDROPONICS UPSTAIRS. I decided to try hydroponic strawberries this year so that I can avoid bugs and quite honestly, the bugs have been worse in my house than outside. That is, until a few weeks ago....

I bought 1,500 and let about 200 loose in my room upstairs and sealed the door shut. I released them after the lights went out and after misting my plants as instructed. The ladybugs wenr to town right away...on each other. Guess new adventures are a turn on. They quickly began taking care of the pest problem. I let another 100 loose during the week. A few weeks later, I'm nearly aphid free and I have lots of lady bugs still alive with a few babies now.

As for the rest of the ladybugs, I released them all in my greenhouse 3 weeks ago. I went outside today and noticed my tomato plants were pristine. I turned around to my dying cucumbers to be horrified by hundreds of tiny black bugs with red spots... There were so many, I freaked out a bit, but at closer inspection, these were ALL ladybug babies. They've been busy. I may not be able to save the cucumbers, but they've been heroes protecting the tomatoes and other veggies.

I've learned a lot about ladybugs and really think they've done a great job combating my situation. I HIGHLY recommend them -- even indoors!! Not a single one has gotten loose in the house except in the aphid party room.
