Too Realistic for Party Guests!
by Cheap Chrissy (5 out of 5 stars)

This was such a good mold that it made my dessert so realistic that nobody would eat it. :-( However it was easy to use if you put it in a bowl to keep it upright while the gelatin sets. And don't forget to spray it with non-stick spray. If anybody is wondering, it's larger than a human brain.

Halloween Party Fun!
by Assistant Extraordinaire (5 out of 5 stars)

I recently ordered this brain mold in order to make Martha Stewart's "Bloody Brain" shrimp cocktail for a Halloween party, and it came out perfectly! The mold was the right size for the recipe, and released the dish easily once the gelatin had set.

I made the nastiest jello with this. I meant for it to be gross but the grooves are so deep that it looked really, really gross when all was said and done. Not much of it got eaten, though.

Too big for its own good
by Travis M. (3 out of 5 stars)

The mold holds up to the heat, and will stand on its own, but it doesn't sit perfectly flat. I got around this by propping the lip of the mold on the edge of a large glass mixing bowl. This was a good move, because it's tough not to spill when filling it with 1.55 liters (or 1550 grams on your kitchen scale) of gelatinous joy. It's a little flimsy, so definitely make sure it's secure before pouring your boiling liquid. I suggest oiling the mold with copious amounts of vegetable oil before pouring if you want to have any hope of releasing your brain in one piece.

My main issue with the mold is that it's too big for the gelatin to hold together. My gelatin collapsed under its own weight despite being fully set. If you want a free-standing brain, you'll have to add significantly more gelatin than you would for normal jello snacks. For some uses this is acceptable, but for my purposes it wasn't going to work. I realize I'm in the minority here, but I wanted to create a life-sized mechanical model of the human brain (for science!) using 0.6 weight% agar, so I couldn't get away with simply increasing the concentration.

and the deep grooves turn out absolutely awesome. Used it for

As a person who has never used a jello mold before, I was a little nervous about this. Here's what I learned, and it only took two tries. #1, spray the mold with non-cook spray. #2, dip in warm water for 10 seconds and then gently shake away from the edges of the mold. This will take a while, and kind of work around in a circle, doing little bits at a time. #3 Do not flip the mold over to dump out until all edges have shaken away from the mold surface. That's it!

Now for the product: it is durable, not at all flimsy, holds over 1 big box of jello, and the deep grooves turn out absolutely awesome.

Used it for: a science experiment showing why we should wear bike helmets.

Totally realistic brain!

This brain mold works wonderfully! I bought this for a neuroscience class I was teaching, and it was a huge hit. You do have to tinker with colors, but it really ends up looking exactly like a brain. The directions were great, and I have had no trouble getting the brain out of the mold because the directions advise to coat it with cooking spray. It sloshes right out, gross and slimey. The mold is not good quality. It is made of very thin plastic and mine cracked the first time I used it. Nonetheless, it still works to make really creepy slimey brains that kids love!

A huge success!

This mold is very sturdy. I will be able to use it for years. It was a terrific hit at the party I brought it to. I won first prize for scariest dessdert by a landslide! Here is the recipe I used: 4 3 oz pacakages peach jello, 3 cups boiling water, 1 12 oz fluid can evaporated milk, 1 1/2 cups peach schnapps. Oil the brain mold, stir jello powder into boiling water to desolve, allow to cool to room temperature (or milk will curdle), about 1/2 hour. Mix in milk & schnapps. Pour into mold and refrigerate for 4 to 6 hours or over night. Place mold in larger bowl of hot water for 30 seconds to a minute, then invert onto platter. I used grenadine and karo syrup plus a bit of red paste food coloring to make the "blood" then painted it on the mold with a child's paint brush and decorated around the platter with some lettuce leaves.

Got Brains?
by Dalila S. (5 out of 5 stars)

I'd purchased another brain mold from a local hobby store not too long ago. The plastic was thin, small and bent easily. So, I was a little worried when I ordered this mold. It's great! The semi-opaque plastic is sturdy, life size and should last a while. The detail is also pretty awesome. I haven't had a chance to use this mold yet, but I'm looking forward to it. Shipping was prompt and I would definitely order from this company again.

not totally happy

arrived cracked- contacted the customer service immediately, and was promised to have another sent out, but they never did. I went ahead and taped it up and filled it with a gelatin mix. It is very thin plastic and does not sit flat, so you have to prop it up with something to have it solidify evenly. The ridges that make it look like 'brain' are not very deep, you would need to have a mix that is opaque with cream or milk added to even have them show up.
