I love having spherical ice in my drinks but I tried everything with these molds: Boiling my water, double boiling my water, hot water, warm water, distilled water, even tried these inverted just above a water bath in an igloo cooler (YouTube - How To Make Clear Ice Balls With Mold). Ended up going with a Wintersmiths Ice Chest. Check out my picture below, top one is with these molds, bottom is Wintersmiths Ice Chest. I am in no way nor have I ever been associated with Wintersmiths and I paid for my Ice Chest. I'm asking for another one for my birthday as it's so much easier and the spheres are amazingly clear using just hot tap water.

Ice Molds Used For Multiple Creations

I was too excited to receive the ice molds created by Whiskey Rounders. Before I never saw them anywhere except television, and a select few restaurants.

They arrived one time, and the molds surprised me once I opened the box. I did not expect the silicone to be so sturdy. The bottom of the mold is a tray for six halves. In order to make a complete ball I had to make sure the top portions were placed on properly.

I added pineapples, bottled water, and koolaid to my molds. Placing the pineapples in four of the molds before closing. The directions say to pour water in the hole, but to not make a mess I suggest using a measuring cup that has a beak for easy pouring.

My creation was ready to mix with whiskey and any other beverage with the next six hours. I think i passed the fill line on a few of them, but it did not destroy the mold creation. Once the balls with pineapples start melting, all I tasted was refreshing fruit water.

The next step for my whiskey rounders is taking a bake in the oven!

Good Quality Mold

This ice mold is very well made with high quality silicon. It makes perfect spherical ice cubes.

The only thing I find interesting (which has nothing to do with this mold) is that these round cubes melt in an unusual way. Typically the ice sphere develops a fissure down the middle of the sphere. The fissure doesn't expand enough that it splits the sphere, but it is very noticeable. Again, this doesn't matter, I simply find it curious that the spheres melt in this manner.

I have a 2-ball silicone ice mold and when I saw the 6-ball version I had to have it! It makes so much sense to be able to freeze 6 of these in one tray. All ice balls take several hours to freeze so if you need a quantity you can do it much more easily with 6 at once. This product is a heavier duty silicone than my other one also.

Don't be like me and think you can squeeze just a little more water in the mold than the freeze line, it will come out the fill hole! It's not a problem for that to happen but you'll have extra ice pieces to deal with when unmolding the balls.

After I unmolded the balls I put the extra ones in a ziplock bag and put it in the ice drawer to keep them from evaporating.

My husband usually drinks his Scotch without ice and with a splash of water, but one of these slow-melting ice balls accomplishes the same thing and keeps it refreshingly cool too.

Next time I'm going to try some of the ideas I've read for these molds like adding herbs or cucumber slices. Making them with juice or punch will look spectacular in a punch bowl and be great for slowing down melting in hot weather.

This is an excellent product. I have used similar products that produce 2.5" spheres of ice, but this one is the best and also the easiest one to use. 1st of all, you can make 6 at once instead of getting a 1 or 2 pack and making only that many per day. 2nd, if you drop or bang this product when frozen, the mold will not break. I have dropped a variation of this product that produces the same size ice sphere and they crack and you can no longer use them because they will no longer sit upright in the freezer. 3rd benefit is ice removal, they ice comes out easy and you don't have to wrestle with a hard mold that is frozen to ice. This product is made of soft silicone and you can simply peel out the ice spheres. You do have to be careful to follow the instructions to insure that the top of the mold is properly seated to the bottom or it will leak in your freezer, but just inspect things carefully and I also found that drying off the exterior of the mold before placing in freezer also helps prevent leaking (perhaps ice freezing at the seams expanded the mold in that area, allowing leakage. Finally, I had a few questions (about how to prevent leaking in freezer) and they company got right back to me and gave me a protocol that solved addressed what I was doing wrong. Ironically I don't use these cubes for whiskey, I use 3 of them in my beverage after work and it keeps my lltr beverage cold all evening!!

Perfect Ice Ball that does not melt in the drink quickly

I got this ice mold about 2 weeks ago for my husband and he is enjoying it since then. He likes them so much that he offers whiskey with these ice ball to any of friends or family members who is visiting us. There are 6 sphere shape molds with a little opening on the top of each sphere to fill with water. After the ice is molded, it can easily be removed by opening the top half of the sphere.

At first I had difficulty closing the top half the sphere on the bottom half. But after contacting the Whiskey Rounder, they gave me detail instruction on how the top should be sealed to the bottom. And now it works perfectly. I totally recommend this ice mold.

Item was wonderful. Recipient is using them for "Scotch o'clock". The snap tight lids are perfect and the ice balls are long lasting. He also likes the fact that there is a fill line.

For reminding me this product exists. Slotting the lid tabs into the base can be a little tricky but the results are well worth it.

This product is fun to say the least! As soon as it got here I cracked it open, cleaned it and threw it in the freezer. The ice balls are great and they're a good size, fits perfectly in nice whiskey glasses, or any glass for that matter. I saw one reviewer wrote that the ice balls crack. I had 2 out of 12 crack, so it may not be the product but something you do yourself. They last longer and drinks seem colder. Glad I purchased this! I plan on getting creative and putting lemon slices or something in the middle.

Nice Cubes - Hard To Use

It does make nice big rounders, but is difficult to use. It needs a filler device to quickly restart a new set. Each rounder must be capped in the correct position and it is difficult to match the tab to the bottom-half slot.
