The first thing I noticed was that I didn't feel like the space was getting very warm
by Desiree N. (1 out of 5 stars)

I bought this heater to warm up my insulated, one car garage, for my dogs when I'm gone during the day. The first thing I noticed was that I didn't feel like the space was getting very warm, but I didn't have a thermometer in the garage at that time and when I would get home it would be turned off and a loud buzzing noise would be happening. Came to find out even though I wasn't using it on the high setting and it was several feet from the wall it was overheating and turning off. This heater has a one year warranty and so I've had it replaced now. It took a month to get something to heat my garage and that's not very convenient in the month of December and January. I have now been running my replacement heater on max at the 4th setting for 4 hours as a test and the temperature has increased from 50 to 60 degrees. (I now have a thermometer to confirm.) While I was waiting for the replacement, I eventually borrowed a heater from someone, and when ruining that heater on medium the temperature would increase to 70 degrees. I am not happy with this purchase.

!!! DANGEROUS PRODUCT !!!
by Idaho dude (1 out of 5 stars)

THIS IS AN UNSAFE PRODUCT!!!!

I put it in the bedroom and plugged it in, then set it on "max" and "2". Everything seemed fine, although there was a strong "new electronics" smell as it heated up. It did a good job of heating the small room in a few hours. Went to sleep but was awoken in the middle of the night by the smell of melting plastic, so I unplugged the unit. The electrical cord was VERY warm to the touch, as was the plug. The next morning I noticed that plug had melted. The plug had deformed and the prongs were misaligned. A melted plug is no bueno. This very possibly could have caused a fire in the bedroom as we slept. I'm glad we woke up to the smell of melting plastic instead of burning plastic.

Bottom half burned out at 14 months
by Ingraham Fam (1 out of 5 stars)

Used this heater in my bedroom as it is the farthest room from the furnace.

The bottom half of the heater has burned out just 2 months after the 1 year warranty expired.

Its total time being in use was only about 7 months, very disappointed.

Only the top half of the heater gets warm, even on Max and high thermostat settings.

****SECOND UPDATE*** its now freezing out and this heater is still great it's nicer in the coop than it is in my house just ordered my back up!!!
****UPDATE****Its been one month and the heater is amazing in my chicken coop they love it and I love it. It very powerful I only have to run it very low.

I have bantam chickens and I live in Massachusetts. Two things that do not go well together. My chicken coop is 6x10 and I was using three heat lamps and it's only October.my chickens were still cold at night time. And I was worried about them through the winter. I've been looking for a heater to put into my coop and I wanted to make sure that it would be safe for my chickens. With three heat lamps it was getting to be about 40° in the coop at night time and this is too cold for my chickens. With this heater on low it is about 80° in there. I love this heater I mounted on the wall of the chicken coop and they all sit near it but the coop is more than warm enough and now I have peace of mind. It's plugged into a regular outlet and I ran it on high and it worked fine. This heater is great and I love it. I will be suggesting this heater to anyone that wants to heat their chicken coop including my parents that have much larger chicken coops. I'm sure this would heat at home just fine as well but from what I need it for and for the price that I paid for it, it's an unbelievable deal. I will be ordering at least two more for my home and for a back up for the coop.

PROVEN reliability!
by Lenny S (5 out of 5 stars)
January 26, 2018

I bought this heater to replace another DeLonghi HMP1500 Mica Panel Heater that I had purchased on Amazon and had provided reliable year round service for the last 11 years. THAT IS CORRECT! My last DeLonghi Mica Panel lasted 11 years!!! (power cable finally became frayed and resulted in damage to the heaters' PC board)

The only problem I ever had concerned the casters and their somewhat flimsy nature. If you accidentally kicked the unit or banged it while moving, they tended to break off with very little force. (super glue saved me more than once)

The new unit is almost identical to my 11 year old one. Slightly different cosmetics including larger control dials (larger but HARDER to actually "see" what number you are on) , a longer power cord (!!) and sturdier wheel assemblies. It also as a "non freeze" setting you can use for cold storage units where you don't want to heat them but cant let them freeze.

The one truly new design feature I do not like is the status light indicator. On the old unit it would light when first turned on, but go OFF when the heater finished cycling to the desired temp, then click on and light up once again when it was heating. It made it much easier to visually confirm it was operating. (if you worry about such things) The way it works now is, the red light is ALWAYS ON when the unit is on. Obviously this was done for safety, so you wouldn't leave your heater on by accident, not seeing a light and thinking it was OFF when in fact it was still ON but just not cycling. (got that?)

Bottom line: These are great heaters. While not heating a room quickly, they Do work well for CLOSED rooms. Putting one of these in your open living room would be waste, it just wouldn't put out enough heat to make much of a difference. However, if you have a closed off room of any type (I use mine in a large bedroom and home theater) it will heat it and maintain that heat reliably. Since it is not fan driven, the heat pattern first goes UP, then spreads thru your room until the warmer air begins to fall and is replaced with fresh hot air, etc. Within an hour the entire room is comfy and the thermostat, when used as directed in the manual, will work perfectly. The only way you can KNOW it is working it is feel for heat, or listen for the rather noticeable "click" sound when the unit cycles. I was worried the thermostat was not working at first, but after a few hours of testing, it proved to be working just fine.

About the smell: THESE NEED SOME SERIOUS OFFGASSING TIME before your first indoor use. I assembled mine (no tools required) and placed it on the back patio and as directed in the manual I cranked it all the way up on both dials. I checked it every half hour, to make sure power cord and outlet was not overheating. The smell was HORRENDOUS and this was OUTSIDE in a windstorm yesterday! HA HA The paint hasn't fully cured on these units and that is what is offgassing. Nasty stuff, you DO NOT want this in your home. The manual suggests 2 hours of offgassing at a minimum. I needed the heater yesterday, having done without heat for 2 days but I had some patience and gave it a good FOUR HOURS of full offgassing. By the time I had it in the house, almost all the smell was gone. I got a small amount of it the first time I used it in here, but this morning it was not detectable.

ONE LAST WORD: You could do a LOT worse than this unit. While the 11 year lifespan of my previous model shouldn't be taken as the norm, it does say quite a bit about their design. I live up in the high desert and it gets mighty COLD here at night and in the mornings The new version seems to be manufactured to an even higher standard and so far I am very satisfied. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !

Defective heater
by Michael Kelly (1 out of 5 stars)

I ordered this heater to use in a chilly family room. It arrived, I plugged it in, it made a buzzing noise that wouldn't stop and would not turn on again. I contacted Delonghi explained my situation to them. They acted like I bought this heater earlier then I did and required me to send them all kinds of documentation to prove I had just punched it a week prior. The people who are helping you do not know what they are talking about. They asked me for a serial number that ended in letters. Nowhere on my heater could find any numbers that ended in letters. Then I had to take pictures of the heater and all the shipping labels and send them to them. I had to call them at least six times to get any satisfaction. After finally convincing them I wasn't a thief and I wasn't trying to pull a fast one on them they finally agreed to send me a new heater. But, only after having to send them a picture of me cutting the power cord off the defective heater. Today I received my new heater. I plugged it in. It started to work, after about two minutes it shut down and again developed the same buzzing noise. I just sent them an e-mail requesting a full refund. Haven't had a response as of yet. Please do not buy this heater. One might be an a defect in the manufacturing process. Two tells me that this heater is one of a bad batch or that the heater is junk. I'm reserving opinion. You decide.

Some Like it Hot!
by Paul C. (5 out of 5 stars)

The panel heater puts out a gentle and quiet heat. I measured the power draw with a digital watt meter reading 930 watts on low and 1735 on the high setting. Using an IR camera I found that on the low setting only the top half of the panel was in use. When switched to high both the top and bottom heat up. The power switch feels good under the hand with positive clicks for off, low, and high. There is a thermostat which will cycle the heat on and off as needed. In my 75 degree room the panel came on at about the 1.5 setting on a scale of 6.

The legs and wheels have to be connected to the bottom with some screw-on thumb screws which are provided. For the first ten to twenty minutes there was a slight odor from the unit as it burned off the factory coating. Four hours later and I can detect no further odor. Using a laser thermometer I measure 270 to 350 degrees across the front of the panel though the safety grating. I tipped the panel to confirm that the tip-over safety switch did function as expected.

This is a big well built unit and seems like it's going to last for me. I'm using it under a desk to warm my legs and from a couple of feet away the heat is nice and gentle.

Buyer beware: This is a spot heater, not a true space heater!
by Peter (2 out of 5 stars)

I have a small TV room in my basement that's about 160 square feet with radiant baseboard heat. I had previously been using a Lasko 754200 ceramic heater, which did a great job of warming up the room a couple of degrees. But the noise of the fan always competed with the TV. I had high hopes for this fanless heater but have been disappointed with its overall heating performance.

PROS: The DeLonghi heater is definitely one of the quietest heaters out there (except for the hum of the transformer, which you only notice when you are close to the unit). It's very well-designed and the wall-mounting option is a great feature. It has a tip-over feature that shuts the unit down if it is knocked over. It also generates heat very quickly after turning it on. The wheels allow you to move the heater around easily.

CONS: Because the heater does not have a fan, it transfers heat to the surroundings mostly through radiation. This means you need to be in relatively close proximity to the heater in order to feel the warmth. Once you get more than 4-5 feet away from the heater, you won't feel any immediate warmth. Beyond it's function as a spot heater, it's ability to heat an entire room greatly depends on the air flow in the room. I've seen people suggest that if you really want to warm up an entire room, you'd could use a fan to help circulate the air and increase the heat transfer throughout the room. But if you're going to do that, you might as well buy a ceramic heater with a fan. You'll get the job done in a much, much smaller-size heater!

My biggest complaint is that the manufacturer's information on the Amazon product page is very misleading and doesn't match the information on the product box. If you read the product information here, you'd think you could reasonably warm up an entire room with consistent temperature throughout the room. But the product box specifically states this heater is used for instant spot heating, which means you need to be close to the heater to get the full benefits. I've had this thing running for over a day now and the overall temperature in the room is unaffected by it (well, maybe not unaffected since the room hasn't gotten colder!). I'd at least like to see a 1-degree rise in temperature in a 160-square-foot room from a relatively large heater.

So while the small Lasko ceramic heater could raise the temp in the room by a few degrees in under an hour, this DeLonghi heater runs for hours without a rise in room temperature. I don't necessarily fault the heater itself. It functions the way it's supposed to as a spot heater. I just think the manufacturer's information on the Amazon product page should reflect the real abilities of the heater, which are clearly stated on the product box.

Overheated after a few minutes.
by Rich The Limey (1 out of 5 stars)
November 14, 2016

I just purchased one of these heaters and after 10-15 minutes the thing started making a loud noise. Apparently it is some kind of overheating alarm. Very disappointed. I was very careful unpacking and assembling the unit, then switched it onto Low setting for about 10 minutes. I then increased it to High setting and after a few minutes this very loud screeching buzzer sounded... I almost jumped out of my skin!. I also noticed the heater seemed physically twisted - not a flat panel but evidently warped in some way. Also the actual heating panel in the unit seemed to be slightly bent. The attached photo at first sight may seem OK, however on closer inspection you will notice that it appears slightly twisted and also the heating plate inside is slightly bowed to the back in the center. Not sure if this is the cause of the issue, but I think I will be going for an oil filled one next time.

Stylish heating

People don't ever know what this is until I explain it is a heater. I love it. I suffered decades of noisy little blow heaters... This beauty soundlessly kicks out the heat when I don't want to heat the whole house.

Also, my dogs adore it!
