Cool, but beware of the value. Currently over-priced.

As others have said, these ice skulls are a clever alternative to the same ol' ice cube, and you'll hear a little "ooh" & "ahh" from your guests. ;) HOWEVER, since I have now used 2 of these molds several times, I can't really recommend them to others until the price comes down to $7 or less per mold. Oh, and if a customer buys two or more at the same time, customer should not be charged full shipping price per mold! ((cough, cough)). :/

In any case, I decided to go ahead and place my order because I kinda got caught up in the fact that these are a cool novelty item. Once you begin using them, however, you'll see why you shouldn't have paid this much for them. Keep in mind, there's a learning curve to these. After you've made about 4-5 of them (and wasted a few), you'll get the hang of it. However, even after you know what you're doing, approximately 1 in 3 skulls will split while you're removing them from the mold. This is not your fault, it's just the nature of the beast. But, keep in mind, you're only getting 1 frozen skull per mold, so it's a little frustrating when you wait for them to freeze, and then the skull splits when you remove it. Then you have to start over, and wait another 4 hours until it freezes. In the end, you probably won't use these molds quite as much as you had thought.

For these reasons, I would only recommend this item if the price is lowered to match its value.

Pretty cool and works well. Use 100ml or 1/2 cup for measurement

This mold is pretty straight forward. Works really well after you find out how much water to use. I found that 100ml or 1/2 cup is about the exact amount of water to use.

As for a clear ice cube, I haven't had good results but that has almost nothing to due with the mold itself and more to due with thermodynamics and the purity of the water you use along with cooling time. There are a quite a few variables and getting clear ice cubes is just a challenge no matter what mold you are using.

My advice if you want clear ice, research and experiment.

My opinion, it's a great and durable product that looks sweet in whatever you're drinking. For small drinks and short glasses I recommend that you use a fairly large cup with at lease a cup bottom diameter of 7cm or +/-3in. As for large 16oz glasses well... set the skull face up in the top of your drink, that way it'll always be looking up due to the iceberg effect.
*Tip* I noticed that if you don't seal it well enough then while it freezes the water will seep through the bottom/mouth area of the mold. I use a small velcro cable strap to wrap around the mouth and back of head to hold the 2 pieces together more firmly. A rubber band will work well too.

Great in concept

The idea is great, but it's entirely too big for a glass of scotch, the pattern is barely recognizable too. Not nearly as cool at what i thought it would be.

Nice item when it turns out right. If you don't put it back together perfectly, it will leak in the freezer.

Great.

Just one detail, when water freezes it expands, so you end up with a "pivot" on top of the skull... I guess is just about measuring how much water to pour in.
