Coolest RTR car you can find right now
by Amazon Shopper (5 out of 5 stars)

I haven't driven this car yet because I am working on "crash proofing" a second body I bought. Going to use the body that came with this car as the shelf body. This is the fourth XO-1 I purchased so I am very familiar with the stock capability and even an upgraded bigger motor 8s setup. If you can find one for a good price pick one up and have fun. You are going to crash it so don't buy it if you expect this thing to run 100 mph by just setting it on the street and going full throttle. It will take time to learn and a lot of space in order to drive it to its limit. Visit the Traxxas.com forums for more info about the car. All the info you need is there.

Note: You will need to buy a LIPO charger to charge the batteries and an Apple device to unlock the ESC so you can hit 100 mph.

WOW!!

This is one fantastic car. Out of the box it is CRAZY FAST!!! You do have to buy the EZPeak Plus 6 amp charger but it is an excellent unit and is worth every penny (around $80).

I bought my XO1 from Amazon Warehouse Deals for $767 - it came with a beat up box but the car was perfect. I feel I got a great deal - used ones are going for more than that.

PROS
- CRAZY FAST (did I say the already?) out of the box. I don't want or need it to go 100mph.
- Extremely well made - first time out I caught serious air (unintentionally) going over a storm drain and the front spoiler got slightly cracked.
- Sounds/looks awesome - this thing attracts attention
- Corners VERY well

CONS
- The body rattles because it rests on the chassis - that must be part of the design of this but it does make an annoying noise when going over less than perfect pavement

EDIT 9-11-2012 The body rattle eventually diminishes as the car breaks in. I hardly notice it now.
- You need to be a MATURE person with this car - you can do serious damage to yourself or others if it is used carelessly - I almost hit myself with it at speed the first time out - it could EASILY break your foot

Final comments

If you can afford it, buy it. Do not let all the Traxxas warnings stop you - I am a relative beginner and I have been having a blast with it because I use common sense - do not turn it hard when you are going fast (duh) - do not go straight towards immovable objects or living beings at speed (duh). I want to keep this thing a long time so I use my brain.

UPDATE 4-2-13 - The car has been great except for a few problems. The main power switch on the ESC went bad. I called Castle and they said to bypass it by shorting the two wires that go to it. That was an easy fix. Now I am having some strange problem with the receiver that causes the motor not to run. I'm sure it will get resolved. I do run the car in sandy parking lots here in the northeast USA so that might be part of the problem. The whole inside is covered with sand after a typical run. I try to keep it out of puddles becasuse that makes it an even worse mess to clean up and the motor is NOT waterproof.

UPDATE 6-21-13 - Turns out the ESC was going bad. I sent it back to Traxxas because that is the ONLY way to get a new one. I have been waiting 3 months for Castle to make some to be then shipped to Traxxas to then be shipped to me. Not the best support on this car. I may end up just buying another one (XO1) so I don't have to wait.

UPDATE 8-16-13 - Traxxas sent me a new ESC free of charge - I installed it and it turns out the motor was bad too. They replaced it for $130 and I am waiting for it in the mail. While I was waiting for the ESC, I bought another new XO1 direct from an ebay seller ($670). The bottom line is you need to avoid puddles and sand with this car at all costs. The salt from the sand will get into the ESC and motor and kill them.

I still would highly recommend this car - you will have a crazy amounts of fun with it.

Perspective from Revo 3.3, Slash Ultimate, Stampede 4x4, and HPI Baja 5sc

After Two Weeks
-First off, I would not have brought this item if it wasn't for 50% retail price drop that took it down from the thousands to about 650 shipped. I've been in the rc hobby for about 2 years and through out that time i've accumulated a quite number of RC cars and experience. I though it was time for an on road electric car giving the 100mph advertised speed completely made the sell.
-When I received the car it had a missing bolt that holds the motor in "gear mesh" or aligned properly to reduce grinding gears between the motor pinion gear and spur gear. How did I find out it was missing? Well, i had some batteries already charged and as soon and Amazon prime 2 day shipped it, I had it out the box and on the road in as little as 5min. As i went from its 50mph "locked speed limit" to a hard stop. I completely grinded gears. I noticed that the motor wiggled left and right which is stupied on traxxas giving i just paid a couple hundreds only to have a missing bolt. I called traxxas that day and they shipped me a Pinion Gear, Spur gear, and bolts for free. Even, though mines still worked fine and had minor grinding on the metal gears. Still, its their fault they forgot to bolt down the motor.
-After 1 week, the steering servo must of stripped from the inside because the wheels locked to the left and after taking it apart to reset my steering, it could not turn as sharp as it did. I have reason to believe there's a flaw in this cars steering because the little arm that's connected to the steering servo "pulls" to turn left and" pushes" to turn right. These servos turn about 180 degrees and mines on this occasion when the arm was pushing to turn right it completely went over 180 degrees which caused the wheel lock, which then caused the stripped servo when the servo was trying to pull the arm back to normal position. Anyways, i called traxxas and they again said this situation was odd and shipped me out a new servo.
-During that first week I realized that in order to go over the locked speed limit of 50mph, i had to use an apple device. I've never owned an apple device and i thought this kind of sucked huge cajones. So, i figured since the whole world and their dead great grand mothers have an iphone i would not have a problem with this. However, everybody seemed to have the newer iphone 5 which uses a smaller charger port and will not connect to the traxxas TQi 2.4ghz. Well, since I already spent 650 on the xo1 kit and 80 on the ezpeak charger and thousands on my other rc cars I couldnt complain. So, i brought a $30 ipod toch 2nd gen from ebay.
-IPOD. Yes you will need an apple device to unlock the 100mph speed limit. After buying my $30 ipod touch 2nd gen from ebay I fell in love with what traxxas had done with the traxxas link app. The feature that the app completely sold me was the training mode. My 2 year niece who loves the XO1 could now drive it. In training mode, you could set a percentage of how much power to use when pushing the throttle. Although he still does not understand the concept of turning and reversing, he had a blast driving it at 15% throttle power which moved as slow as a fast crawling baby.

Overall, its a hobby. If you think your gonna buy this and not every encounter problems then look into some other hobbies. Traxxas gave this and Expert rating of 10 out of 10 in terms of its user friendliness. Traxxas is not lying. Look up some youtube videos and see how most if not all of them is someone crashing their car into a million pieces. Going 100 mph is not just holding down the throttle in an open space. It requires a bit more skills such as prediction, evading, stopping, safety, and choosing the right road.

This is an amazing r/c car. I own several electric cars that run 50-70 mph, and that is still quite fast but, 100+ is scary (in a good way). The XO-1 is so high tech and well built and worth every penny. I'm glad I waited until the price came down. This will most certainly impress anyone that gets to watch it run. I highly recommend it to advanced drivers only!!

Wow this car is worth every penny. I am serious. If your going for speed and dont feel like building your own which could cost yoy hundreds maybe thousands you can pick this car up. I know it is still very expensive albeit but worth it. People your going to hate me for saying this but thete is no cheap route or alternative to getting to that speed either way it's going to cost you. I know I tried. I tried to build a cheap cheap car using budget generic parts and tried to go 100mpg I couldnt break 50 mph 44 was my top speed. nope ain't going happen you want speed your going to have to pay for it. Unfortunately I had to save every dollar I made to buy this Traxxas X0-1

And it's a beautiful car. Alot of research went into this this car.
