Seeing unique events captured on dash cams I developed an interested in getting one for my vehicle. Researching dash cams added confusion from all the various entries, most looking the same, with pricing varying from a few dollars to near a thousand dollars. I accidently came across the Cowon AW-1 when researching another Wi-Fi project. The videos I saw on YouTube and the information I saw at the manufacture's website convinced me to try this dash cam, the first I've ever tried. This was the only dash cam I could find several videos, including night, tunnel, and bright daylight.

After a few days of operation I can say, if you are looking for a dash cam, this is the one to get. The Wi-Fi is awesome as is the application for my Android smart phone. The first time I connected to the dash cam, the application detected a newer firmware version and installation was seamless. Video streaming works well as does searching for video clips based on time or events. Configuring the dash cam by Wi-Fi was straight forward and fairly intuitive.

The dash cam does run warm but I have not had any missing video time periods. I decided not to add the optional GPS interface so I do not have firsthand knowledge of its operation. I run the dash cam off of the cigar lighter plugs which is switched on and off by the ignition switch. When I start my truck, the dash cam starts recording and when I turn off my ignition, the camera, using it's built in power source, finishes the current recording, and gracefully shuts down the dash cam.

The dash cam comes complete with a long power cable, mounting hardware, a 16 GB micro SD memory card and reader, and PC application. The unit is well designed and well made. I highly recommended the Cowon AW-1.

Amazing Video Resolution

I installed the dash cam by placing a piece of velcro on the mount and a matching piece of velcro on my windshield. When I park my car, I hide both the dash cam and mount so the only thing visible on the windshield is a square of velcro tape. I don't have any heat issues yet, but I will need to see what happens when the weather gets warmer this summer. The resolution on this camera is amazing. I installed the Auto Capsule software from the iTunes App Store onto my iphone. The user interface is very friendly. I can take the SD card out of the camera and put it into my Galaxy Tab and watch my recordings for the day without any additional software. My only complaint is that the GPS module is not built in. The GPS module is separate and adds clutter to my car's dash.

Don't buy until you read the Android app reviews

The app does not work on Android anymore. It will not connect to WiFi with Android phones running marshmallow or lollipop.

No idea if it will work on Apple but the WiFi connection was the reason I bought it.

Works perfect, quality is HD as advertised. Included adhesives haven't faltered since I installed it last year. Records all the time, has never drained my battery as it turns off at battery level you can specify for when your car is parked for several days. Transfer files via smart card and built in wifi. Live view also available front and back.

Worst part is that the wireless related functions can sometimes take a while to load depending on your smart phone. But I rarely use them to review recorded video on the go.

Very smart packaging, housing feels solid.

Love it. I have one on the windshield and it aided in the identification of an adult idiot that throw a large rock at my car. I liked is so much that I purchased a second one for the rear window. The both function totally to my satisfaction.

Used it for 10 months without any problem, then on the 11th month, the aw1 would reset on its own a few times a day, then on the 13th month, the camera just died and wont turn on anymore, since warranty is only 12 month, this is not covered anymore, i tried to contact their service center but weeks have passed and no reply, they dont even specify where can I send the unit to get it fixed, I dont mind paying for the repairs since it died 1 month after warranty ends, but it is just impossible to contact them. with $250 price tag, i would rather buy another brand with better customer service.
