Speakers have short life
by Ryan (4 out of 5 stars)
June 10, 2013

These speakers died on my after 3 months of mild use. They just started emitting a popping sound and no longer function, I'll update this review based on my experience with Edifier customer service.

EDIT: I contacted edifier's US warranty service and they immediately sent out a new set of speakers citing that this model had a known defect. Within a week I received new speakers, no questions asked other than the serial number of my existing speakers, didn't even ask to get the old ones sent back.

The speakers themselves are great, sound is full and deep

The speakers themselves are great, sound is full and deep. But i have a problem with the reliability of the speakers. I have now owned two pairs of these speakers. The first pair started showing a problem after a few months of having them. The left speaker became very muffled and sounded like the speaker was dead. I contacted Edifier support and they sent me a new pair of speakers after explaining that there was a problem with a earlier production where the speakers could burn out . My second pair of speakers worked great, just like the first pair. But then again after a few months the left speaker died again, just like the first pair. By now its been over a year since i purchased them and my warranty has expired so i cant make a warranty claim. these speakers cost way to much to have this kind of bad reliability

Love them - perfect for my needs!
by jetames (5 out of 5 stars)

Love them! Absolutely perfect for my needs.

Not only are these speakers incredibly stylish, they function perfectly! NO issues whatsoever. The Bluetooth pairs instantly - no dropouts, no buzzing, no hiss, nothing but clean, pure audio.

I have the speakers placed left and right of my 27" computer monitor and they are a stunning addition to my somewhat cluttered desk top. The speakers are connected directly to my computer audio output - as well as pairing to any Bluetooth device. The sound quality is very acceptable for what is realistically, a very small speaker system - these speakers can achieve amazing SPL without distortion. However, I would recommend a sub-woofer to augment these speakers. Thoughtfully, there is a sub-woofer output for this speaker system.

I read that some buyers have had issues setting up the speaker system - I had none. In fact, I setup the system without problems and without reading the instruction manual. The speakers are CLEARLY marked as to which cable goes where and which speaker is the left and which speaker is the right speaker. The cables, with the exception of the 1/8" mini, are proprietary - making it virtually impossible to connect this system incorrectly...and again, all connections are very clearly marked.

Other buyers have complained that the rather clever remote control slips around on their table top. I've had no issues with the remote but it does take a little finesse to operate. A slight downward pressure is required to operate the remote precisely.

I paid a bit extra for the beautiful maroon color and very glad that I did.

I suspect that I have a later version of these speakers than the previous posters that experienced issues. I have had the speakers in daily operation for over 1 month and have experienced absolutely no issues...nada! Highly recommended speaker system, great sound and enjoyable - so far.

the remote control is an excellent touch, the sound is excellent when you play ...

I am returning these speakers. Its a shame to, they are handsome, the remote control is an excellent touch, the sound is excellent when you play at mid to high volume...
BUT when you play at low volume and listen to music as background, be it classical or as I do, Ambient pieces, with water chimes, soft gongs, flute etc., at low volume there is drop out, it appears from Google searching I have done they have a 'power' saving feature, any gap in the music or very low resonance of your music creates a 'pop' as the 'power' saver cuts the power and then powers back up or releases wattage to drive the speakers, what you get is a constant in and out popping, its very annoying and destroys the flow of the music.

Customer Service is great. - but product isn't.
by D.T. (2 out of 5 stars)

I ordered these speakers in September, it is now April, and they worked great until a month ago. The sound quality was great, they connected with by iPod perfectly. Then they started to make a hissing sound whether they were in use or not. If I unplug them for a while and plug them back in, I could get about 15 minutes without the hissing. I called Amazon for a return, and they told me that the warranty was with Edifier - They called Edifier for me and I talked to a representative, she couldn't have been more helpful. They are sending me out new speakers and a return label for the old ones - they did this without any credit card guarantee. I can't say enough nice things about the customer service of both Amazon and Edifier - any product can be defective - human error and all that - but as long as the company stands behind it and fixes the problem, that is all anyone can demand.

Here is the number Amazon gave me.

Downgraded review to two stars. Second speakers ended up having the same problem as the first - I gave up and replaced them with Audioengine A5+ - Much better product.

These speakers were OK, but I have had them for 1 year and 4 months and they just died. The power indicator still turns on, and they still pair over bluetooth to my devices, but they produce no sound whether over bluetooth or plugged in through aux.

Even when they did work I was a little disappointed with how distorted they got when they were turned up a little bit. If you are looking for a pair of speakers for a small room they are good. But if you expect to turn them up a bit and go into the next room I wouldn't recommend these speakers for the task. My girlfriends Bose Companion 3 2.1 system is much much better for turning up to hear through the entire house and for yard work near the house. These Edifier Spinnakers spent their life confined to my office.

Speakers non-functioning upon receipt. Replacement is effective
by A. Wright (3 out of 5 stars)
September 10, 2015

The left speaker I received (or somewhere along the connection to the left speaker) is busted so that it only provides some bass and a hint of tinny treble. This is quite disappointing after shelling out so much money on what should be decent quality speakers. I've requested a replacement and will update this review depending on the result, but the experience has been awful regardless, as I've had to spend a few hours reseating every single cable (they're not easy to plug in and unplug), switching out cables, switching out audio devices, and trying other speakers to make sure the product was truly broken, and now I have to carry this huge box down to a UPS drop-off to get it shipped back. Certainly not what I was expecting from $300 speakers.

Edit: bumping up review to 3 stars, as the speakers have served me well since receiving the replacement.

Brilliant - at last
by Tampen (4 out of 5 stars)

The bottom line:

A terrific pair of beautifully-designed Bluetooth speakers that suffered disastrous failures in early shipments. My second pair works fine.

The longer story:

I was looking for something stylish to go with modern furnishings in a living room, and I found nothing as striking as the Spinnakers, which turn boring black soundboxes into architectural sculptures.

They were easy to set up and worked perfectly - for a couple of months. Excellent sound at the low-to-medium volumes I prefer, easy to operate from an iPhone. I was really pleased. Then, one day, they simply stopped. The power was still on, the Bluetooth signal still turned to blue, but not a sound emerged. And there's no user-serviceable parts. I was completely baffled, then alarmed when I found several other reports of similar failures from other buyers.

I called Edifier. The lady couldn't have been more helpful, told me the fault was being corrected, and that a new shipment of second generation speakers would arrive in the US soon. She took down my details (this was early April) and promised that I would be sent a replacement pair by mid-May.

I didn't hear anything after that. She had promised me a confirmatory email but nothing arrived. I was beginning to wonder if I would have to chase them through Amazon when the doorbell rang. Mid-May had arrived, and with it a replacement pair of speakers. It took me 15 minutes to set them up; they are currently working perfectly.

Verdict: they undoubtedly hurt themselves by shipping an initial batch of faulty products, and my fingers are still partly crossed that the second set will prove more reliable. But I've got no complaints with the product, or the calm and comparatively efficient response to my problem. I'm very happy with the sound and the beauty of a pair of speakers like nothing else on the market.

fantastic speakers overall
by Andrew Walter Howard (5 out of 5 stars)

The design alone of these speakers was exactly what I was looking for. The fact that they sound great is icing on the cake. I'm sure there are better sounding speakers, but in my opinion they don't look this good. The build quality is also top notch. The outside of the speakers are covered in fabric (I got the burgundy version) and the base of each speaker is aluminum. The included dome remote is also all aluminum. These speakers are also very versatile in that you can add a sub woofer if they don't have enough bass for you. As they come they should have enough bass for most people though. The mids and highs all sound great to me. The speakers are clear and what I would describe as musical sounding. The bluetooth connection has worked great so far and it even works 2 rooms away and down a hallway. That's further than I thought it would work. The speakers could be a little louder. They fill a bedroom with sound and even shake the walls but in a large room or for a party they could use a boost. Overall I love these speakers and I hope to get years of enjoyment from them.

I didn't think they sounded very good. Wirecutter said they did
by Bob007 (2 out of 5 stars)

sent them back, I didn't think they sounded very good. Wirecutter said they did, I disagree. They do look cool but the cabling is difficult and they don't make input easy. Bluetooth worked but didn't sound very good.
