I set the Dr to 70 and it keeps it 70 pretty easily. I hear it cycle on and off ...

I use my basement as a office and it only has one vent, so in the winter it gets kind of chilly. When the rest of the house is sitting at 70+ the basement is around 60ish. I usually buy a new heater every year because the ones I usually get are kind of junk even though I buy the most expensive ones from the local "mart". Normally the ones I get help some and get me up to around 65. I set the Dr to 70 and it keeps it 70 pretty easily. I hear it cycle on and off pretty regularly instead of just running constantly like the others I have tried. I have only been using it for a few weeks but I am definitely impressed and I hope I can get more than one year out of it.

Good little heater but definitely not a ROOM heater
by Missouri Customer (4 out of 5 stars)

This is a great, attractive space heater. In small enclosed rooms it will most likely work fine. I put mine in our finished basement/family room to warm up the area so we wouldn't have to use the propane furnace as much (got price gouged on that). It blows air in only one direction so you have to point it in the direction you want it to warm. We often found ourselves hogging it and making the other family members mad if they were not sitting next to us. Once you move it, you lose the warmth. If it is pointed in your direction though it warms you up nice and toasty, almost to the point of being too hot. But in a large room, that is it; you don't get an overall room warm up.

WOW! This thing REEKS!
by Computaholic (1 out of 5 stars)

I'm really surprised more people have not commented about the musty smell this thing produces. The manual mentions that their may be a trace of smoke or odor when the unit is first operated but that it should quickly evaporate and not re-occur. Unfortunately the stench does not evaporate quickly and I can only hope it goes away and does not re-occur.

It has an "Advanced Dual Heating System" which means It only has two heating elements. One of the elements is rated for 20,000 hrs of use and the other is 80,000 hrs. Good thing it comes with a 3 year warranty because it will need to be repaired when the 20,000 hour element goes out 60,000 hours before the other one.

It's seems sturdy so I guess that counts as a "furniture-Grade" cabinet but the nightstand design encourages people to set things on it that shouldn't be on top of a heater. You have to be less than 6 feet away and directly in front of the unit for the remote to work consistently.

The manual does a poor job of explaining the different modes of operation and it doesn't tell you what the icons on the display dial mean. The review shows that I have a "Verified Purchase" but after reading the 4 and 5 star reviews I'm wondering if I even have the same model.
*Update 12/25/2014 - The odor has not gone away as the manual states. I would highly recommend purchasing a different heater and stay away from this one.

Noisy motor after 2 seasons
by J LaVelle mississippi (2 out of 5 stars)

Bought Dec 1 2016 . Only use chill chaser Dr Heater DR999 for about 3 months a season here in Mississippi . These last cpl days the blower motor has begun to make a clickety clack noise and getting worse. Really Like this model heater, But its going to have to last longer than a hand full of months for this kinda money . Lowes and Walmart have these types of heaters for 69 bucks that will go 2 winters . . COME ON DR HEATER you are ruining your name with cut corner blower motors . FYI I do keep my filter screen very clean .

Nice decoration piece, but overprice for a simple heater
by Win (2 out of 5 stars)
April 15, 2016

Pro:
- It kicks off every few minutes and check the temperature. It is a slick feature to get an accurate room temperature; I wish other Infrared Quartz heaters have that feature.
- Nice decoration piece, but it is quite heavy.

Con:
- Control is really flimsy.
- Overprice. (It is just a regular PTC heater with one Infrared Quartz tube. If I want a PTC heater, I can buy it at Walmart for 25 dollars or less.)

Some smell reported by others, mine wasn't too bad. I like the size and features. It sits next to my ikea pong chair, just the right height to set my coffee on !

Very happy with this!
by limited360 (5 out of 5 stars)

We use this in our theater room in our basement in Michigan. Typically the room gets down to ~60f when we are not in there. Set the heater to 72f and let it go! Shortly the room warms up and it maintains the room at this temp while we are in their.

The energy usage is very low as well, much better than the quartz panel heater I used to use in this room. Also it looks very good and has a very high level of build quality.

The finish of the wood is not the best. I have other ones that are better looking ...

Heats well. The finish of the wood is not the best. I have other ones that are better looking and cost less. As far as using as a night stand, well it's way too short. Would need to be 5 inches taller to be a real nightstand.

Outstanding product for the price!
by Antwon Smith (5 out of 5 stars)

I purchased this heater about a week ago to supplement the heaters already being used in my home. I already had one infrared heater (Redcore R4) and a standard space heater but our poorly insulated home still wasn't quite warm. Fortunately, in my search, I came across this little heater (and I do mean little, it wasn't nearly as large as the Redcore heater). Both my girlfriend and I are very impressed with this product. It puts out some serious heat to be an infrared heater.

We have a toddler at home so we wanted to stay away from the standard heaters. The cabinet never gets hot to the touch which is a definite plus for us. To our delight, we've been able to stop using the standard space heater we had and only use the two infrared heaters. We placed this one in our living room and it genuinely blends right in. It's an extremely attractive product and literally looks like any other piece of furniture. All in all, very happy with it!
