We looked and looked for a Chiminea to put on the deck. I liked the aluminum body of the Blue Rooster to prevent rusting or rotting away in Pacific Northwest winters. How it holds up remains to be seen but I expect the body will be fine. The door is neither aluminum or stainless so it will rust if not kept painted. When mine arrived I found the door had a flaw in the screen where one of the wires was missing. I contacted Blue Rooster and they sent out instructions to measure the door for replacement. The new door arrived in short order but it doesn't fit right. The hinges are welded on incorrectly, but I've decided to fix them myself instead of getting a new one yet again. I was disappointed that for this price the Chiminea was made in China (might contribute to the QC problems I found). The grate is cast iron and appears to have warped a bit from the fire. It still works fine but I plan to store it inside for the winter so it doesn't rust.

How it works. I'm pretty happy with its performance, but a good bit more smoke comes out the door than I expected. Even the slightest bit of breeze brings smoke out the door. It's much better than sitting around a camp fire though. It gets hot!!! No surprise there but even a small fire makes a good bit of heat. The instructions say to build small fires for the first few to cure the paint. After a dozen uses mine still smells like hot paint. I expect to have to paint it every few years so I don't think this is an issue.

The unit comes with a small grate that can be used for grilling with the chimney removed. Its too small for more than just a couple burgers but I don't plan to use it anyway.

Only complaints really are the QC and it smokes more than I expected. Otherwise its a nice looking unit that I expect will last a long time.

Okay product, incorrect instructions, poor warranty

Item as described, prompt shipping, though carton condition upon arrival was VERY scary. Disappointing burning experience compared with a fire pit experience, but it will last longer than a fire pit (my old fire pit lasted 1.5 summers). Assembly was straight forward except for the door lock description which was totally wrong. They couldn't slip in a piece of paper with the correct instructions to update that part? Should offer an option for taller feet. I put mine on 5" blocks for better overall viewing and not killing my back to insert wood. Wish I had gotten one with a design as this one is too plain jane. Door seems loose and flimsy so we'll have to see how it holds up. Warranty should be much better for a product of this cost... same warranty as a $50 toaster oven. Would have also expected a lower cost considering its made in China. Their profit margin must be incredible. Biggest complaint: Very difficult to scoop out the ashes because the scooper hits the nuts holding in the feet. Very annoying.

Very prompt arrival time and well made. Love the durability of the cast iron. I would like for it to have been taller but we were able to put blocks together to make a platform for it. Pretty disappointed in the depth of the bottom. Fire basically falls out the front, whereas with my previous clay chiminea the belly was much deeper and could accommodate more wood. It's difficult to get even standard size prices of wood inside and so we have to cut the logs before burning.

Overall, it's just okay. Would be in love with it if it were bigger and deeper.

Delightful Chiminea, So Beautiful and Enjoyable

I have greatly enjoyed my chiminea for 3-1/2 years. It is such a delight to use almost every evening during Michigan spring and fall weather, 1 or 2 evenings a week in the summer, and even some winter evenings. It easily accommodates the many branches, large and small, that fall from my trees as well as small split logs. While some complain about the size, I find it to be perfect. I use it with confidence on my wood deck - no problems. It looks almost as good today as when i received it (i do cover it) and i only recently needed to replace the spark screen at the top of the chimney, which is a very hostile environment for a metal screen. I consider this one of the my nicest purchases - it's great for hosting friends or a quiet evening with a book, music, nature and/or beverage.

This is a great chiminea and my family loves it. We've burned a few fires already. It is a good gauge of cast aluminum, and the firebox has enough room for small to medium sized fuel. I like the wider mouth on this model. It is pleasant on the patio in the evenings with a nice fire that burns out in an hour or two. I bought the large cover from Blue Rooster, too, and it fits perfect with a drawstring bottom. The addition of the small fire poker was nice as well.

i really love this chimenea.... I has one like it previously. If I had to say a dislike I wish the legs were longer, so it would sit up higher.
