do NOT waste your money on buying a Winbot

I am SO UPSET! When I first received Winbot W730, I was singing praises to it. I told my friends about it and even wrote a recommendation on Facebook about it. Update: I have only had this piece of junk for less than a month. When I first got it, we used it on several pieces of glass, including a mirror, with no problem. Today we thought we'd clean our downstairs windows. Imagine how sick I was to hear a big POP, then see a resulting long crack. I couldn't believe my eyes. While I know I did nothing wrong, dummy me tried it on an adjoining window, and lo and behold it broke that one too! Thank goodness I bought it on Amazon less than 30 days ago. I took pictures but it's very difficult to capture a crack in a clear piece of glass without taking a picture of the backyard at the same time, but I'm sure you get the idea. Please, people, do NOT waste your money on buying a Winbot. I'm out the cost of replacing two double-paned windows!

Works extremely well if you have a lot of glass

Not quite sure why this has such a low rating. I almost didn't buy it because there were so many poor reviews. Luckily I didn't listen. We have about 2,000 sq ft of glass and without this I would probably hire someone to clean it. This thing works very well, much better than I hoped actually. It leaves minimal to no streaking, usually does a better job than I'm capable of with a squeegee. I think some people are complaining because if the glass is very dirty, it does leave some streaks once the pad packs up with dirt. You need to do a pass to clean up the windows if they are filthy, and then run this regularly to maintain them in a clean state. It doesn't work to well on filthy windows. I wouldn't recommend this for a regular house, it would not save any time. It takes a while to setup, clean the pads, and constantly move it from window to window. If you have tons of windows though, it's less of a pain to use this than it is to clean them by hand. If you have tons of windows + windows that are inaccessible to a human, then this is a no brainer. I stick this out my window and I can actually clean quite a lot of the exterior glass on the high rise I live in. Basically anything within arms reach of a window opening. The quality on this thing isn't super impressive, the release valve that unsuctions it from the glass broke off for no reason. The rubber is falling apart where the power chord goes into it. Overall though, it's not too bad, it still works ok and it gets a lot more use than was probably intended. When we clean the glass, it literally it basically runs from morning til night to clean it all. I'm pretty satisfied with this contraption.

Attached photo shows it cleaning the outside glass of our building.

It ran fine on two windows (didn't do a great job but ...

This isn't my first window cleaning robot so when I read that it had broken windows I thought that certainly couldn't happen to me (plus I live in Florida and have impact glass). It ran fine on two windows (didn't do a great job but better than nothing) - on the third window I heard a loud pop and saw it fall from the window. At first I thought it had just lost suction and fell - when I walked up to the window I saw I was wrong and it had broken the glass. From other reviews I thought I would have a great customer service experience and they would come to my rescue -- I was wrong. I'd spent two weeks calling and emailing them - the rep I spoke with the first time assured me that someone would contact me (two months later I still haven't heard from them), I've called back and got the voicemail a few times and I've also spoken with a rep that said he was trying to reach a specific person to assist with this type of issue. I returned the robot after 3 weeks without a resolution but I'm still seeking one from them just to see how it turns out - I like when customer service can turn around a bad experience so hopefully they will.

In short - if you don't think your window is going to break, it's probably going to break...

Warning - Not supported by manufacturer
by Jeff Thieme (1 out of 5 stars)

I wanted to like this product. I used it on several large windows around my house and it worked great both inside and out. But after several windows it stopped being able to track straight as if one of the treads wasn't working properly. Figuring I got a dud, I returned it and ordered another. As before this one worked great on the first couple of windows then started having problems going forward again.

I decided to contact the manufacturer thinking there was something I was doing wrong. The response I got back from the was the following:
"the Winbot you purchased was from an unauthorized dealer, and was not a new product - therefore it's not under warranty" Basically it sounds like they shouldn't be selling this model of the product as new as it isn't supported by the manufacturer. Not sure why Amazon continues to sell this as new but be aware of this should you decide to buy one.

fell off the window and broke within 10 minutes of use

I bought this for my SF for Christmas. We charged it per the instructions and tried it out. It ran out of power within 10 minutes and then fell off the window and doesn't work anymore. We tried calling the 800 number to report it, but no one answers the phone, you have to leave a voice mail but no one calls you back.

Don't Let The Other Reviews Scare You Off
by Patrick M (4 out of 5 stars)

I bought this almost three months ago but was dreading getting it to work after reading the horrifying reviews and sporadic stories of broken windows. The clearance price was also a little worrying considering newer models are 4X or 5X more expensive. I'm a happy customer this morning though.

The Bad : Instructions are negligently inadequate.

The suction release switch is a joke and will break off the first day.

The trick is to just turn off the power and wait about 20 seconds (while holding the unit) for the suction to release on its own.

It will leave streaks along the edges of the window.

The Good : You can probably eventually figure out the steps not included in the users guide and get this thing working.

If you have inaccessible windows but can at least touch the pane from a safe location then this is for you.

It does a decent job of cleaning. I'd give it a solid A, A+ would include getting the edges better.

A few of the things I learned that weren't clear from the user's manual : It does need to be plugged in during operation. That backup battery is just in case power gets disconnected during operation that it doesn't lose suction and fall off before you can get to it. Once suction occurs and the blue light starts flashing you need to press start on the unit or the remote. If it doesn't achieve the flashing blue suction try moving it forward and/or backward using the remote. That got it working for me a couple times. If it goes into flashing red failure you need to use the reset button on the remote to get it working again.

Broke my window glass!
by Charlie (1 out of 5 stars)

I tried it and it slipped of my window and broke the glass. I have expensive Aragon dual pane glass and now I'm left with expensive repairs. Warning do not purchase unless u are willing to risk it breaking the glass. Also only really useful if u have big uninterrupted panes of glass that are thick and can withstand the strong suction. My glass is beyond the thickness they recommended in their mannual but still cracked it.

Love my Winbot!
by TerryS (5 out of 5 stars)

After doing some research it turns out that not all systems actually use moisture to clean your windows. This one does. I was a little skeptical because cleaning windows, especially the ones I have where they are the entire wall of my house and almost 3 stories tall, can be an area where you end up being a bit picky. Well this little Winbot is hard little worker and kind of entertaining. If your windows are as dirty as mine were it will take a couple of cleaning cycles to get them clean. You can use the remote to drive it to spots that need a little extra work. If you have odd shaped windows it isn't going to fit into those so there is still no avoiding a bucket and a ladder. When you use the Winbot you spray a solvent onto one of the pads, heed their warning and don't over dampen it. It really doesn't seem to take very much. I did buy extra solvent and pads because my wall of windows is so large that I wanted to do it all, inside and out, in one day. The extra pads allowed me to do this without waiting for them to be washed. Is it perfect, no. But I didn't really think anything would be. What I do know is that if I put this little guy to work once a month or so I am going to be very happy with my windows and save a lot of money in the process. I usually costs me around $300 to have someone come out and clean this wall of windows. Yup I'm smiling!

Happy Highrise Customer

The 35 feet of windows which makes up a wall to my condo has never looked so good - even better than when I've used professional window cleaners ($50 per clean). 2/3rds of my windows are accessible from my balcony, the other 1/3 have no balcony. The windows without a balcony had to be cleaned by the building window cleaners (maybe once every 3 or 4 months?). Winbot successfully cleaned ALL of the windows. What's better than the professional window cleaner is the fact that Winbot can go to dangerous areas (e.g., the exterior walls to my glass balcony, feels like you're going fall over if you try to do those by hand). Even the "paid professionals" wouldn't clean the exterior balcony walls. Very happy with the Winbot. Not sure about all of these mediocre reviews. If you have huge windows like mine, and if you have to pull out professional window cleaning gear to clean them (or hire someone), then you'll be very pleased with the Winbot.

Streaks Galore!
by W. Kendrick (2 out of 5 stars)

I live by the ocean and have a large balcony with a lot of windows; so my windows can get pretty dirty. I bought this in hopes I could eliminate the mess a bucket and squeegee can make. The unit does a pretty good job removing the film and dirt. It usually takes two passes to get the entire window clean. on the 3rd pass I change the pads and make the final run. Unfortunately no matter how much or little solution I use, or the weather conditions (sunny, cloudy, etc) I cannot get the streaks out. I have even tried high end computer screen cleaner. So problem requires me to wipe the entire window down after it is finished. Each window takes about 40 minutes. I can clean it streak free with a bucket and squeegee in about 10 minutes. If anyone has suggestions on how to keep the window from streaking I am all ears.
