one annoying design flaw keeps me from giving it more stars

Does what it is supposed to do. While it toasts ok, one annoying design flaw keeps me from giving it more stars. Upon tilting it upside down to clear out excess crumbs, some of the crumbs got inside the display. Cuisinart offered to send another, but it wasn't worth the trouble.

Poor Customer Service
by David (1 out of 5 stars)

The plastic handle fell off a couple of months ago and I am unable to put it back on securely. It appears to be a very flimsy design. I emailed Cuisinart with a copy of the invoice (twice-12/27 and 1/19) showing it is clearly within the warranty period but have yet to receive a response. Pretty poor customer service. I am not certain I would buy another Cuisinart small appliance.

Disappointing!!!
by Vicki Reader (1 out of 5 stars)

What a disappointment! I chose Cuisinart because my cheap 2-slice version works fine. This was a gift for my daughter's family, but I use it a few times a week When I watch grandkids. I can put two slices of bread in the same side on number three and one comes out white and one comes out almost burnt. Also one day number three is perfect for toast and the next daY it's way too dark! Thank goodness for Amazon's return policy!

I was not sure this would be a good buy after reading some of the reviews

It's growing on me. I was not sure this would be a good buy after reading some of the reviews. The first time I used it it had a weird smell, but that went away very quickly. The first 5 or 6 times the toast didn't toast all that well, but now it is fine. It took a while to "work itself in". I like the bell alarm to let you know when the toast is done, It isn't that loud and the alarm doesn't last that long. I would recommend it and like it now.

What's that sound? Why is the toaster making noise?
by JAMES P LAPOINTE (1 out of 5 stars)

This toaster caused an hour long what's that sound hunt in our house one evening. It turns out the digital display makes a constant hum noise. After being plugged in for two days, it started making this electrical humming sound. After finally figuring out what it was we contacted the manufacturer, who told us that that was normal and that these toasters do make that noise all the time. So if you're not fond a slightly loud electrical humming noise constantly going on in the background of your home, don't buy this toaster!

OK, but should be better at toasting evenly.
by Swamp Rabbit (4 out of 5 stars)

Chosen to replace 40 year old toaster that finally died. Selected for its relatively small footprint. Brushed stainless finish matches well with other appliances we own. The extra lift mechanism for small items is a nice feature because we use loaf bread that is smaller than standard size. Settings are easy to figure out. Cord wrap/hide feature is a bit tricky but once done its OK.

Some disappointment with toasting evenly. Top third of loaf bead on the "3" setting is very light while the bottom part of the bread is about right.

Love it. Looks good! Good for marriage!

A bit more lightweight than I expected - I was hoping for a beefy, weighty thing. This looks good but is kind of light -- but really, who cares? I REALLY like that there are four slices - two for wifey, two for me. The thing is only used for like 4 minutes a day, but I'll be darned if it's not the exact same four minutes we both want it NOW. This avoids all issues relating to whose toast is more important at 6:46 a.m. Also, she likes a "1" and I like a "4" - so that's handy also. The big blue numbers are really nice - amazing how much less often I have it on wrong setting - as opposed to prior toaster which had a little knob that I never looked at until the smoke came out and I'm like "HEY WHO PUT THE STUPID THING ON 9????"

Looks good on the counter, matches the SS dishwasher and fridge.

Also like the extra push up for small pieces of toast.

Drop kicked to the corner

I don't usually write negative reviews, but for this Cuisnart DPT-415 Countdown Toaster, I'm going to make an exception. Downside: (1) This has to be one of the poorest designed levers ever. Day one, you had to be Hercules twin with bionic fingers to push the lever down all the way. If you were lucky, the lever held and engaged. Within three weeks, you could barely get the lever down midway. At first I thought a piece of toast -- petrified -- had lodged down near the point where the lever engages. Nope. Just poor engineering. (2) Think about the most annoying thing about waking up ... that's right the alarm, finding it, then shutting it off. The loud double chirp sound informing you that your toast has completed it's cycle and has popped up was both alarming and in my honest opinion a redundancy. Why the alarm? Who pops in toast and starts doing house chores only to be reminded that your toast is ready now? Not me. I pop bread in and wait for the toast to pop out and then slather it in butter so it melts into the crunchy deliciousness of that artisan sour dough I just sliced. Upside: I still used Cuisnart blenders.

Works pretty well
by Bill B. (4 out of 5 stars)

Several months into the purchase, this item is functioning well. Really like the backlit, easy to read display, the various options and features, etc. Probably the only issue would be finding a nice middle ground on the settings, i.e. with an analog dial you could set it at 4.5 or 3.5, but on a digital display you get only 3, 4, or 5. So, we ended up with some burnt toast because some pieces are put in frozen, while others are not, but also because there's a difference between the unit starting cold and starting hot. In other words, the first run will warm up the toaster, so you might need to select a lower setting for an immediate second run of more toast. However, that's really an annoyance more than a defect, and not worth more than a single star. Would still easily recommend this toaster to anyone looking for a modern appliance that works for the job intended.

I absolutely love this toaster
by Dian Black (5 out of 5 stars)

I absolutely love this toaster. I was getting so sick and tired of having toast that was burned on one side and not even toasted on the other. We googled which brands were the best, but we didn't want to spend a couple hundred bucks on a toaster. (frowny face).. We thought this would be a good toaster and the price was reasonable for us. It is such a pleasure to have toast that is equally brown on both sides. I love that you can program each side individually. My husband like his just one step short of cremated, and I like mine nice and brown, so we are both happy. I also like the fact that you can cancel the toasting if you think it is done enough (before, I had to pull out the plug to cancel) It also has a nice little "ping" when the toast is done so that you can take it out and butter it before it gets cold. Highly recommend this product. Come on, you can buy 3 toasters which don't do a good job, or one that will make you happy forever for a reasonable price....
