  • WELL-DESIGNED: The SOCP 176 is a single-piece dagger with a finger ring at the end. This allows the user to maintain dexterity and handle other objects without putting down the knife.
  • ALWAYS READY: The 176's lightweight design and specialized, low-profile sheath ensure that your knife is always there when you need it. It's also MOLLE-compatible.
  • FOR TACTICAL USE: The SOCP 176's dagger blade style excels at puncturing, making it the optimal blade shape for self-defense.

Great knife with an imperfect - but fixable - sheath
by Amazon Customer (5 out of 5 stars)
September 22, 2016

Came on time and as promised. The SOCP dagger is exactly what I was looking for, but the sheath isn't quite perfect, but fixable (see below).
- Provides an incredibly quick draw that a folder or assisted can't seem to match (at least not with my limited skills).
- Sharp point but not a cutter; do not use for any regular knife type conveniences.
- If you think you need the trainer, you probably do. Get it. It helped me a ton without risking a serious injury, which for sure would have happened.
- Sheath is a bit bigger than I would've liked. Thickness is worse than length (no way to word that better); seems like Benchmade could've made it much thinner given how thin the blade is.
- Biggest weakness is that the clip on the sheath isn't tight enough to withstand the friction/tug it gets on a fast draw. Often the sheath would come out with the knife. Not good. To fix it, I wrapped a piece of ultra fine sandpaper around the blade and put it in the sheath a few times to essentially sand down the sheath just a tad from the inside. I put it at the widest point on the bade and maybe did three in/out moves. Seemed to wear down the worst friction point inside the sheath and now the knife comes out clean, but still stays put in the sheath. PROCEED WITH CAUTION IF YOU DO THIS; if I had done it much more, it would've been too much and then it would've been too loose.

Great knife if you understand its intended design.

When considering this dagger, one must understant the niche it was designed for. Self-defense, pure an simple. This is not an everyday use knife. The construction of the dagger is solid but the design itself would make general utility difficult. However, what it lacks in utility it more than makes up for in its designed function. It is sleek, easily manipulated, easily concealed, and when held properly limits the possibility of losing grip. The items I do not like about the knife are realitively easy to fix. I believe that the blade should be sharpened further up the blade and not just at the point. Also, the clip on mine is so tight it is difficult to attach to my pants easily. However, these are small complaints. Exactly what I was looking for and definitely could be a game changer if the need ever arises to need it. Great little knife. My first from Benchmade.

Sheath can be fixed. Picture of blade maybe not accurate.

When I first got this, when I would pull the knife from my jeans pocket the whole sheath would come with it. Not good.

So I bought a star bit set, then unscrewed the pocket clip screws. Threaded metal inserts are in the sheath, so you don't have to worry about wearing them out.

Once I got the clip separate, I hit it with a hammer against the edge of a table, just trying to get it flatter and tighter.

I screwed it back on, works great, even with running shorts.

Also, the picture of the blade might not be accurate. Mine was "sharp" almost all of the blade, not just the tip.

The blade didn't seem particularly sharp to me, so you may want to further sharpen or grind it down.

Sheath is a little bulky in the pocket (gotta wiggle to get wallet), but not terrible.

Seems like a great design, really accomplished their goal. Didn't really see anything that could beat it in terms of accessibility (while still being mostly subtle).

Greatest concealed blade ever made.

This product is truly excellent. Previously I have only carried SOG Tridents clipped to my pocket. I wanted a fixed blade, quick draw, concealed knife instead of a regular folder. The dagger and sheath are surprisingly lightweight and the craftsmanship of both are top quality. The trainer has changed my whole mindset on carrying blades. I had never trained striking with a knife before, only drawing and presenting the knife. Now on days I hit the heavy bag in my garage, I add an additional 3 rounds of practice with the SOCP. I practice drawing and striking with the knife from different positions and angles with either hand. I had my doubts initially about the shape of the dagger, the ring, and the sheath but those are all put to rest once you start working with the knife. The trainer is dull and rounded enough I can strike full force, sewing machine savage style, without damaging my heavy bag. The trainer is also heavier and shorter than the dagger so when you train with it you will be faster and penetrate deeper when carrying the actual blade. When training be warned that the metal is ribbed so it grips extremely well in bare hands or gloves BUT if you go too hard training with it it will chew up your fingers and hands. You can wash the whole setup with dish soap and wand after training, the sheath is made to drain water and it drys instantly. Please be advised that the picture of the product is not 100% accurate. The trainer is solid metal, not skeletonized and the dagger is the 2nd gen model that is a 1 sided half fine/serrated knife edge. I actually like the setup that came better than the one advertised.

Top quality blade and training aid
by Scot Angus (5 out of 5 stars)
September 2, 2019

Benchmade... 'nuff said. This isn't the kind of blade for regular use... it's purely a defensive edge, and hopefully, I never have to use it. That said... definitely practice with the training aid, because it's a bit uncomfortable to hold while the hand is preoccupied, so I hold it with middle finger through the loop in this scenario. If not holding anything else, then I would use index finger through the loop.

Good Idea but still needs work.
by R Davis (3 out of 5 stars)

It's a good idea for a self defence tool but the sheath clamp has a hard time holding on when I pull out the knife. Its my only complaint but its kind of a big one because if the clamp doesn't hold then I cant pull it out of its sheath. If the pants are thicker in the pockets seams, it seems to hold better. I hope they fix the issue so I can change my rating. I love Benchmade products and will buy more; I'm just going to be careful before I buy another knife with a sheath.

Great for easy every day carry
by Emilianna (5 out of 5 stars)
January 16, 2019

Benchmade quality, very easy to carry I hardly notice it's there. This is a great substitute for an everyday carry for certain situations. Clip is solid grips very well, I can run in a full sprint. Ergonomical design makes for a great self defence tool. The practice dagger is a must. If you carry something like this make sure you train with it. Highly recommended.

Great EDC back-up weapon

Great EDC back-up weapon. I carry this on the front of my belt making it easily accessible with either hand. Light and you won't even notice you have it, until you need it.

Great knife, great sheath, not terribly sharp although I believe that is intentional. The clip is worthless but if you weave it into Pals webbing it will stay put.
