Got leaks? Try the provided troubleshooting tips. This is a great storage solution.
by Regina (5 out of 5 stars)
December 26, 2017

So I plan to hit the road full time in a few months, and as a small framed woman, I was looking for a quality water storage solution that wouldn't be to heavy for me. This item meets that requirement, and another thing I really like is that it fits perfectly behind the driver's seat of my Tacoma access cab. So I planned on buying at least two and stacking my water that way.

But like others have mentioned, it leaked really badly! I was really disappointed. I went to the manufacturer's website to look for troubleshooting tips as well as warranty information. They provided tips to mitigate leaking, such as ensuring the gasket was in the proper position (which mine was not). I repositioned properly, and the leaking was significantly reduced, but not eliminated. They said that if that happens, to try applying a teeny bit of cooking oil on the rim and threads (if I recall correctly). So I did that, and no more leaking at all. It is absolutely water tight. Yay! Waterbrick International states that if none of those solutions work, to give them a jingle for further assistance. They stand behind their products, and I don't doubt that they will help you and make sure you are satisfied if you happen to get a unit that won't stop leaking.

I ordered another one immediately (don't buy it for more than $19.99---Amazon is way overcharging) off a different website that was offering a free shipping code as well. Win. Do some googling and you'll find it...the website I used was Sp*rtsman's G**** ;)

I agree with other reviewers that the handle is a bit flimsy. But I can deal. It is otherwise extremely sturdy and is a great option if you are trying to maximize space like I am. I have no doubt that it will perform well for years to come.

fails to meet basic expectation of holding water without leaking
by Kurtis B (2 out of 5 stars)

Well, this was a little disappointing. I know the reviews said there was a problem with leaking. I took a chance and ordered one, hoping to find a quick/easy workaround that would make this otherwise good product, and make it usable. No such luck. A container designed to hold water should be capable of holding water without leaking -- and my unit failed to meet that basic expectation.

Leak details: The water comes out between the cap-gasket and the large opening that the cap fits onto. The core issue seems to be that the gasket doesn't properly cope with the flashing and other inconsistencies in the plastic. A little cleanup of that plastic and a softer and thicker gasket may have resolved this. I still plan to try and find one -- but at this cost per unit, it should simply work. .

Pros:
* Good moderate size
* The units may be stacked with some added stability due to the molded features
* You can put dowels or pipes between to help keep things upright

Cons:
* High cost per unit / gallon
* Leaks
* I'm not thrilled with how difficult it is to reach inside for cleaning due to those same pipe holes. (I knew about this limitation before purchase)
* It is difficult to completely pour out to empty. (I knew about this limitation before purchase)

Final verdict: If I can find a gasket that I can insert between the cap and the opening that adequately resolves the leaking issue, I may get more -- price dependent. Otherwise, no -- I'll have to keep looking for a suitable solution.

Best Water Storge System We've Found
by jeff catlin (5 out of 5 stars)

We have tried several water storage systems for our guide service in Oregon, see our website at [...]. The WaterBircks turned out to be the solution we were looking for. We use WaterBricks for camping, emergency water storage at home, and they even make great ballast weights for our canoes.

We love the handles which make them easy to carry, and the 3.5 gallon size make them lighter and easier to carry than 5 gallon containers. The stackable design makes them awesome for storing in tight spaces, and the rectangular design makes them ideal for storing in the bottom of our canoes, where they also act as excellent ballast weights to adjust our boats trim.

WaterBrick 1833-0001 Stackable Water and Food Storage Container, 3.5 gal of Liquid, 27 lb of Dry Food Products, Blue

We live in Portland Oregon which is predicted to be at high earthquake risk, so we keep 40 filled WaterBricks in our basement for emergency water.

Marketed for water and food storage, but...
by Amaristella (2 out of 5 stars)

I bought two of these recently for emergency water storage. I pulled the first one out I was greeted by a CA Prop 65 warning for known carcinogens. I had purchased a couple of these previously so didn't read down the description this time figuring there was nothing additional I needed to know, but I do see now that it is marked with a tiny banner above the product description. Wish I had seen that and wish I had some sort of explanation. The plastic is supposed to be HDPE and pretty decent for food and water, but where is the warning coming from? Something in the handle that won't contact the water? Something in the lid that will contact the water?????

Now I have to try and figure out the reason for this warning before I can decide if I want to return them or not.

Great For Storing Various PH Water For My Bonsai Collection
by Don Tony (5 out of 5 stars)
December 6, 2015

I use these somewhat differently than others. I have nine bonsai trees in my home, ranging from a Tamarind to Bahama Berry. Most of my trees accept water with a PH of 6.0 to 6.5. However a tree like Bahama Berry needs 7.0 and my Tamarind prefers 5.5. I am always preparing different PH water for these trees. I came up with the idea of purchasing a few of the Waterbricks. I also picked up chalk markers and stickers as well as the spigot that is sold for this item.

Now I have four Waterbricks, each filled with different PH level waters: 5.5, 6.2 x 2, and 7.0. Now when I want to water certain trees, I just use the water from the Waterbrick. It allows me to make 3 1/2 gallons of water which will last me about 2 weeks for my trees. It really beats having to prepare water almost everyday.

The product itself is solid. And they do not leak when placed on its side, even with the spigot attached. I am very satisfied with this product. I know I utilize it somewhat differently compared to others. However maybe some out there that have bonsai or plants that need different PH level water may consider this idea. It really makes things easier for me.

Useful item with superior customer service.
by rfdancer (5 out of 5 stars)

I purchased one WaterBrick (as oposed to a batch) to try out after I read a review that said the WaterBrick leaked. When I received the WaterBrick I filled it and left it on it's side in the tub to see if it would leak for me and it did. I complained (something I'm good at) and I received a call from the company the next day. They offered to do whatever was needed to make me happy (new product or refund) and then gave me some hints for using it properly.

This time I took the handle off before putting the cap on and it sealed just fine. I think that for me (I have large hands) the handle gets in the way of tightening the lid properly but if you take it off before sealing it you should be just fine.

I'm extremely happy with the customer service from WaterBrick and I really like the product (now that I know it works). It's a very heavy duty plastic of good quality that satisfies my needs very well.

I will be buying more.

Super-durable, just the right size for camping
by K. Cousins (5 out of 5 stars)
July 19, 2013

We took a waterbrick with us on a 5K mi camping/road trip through the American West. It's large enough to carry 2-3 days of water without being so heavy that one person strains themselves carrying it.

I threaded a strap through the center holes and around either end, for easier carry (see customer-submitted pic). We found it was a pain to switch the cap for the tap, otherwise. Also, it offers a range of carry options, including one person on either end. We also found that keeping the tap in a sealed camp mug/bowl kept it clean and uncrushed. Good place to keep the cap when the tap's on, too.

Overall, very well-designed and solidly made. As our emergency kit water containers need replaced, we'll likely swap them for waterbricks.

Not a bad water bottle, but there are some flaws
by Josh Bates (4 out of 5 stars)
March 20, 2019

Great heavy duty water bottle that I last a long time. The handles comfortable it's easy to pick up their script all over the bottle and obviously these stack really nicely.

But these have some flaws. One of the biggest flaws that I found right away is that the lid is recessed and the sides go above it so when you try and pour out the water you end up with water left behind. The rough texture is great for holding and grabbing this when you don't want to use the handle but makes it much more difficult to clean it if it was to get dirty and mine has. Without the spigot it is very difficult to poor the filled to the top container without spilling some. In the middle handle has already started oxidizing and tarnishing badly. You will probably have that fail before the plastic has deteriorated.

But I'm happy with my purchase it is quality made heavy duty holds a lot of water easy to store easy to carry and will last for a long time

Great containter with just a couple of flaws.
by W. Cintron (4 out of 5 stars)
December 3, 2016

Very effective at storing water in a man-portable weight, and they stack together lego style very securely. One flaw is it seems the company has a small quality control problem with thin spots developing in the walls of the unit during production, especially on the columns in the middle (the hollow spots in the product image). Two of my four containers had a thin spot in an identical place, one of which was bad enough it had to be replaced.

For moving water, I found having a simple jiggle siphon handy was useful for getting all of the water out to use. I use this Super Easy Siphon: Super Easy Siphon (1)

Getting all the water out without a siphon tube of some kind is a little tricky, but can be done by rocking the water brick around, it's just not very accurate since the cap is something like 4 inches wide. If you need to fill a gallon or smaller bottle, you'll need a siphon tube.
