Decent audio

I bought this microphone to record rough song ideas and it's perfect for that. It's real simple to use. I use an ibanez acoustic and garage band on iPhone and it's a decent quality. There is a slight buzz or click in the background but I think it's caused by being plugged directly into the phone, I don't know. Check out my audio if you want a sample.

Couldn't return this fast enough.

This microphone serves one purpose: to provide enhanced recording quality for a smart phone. It does this well. The recording quality was noticeably better than my internal microphone. The stand that comes with it is pretty useful.

I bought this to use for recording myself playing the piano.

The major problems are:
1) about 1/3 of the recordings it made had some weird electronic distortion that makes them unusable. I made many recordings and checked the connection of the mic to make sure it wasn't just a bad connection. It wasn't. There were a few times when I played a piece the best I ever had and recorded it but the recording ended up being unusable so was lost. I never knew when this would happen. It seemed to have some psychic understanding of when a recording was very important to me. I would makes 5 or 6 recordings in a row of something I didn't care about just to make sure it was working. As soon as I recorded something I really did care about it would give me a garbled recording.
2) You cant just use this with any recording software. You have to use it with their recording software. It crashed many times (when it did crash it always did it as soon as I opened the app. I never had it crash during a recording). I used this on an android phone.
3) The recording app gives constant dialogs telling you to buy their other software. It doesn't ask about them all at once. When you dismiss a dialog a few seconds later another comes up telling you to buy a different piece of software. It doesn't just do this the first time you install and use the app. IT DOES IT EVERY TIME YOU OPEN THE APP TO USE IT. It generally took about 30 sec to a minute to get past them and be able to make a recording.
4) It only exports files as WAV or OGG. I was happy that it could export as WAV. The problem is it seems most android phones don't natively support WAV (which in itself is a separate annoyance that's not IK Multimaedia's fault). So I'd have to go to another app to convert it from WAV to MP3. Not horrible but it seems like it would have been easy enough for them to include the ability to export as MP3.

I was skeptical the iRig mic would help our old iPad 2's to record sound again but now everything is

Our ipad 2's still work but their mics stopped working reason unknown.

I read the IK Multimedia iRig Mic would work on them so I tried it.

Initially I did not goto itunes and download the free IK iRig app and the mic did not work but after downloading the app the iPads videos my kids made using the camera built into them now had sound on my son's iPad 2. My daughters iPad 2 mic also stopped working but the port needed to be cleaned. When we removed the iRig to hear sound on the video it read speakers plugged in. Apparently there was dust or dirt in the port and needed to clean it out with a K-tip dipped in some window cleaner. Now both iPad 2's have mics that record not only video but now sound again. I was skeptical the iRig mic would help our old iPad 2's to record sound again but now everything is good. Thank you iRig.

Be sure that the mic app is working with your OS and model of phone.

The mic is compact, however the audio quality it reports to have in their demo video is when you record through their app; which isn't updated and is difficult to use with your favorite recording program. The concept is great, they just need to support the mic use with other programs. The mic modeling is awesome, until you try to use it. If I could get the mic software to work with my iPhone and get it to sound like the mics it has in the modeling program, I would give this 10 stars, because it would be THAR GOOD, but if falls short of the advertising because of the issues with the necessary app.

mediocre device
by BenP (3 out of 5 stars)

Not the greatest. I'm shooting a course for udemy and they rejected the audio from irig mic cast. On the low setting it does help drown out some background noise but on high it picks up the majority of surrounding noise. Also it seems to have a constant low buzz when you are not talking. So if you are doing a lot of recordings in busy places then this can help drown out some of the background noise. If you need clear audio for recordings get something else.

This product has performed beyond my expectations
by stratus10601 (5 out of 5 stars)

This product has performed beyond my expectations, I own a BB Priv and they do not focus much on their internal recording microphone, so when I added this accessory to my phone and recorded at a live concert event the difference was huge, you could hear all the details of fhe song in a really loud enviroment, I was literally next to the speaker and it cancelled most of the background noise. This product is worth the money and more!!

Mediocre product hampered by aggressive in-app purchasing model. Buyer beware.

Really not very impressed with the software for this device. After paying $40 for the microphone, I feel like it's inappropriate to ask for another $8 to unlock the software so we don't have deal with all the in-app purchase ads that pop up in the middle of the screen and need a physical acknowledgement before you can keep going. I'll be returning this and counseling all my peers not to purchase from this brand.

Nifty Little Recorder for Podcasts & ENG Reporting
by Darjeeling101 (5 out of 5 stars)
December 6, 2016

Robust little recording unit that attaches to your cellphones 1/8" headphone jack. Surprisingly decent audio quality delivered in a data intensive WAV (read: broadcast worthy) format. Included software is smart enough to make basic edits on your phone for a clean sounding news piece or podcast entry. For the price you really can't beat the deliverables offered here.

A fun addition that adds some versatility to your iPhone
by Michael J. Vitale (5 out of 5 stars)

Adds a second polar pattern, I'm assuming iPhone mic's are Omni, and a sensitivity switch to your iPhone and it fits in in your pocket. My works great with my iPhone SE, no noise issues or distortion. Plosives can be an issue but that's normal for condenser mics and can be avoided with proper mic technique or a pop filter of some sort.

If you want to add a little bit of versatility to your iPhone mic for demos or anything this is definitely a fun little addition for not much money.

Can't use with an iPhone 7 since it doesn't have a port for microphones or earphones.
