Defective Battery swelled to near exploding

Followed charging instructions charging every other month to top of charge. Used only a few times. Never exposed to extreme conditions, and battery swelled to dangerous levels before it was caught

Small, light, and works!

First, let me explain that I wanted something very simple, easy to setup and for the most part run my SnoMaster 12v fridge. I do a bit of wandering in my Jeep and I carry a fridge for the food and drinks. What I worry about is having the Jeep battery die way out in the bush, because it's a long walk home. Call it a trust issue, I even carry a Jump Pack for the Jeep. But this battery pack will run my fridge (5 watt draw) for about 3 nights before being drained. It takes about 16 hours to recharge it using the 12v connection in the Jeep while driving, but I also have a 60 watt solar panel which will charge it in about a day (6 to 10 hours). I recently went on a 6 day trip to Moab and it was awesome! Kept the fridge (and the food) cold and took up very little space. In fact, I would recommend buying two of these, less cost than the Yeti 400, and yet will do a lot, especially if you are traveling. Love this little powercell!

Doesn't last nearly as long as it should.
by Emma Dickinson (2 out of 5 stars)

Underwhelming. I purchased two units three years ago. They've been used 10-12 times and have been plugged into the wall per instruction when not in use. One unit doesn't hold a charge and is now bowed and misshapen on the bottom (little bit scary) and the other unit holds only a weak charge. I gave the Yeti 150 two stars instead of one because they did work well for the first two and a half years. I still need portable power. I don't know how I'm going to fix that problem, but it will not be with a Goal Zero product.

Also, if you're buying this unit because you want to charge any device that's powered via USB, go buy a 20,000 mAH cell phone battery pack. You'll get more power and portability for a fraction of the cost. If you're buying this unit because you want to run something that requires a standard plug, please bear in mind that this unit is fairly weak and won't be able to power most items or any appliances. I think the max output is 10 Amps, i.e. very little, like basically a light bulb - not a fan, radio, air mattress pump or anything of that nature. I used it for low-wattage fluorescent bulbs and got only 3-4 hours... for one bulb. There are substantially better options out there if you need portable power. The only reason to consider this brand over any of the other portable power brands is if you want to be able to recharge the battery using the solar panel (sold separately). I never purchased the solar panel, so I cannot speak to it's efficacy or durability. It seems some competition is entering this space. I would strongly advise reading the reviews on other brands before making a purchasing decision.

Camping
by mechtech (2 out of 5 stars)

Well I made this purchase for camping to charge electronics and use an air pump to blow up an air mattress. It works fine for charging electronics but will not run an air pump. Called goal zero didn't really get any help from them tested both air pumps that I have only pulled 4 amps and 3 amps should have worked but didn't. So called amazon to resolve issue they went above and beyond to help me. So the two stars are for goal zero and would give five stars to amazon.

Paired with two Nomad 20 panels and charged on sunny day quickly. Has multiple connections. Holds charge very well. DO get at least two Nomad 20 panels. Used only one at first and then got second for much faster recharge. Lost power during storm and Yeti used to recharge phones, portable Goal Zero lights. Next day quickly recharged with panels. Now a big fan of solar.

Good for camping with a CPAP
by Cheap (4 out of 5 stars)

Bought this for a two night camping trip to power my cpap. I have a ResMed Airsense 10 and I had it on pressure 4. The fist two nights I had it at home I tested it to see how it would last. The first night I used it I pretty much exhausted the battery in 6 hours. After recharging that day I turned off all the extraneous options on the CPAP like humidifier and heated tubing, that night I only used about 40% of the battery. So yes it will power a CPAP through 2 nights, but you'll need to turn off your options. I was also ankle to inflate air mattresses using it, so this really met my requirements. I also bought the solar panel and dutifully plugged it in first thing in the morning. I placed the panels on my windshield facing east in the morning, and then west I the afternoon. We had basically cloudless sky all day, but by noon I hadn't seen any change I the battery, but oddly by 4 I had 100% charge.

Critiques:
1. Price. In terms of panels/ batteries the this is the pricy solution. What it excels at is portability and simplicity, but if price is an issue Harbor Freight kits are the better way to go.
2. Limitations. I did try to inflate one mattress with the cigarette lighter adapter, and I tried to use the system as a UPS for my tv at home. In both applications the system threw an immediate red fault light saying the power draw was too great. So a. The cranking amperage is low. And b. The system faults safely with am easy reset.

Finally the system says you need to keep it plugged in when not in use too preserve the battery. I use it as an UPS for my CPAP now. All in all, if it lasts 2-3 years ill be very happy with my purchase.

Battery swelled, leaked, burned, nearly caused fire
by Stephen Van Vuuren (1 out of 5 stars)
September 13, 2018

Unit had worked well for 3 years, only light use 3 or 4 times, charged as instructed. Moved the unit to other side of room, it was unplugged for 2 weeks, plugged in. We soon had a powerful sulfur smell in house and finally our cat tracked it down to the unit which was burning hot, swollen, about to burst, emitting terrible odor from swollen, leaking battery. Had to take outside in rain and call fire department which said it had to be cooled and taken to hazardous waste immediately. Warranty is way too short and despite usefulness of unit, avoid!!!!

I've had it for over a year, and only had it stored. I followed the instructions and charge it periodically. Damn thing won't hold a charge now. I was going to buy another one, but this one doesn't even work! Not happy.
