You Are More Apt To Get the Best When You Buy The Genuine Manufactures Product
by JMark (5 out of 5 stars)

Unlike many of the so-called Nintendo Wii controllers being sold on Amazon by 3rd party sellers, the "Nintendo Wii Remote Plus - White", I recently purchased from seller HPP Enterprises through Amazon was the "real thing" and so far it is working perfectly!! I always try to buy genuine Nintendo accessories rather than purchasing similar "Nintendo look-a likes" from other manufacturers for the best quality gaming experience on my home game system. A genuine Wii motion controller will have a large Wii imprinted just below the 4 blue lights and also the words "Wii MotionPlus INSIDE" printed in a crescent "smiley" shape just below. Off-Brand Wii controllers do not have this exact same printing in this manner. (See 2 photos attached) The genuine Wii controller I purchased connected with my Wii system without any hesitation/conflict & performs very well so far with no expected negative changes in the near future. Very pleased with my purchase, Thank you!

NOTE: Fyi, I DO NOT work for either Nintendo nor HPP Enterprises and was not promised and DID NOT receive any $$ or any other rewards for my review. I wrote this review as a verified Amazon customer only, who purchased this products for my use. My comments and/or opinions are my own. ~JM~

Don't Bother with 3rd Party Distributors
by Paul Bulger (5 out of 5 stars)
May 20, 2015

Tried to save a few bucks going with a third party distributor once, then I decided to buy a few of these brand new licensed remotes, this is definitely the way to go. On top of the fact that these licensed remotes actually work consistently and they don't ever break, Nintendo has made quite a few neat improvements since the original Wii remotes:
-First off, Wii Motion Plus is built in, which is really nice.
-Batteries last for hours upon hours upon hours (though I'd still recommend buying rechargeable batteries.)
-The grips now have these little grooves in them which makes them very comfortable to hold onto.
-The button for syncing is now found on the outside of the remote, so you don't have to remove the backing to sync it with your Wii/Wii U
-And the remotes come with those rubber grips, which personally, I find a hassle and would rather just not bother with, but other users might find them to be pretty neat.

So if you need a remote or a few extra remotes, just splurge the extra dollars and go with something licensed, there's much more value in it.

AWESOME theming, region-free, Wii Motion Plus built-in, works with Wii & Wii U
by Dubtech Labs (5 out of 5 stars)
April 27, 2015

I already had a handful of basic black/white Wiimotes from the original Wii days, but one day I decided to just try the new Mario-themed Wiimote. It was so awesome looking & feeling that I had to get Luigi to match! Then Peach! And obviously at this point, I'm too far into it to not want to collect them all.

All of them are themed so perfectly, and this one is no different. They each have a primary color to match the respective character, as well as secondary and tertiary colors which all jive perfectly with the characters they represent.

Peach's color scheme:

Light Pink: Front, wrist strap clamp

Pink/Magenta: Back, rubber sleeve, wrist strap, 1&2 buttons

Yellow: D-Pad

White: Peach Crown Logo, A button

Also, these Wii Remotes are region free! So yes, you absolutely *can* use the Japanese version on a US console. The physical remotes are no different between regions, only the box and instructions. And yes, these newer, awesomer remotes include the Wii Motion Plus accessory built-in, and it can be used on the original Wii console as well as the Wii U. So as you may gather, these basically have 100% compatibility with whatever you want to use them for!

Two non-rechargeable AA Panasonic batteries are included to get you started. So just pop those in, and push the small red sync button on the back of the remote where the battery compartment is, as well as the sync button on the front of your Wii/Wii U. One other great thing, is unlike the older Wiimotes, the sync button can be pressed through the case and rubber sleeve, so you *don't* need to remove the sleeve or battery cover to sync the remote. You will, however, need to remove them to insert or replace the batteries.

The best version of the Wii Remote ever made - but beware of non-OEM hardware

The best version of the Wii Remote ever made - but beware of non-OEM hardware

It used to be the case that counterfeit Wii remotes were fairly easy to spot. Unfortunately for consumers (and presumably Amazon warehouse employees as well) they're getting harder and harder to tell apart from the real deal. See the video I've attached for an overview of one such would-be item and its Nintendo counterpart. It's actually pretty convincing! Still, for anyone who's ever actually used a Wii remote, the difference between OEM and non-OEM hardware is pretty obvious once you get through the packaging. Buyers should be aware that non-OEM Wii Remotes are currently getting mixed in with OEM hardware, as evidenced by my comparison, as well as by reviews left by others. So, in lieu of Amazon sellers uploading pictures of the products they're offering - and especially if the order is Amazon fulfilled shipping - just be aware that it's basically going to be a toss-up as to whether you're going to get a genuine item or not. Your mileage may vary. Fortunately, Amazon's customer service makes returns fairly painless in the event that you don't receive what you were expecting.

Anyway, now that that's out of the way, next up is a review of the product itself. Note that while the video pertains more to a discussion on the differences between legit and fake Wii remotes, the textual review that follows (and my rating) are strictly about the official version of the product. Finally, towards the end, I've included some emendations/clarifications/corrections pertaining to some of the things I said in the video.

THE REVIEW:

Buyers of Wii Remotes should know that not all of them are (or were) created equal. No, I'm not talking about the various third-party versions that are out there: I'm talking about the bona-fide Wii Remotes produced by Nintendo themselves.

For those unaware, the original Wii Remote came without a rubber grip/sleeve, without a wrist strap locking mechanism, without a matte/textured back, without Wii MotionPlus INSIDE, without the ability to sync the remote to a friend's console without first having to remove the battery cover, and it was only available in white.

Yet, over time, the aforementioned revisions/additions/features were added to the Wii remote, one by one: whereas before, Wii remotes were making news headlines for being flung into television sets and walls by over-zealous Wii Sports Tennis and Bowling players, now the remotes were given a rubber sleeve designed to prevent an excess of damage in the event of a remote flying out of a player's hand; whereas before, the "˜lark's head' thread (the simple looped knot that attaches the wrist strap to the body of the remote) would allegedly weaken and fray in the event of twisting - potentially breaking entirely upon being flung (accidentally, of course) into the void - now Nintendo was shipping out a more robust version that had a stronger thread (the old threads were 0.6mm in diameter; newer ones are 1.0mm); whereas before, the wrist strap had a simple piece of plastic on it that was intended to be cinched up to the player's wrist to keep the wrist strap from slipping off, which purportedly didn't always work as intended, now the plastic slider was replaced with a locking mechanism that prevented it from loosening up, no matter how hard you flung the remote; whereas before, the back of the Wii remote was about as smooth as a first-gen GameCube controller, now it had a pleasant textured grip; whereas before, playing "The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword" (among other titles) required a dedicated Wii MotionPlus accessory to be plugged into the bottom of the controller, now all of the accelerometers, gimbles, gyros, and other pieces of hardware necessary for MotionPlus functionality were all neatly bundled-up inside the remote itself; whereas before, one had to remove the rear battery cover in order to sync with a friend's Wii console, now all one had to do was press a button right on the back of the remote itself... etc. It's also now available in multiple colors.

In short, people voiced concerns, and Nintendo listened. Granted, in the case of the wrist band, it was in response to a class action lawsuit, and yes, sometimes it took Nintendo a while to respond, but they did respond, and the Wii Remote only improved with each iteration. This item represents the Wii Remote at its finest, in terms of both its form and its functionality.

About the only thing that could possibly make these remotes better would be a rechargeable battery. Fortunately, these are readily available, through both first- and third-party channels. One could, perhaps, criticize Nintendo for the fact that the controllers aren't rechargable out-of-the-box, but it is this reviewer's opinion that Nintendo's exclusion of a hard-baked rechargeable battery was actually a long-term win for fans: by adopting the AA form-factor and ensuring that the remote was compatible with NiMH cells for those who opted to use them, Nintendo effectively ensured (whether intentionally or not) that the highly unique Wii Remote (and Wii Remote Plus) peripheral will remain serviceable by consumers - humble players, not only collectors/specialists/tinkers - for many years to come.

REVIEW SUMMARY:

Pros:
- Comes with sleeve, matte/textured backing, revision 4 (latest, so far as I know) wrist-strap, and battery cover with the push-through sync button
- Has the Wii MotionPlus feature built right in - no need for yet another accessory!
- Best version/iteration of the controller and its accessories ever produced

Cons:
- Not rechargeable out-of-the-box (though I'd say this is more of a nit-pick than a real design flaw)

VIDEO COMPARISON ADDENDUM/ERRATA:

I stated that I purchased two of these remotes six months ago, received real ones, and that I only just recently purchased two more, and received... different ones. I was mistaken: According to my Amazon purchase history, I purchased the first set over 18 months ago! I now recall that after their initial unboxing, I let them sit unused in their boxes in a closet for about a year. I only started using them around six months ago. So I'm not sure how long the mix-ups have been happening. It could just be that I got lucky the first time. Unfortunately, it's been long enough that the seller that I originally purchased from no longer seems to deal in very many Nintendo products. Oh well.

I also realized that I kind of implied that if a Wii Remote has Wii MotionPlus built into it, if it doesn't have EXACTLY the style of back and wrist strap shown, it should set off alarm bells in a potential buyer's mind, but this is probably unfair: as I understand it, the back wasn't redesigned until the Wii U came out, and the wrist strap went through more iterations than the remote itself (if you're buying used, the owner might simply have lost the newer wrist strap and substituted in an older one), so it's not impossible to find these with an older battery cover or wrist strap (although the wrist strap should still have a thicker thread than the first versions did, provided it's the same one that shipped with the remote).

Finally, I said in the video that Nintendo recalled the thin-stranded wrist-straps, but I later learned that this was actually a false rumor: A class-action lawsuit WAS filed over wrist-straps that were allegedly breaking under normal use, however Nintendo never actually conceded to this allegation, nor did they ever recall the first variant of the wrist straps that were released. Rather, they maintained that under normal use, the original wrist straps would function exactly as intended, and that only under extremely exceptional circumstances/abuse might the thread break. In keeping with good faith, they still went ahead and increased the thickness of the thread, and allowed consumers the option of requesting revised straps be shipped to them, at no charge. Way to go, Nintendo.

Hope that helps. Good luck, and happy hunting!

This was just gross. DO NOT BUY THIS!

This was supposed to be a brand new product, and it wasn't! Not only did they send me a used one. It was dirty and the battery panels were rusted and it doesn't even work. This was supposed to be a sure purchase because it was from "Nintendo". What a piece of garbage. I'm really really disappointed.

Defective Remote
by Edgar Saenz (1 out of 5 stars)
July 28, 2017

I recently purchased a Wii U controller from you guys and I tried to give it some time but it keeps acting up. The buttons either don't respond or they disconnect while being held down. Please let me know what can be done. Thank you. *Update* Sent the controller in and was basically called a liar about the controller being defective. I had to pay shipping to send it in and was not given my money back. They returned my defective controller stating, "We did receive the controller back however, after testing it for over an hour it seems to work perfectly. No disconnecting, after playing a mario game which uses all of the buttons on the controller... Since it appears the controller is working correctly I can only offer a partial refund which will deduct the original shipping cost." Definitely would not recommend this company due to their customer service. I was assured sending the controller in they would refund the cost plus the shipping.

Unbreakable Quality

It's an official Nintendo controller that works with the Wii and Wii U. Has built-in MotionPlus functionality and is practically indestructible to boot. Will last for years of heavy use, unlike knock-offs.

Gorgeous remote and amazing gameplay!
by Isaac Davanzo (5 out of 5 stars)
May 2, 2017

I recently bought a Wii to relive some of my older childhood memories, and I needed some Wiimotes.

These things are absolutely gorgeous and they feel amazing. They come with the plastic sleeve, the remote, and batteries. The Wii motion plus is a great addition as well.

Do not buy those off-controllers. I beg of you. This will be the best investment you make in controllers. It is guaranteed quality.

The controllers are Mario Bros. themed, with the - and + buttons being yellow to represent the overall buttons. They are also blue in the back, to match the overalls. The B trigger is brown, to represent the shoes.

This is the best purchase I could've made. I know the prices seem a bit steep at $25 and $27, but you honestly can't go wrong. The sync button is also on the outside, so you don't have to remove the plastic shell and battery case to reach it.

Can a controller be called "gorgeous?"
by Hollz (5 out of 5 stars)

These are beautiful! I recently bought Wii Fit U since it was cheap and there are several dancing games that require the motion plus. Since I haven't bought a wiimote since initially buying my Wii in 2007, I figured I would just purchase full wiimotes. I decided not to go cheap on an off brand because you never know what you'll get.

I bought two and out of the package, these are shiny and beautiful! They come in nice matching black rubber grip cases (or condoms as I call them) and have black wrist straps. Synched up like champs and worked perfectly. Highly recommend! Not a bad price, either!

Works only after searching Internet for instructions
by Kristy Carson (4 out of 5 stars)

This item works and it is an official Nintendo product, which is important. It is nice to have the newer model with built-in motion sensor. We only had three and this rounded it out to a nice foursome of remotes. However, it was shipped from China and, as is typical of orders from that region, it had NO instructions. Had to search the Internet to find out how to sync this with our Wii Resort system, because just turning it on didn't do the job. In general, I think the origin of where an item would be sent from should ALWAYS be listed on every Amazon description so it can be factored into a purchase decision. I would NOT have ordered this if I knew it was coming from China, simply because instructions would be either: a) nonexistent, or b) impossible to understand (because they generally use software-based translations from Chinese to English, which in "pure" word-for-word translations will lack syntax because Chinese has none. Hence, sentence construction lacks any linear or logical basis and is unintelligible to typical English-only speakers). A policy of identifying where items are sent from would add greater transparency to purchases.
