Product Description

Designed to mop floors quickly and efficiently, the new iRobot Braava Floor Mopping Robot systematically covers your entire floor in a single pass. Braava uses disposable or microfiber cleaning cloths to pick up dirt, hair and dust from all your hardsurface floors including tile, vinyl, hardwood and laminate. Just attach a cloth, set Braava down, press a button and off it goes, using advanced robotic technology to track where it's been and where it needs to go. It's whisper quiet too, so you can go about your daily activities without disruption. The included Turbo Charge Cradle is a convenient, one stop charging and storage space, charging Braava 380t in as fast as two hours. Braava uses either disposable cleaning cloths, including Swiffer brand, or reusable microfiber cloths to remove dirt, dust and hair from your floors so you don't have to. Braava has two cleaning modes to choose from depending on the job you need done. In sweep mode, Braava dry mops your floors moving in straight lines using dry cleaning cloths. In mop mode, Braava uses a special back and forth mopping action and damp cleaning cloths to lift surface dirt and grime off your floors. With the Pro Clean System included in Braava 380t, a special Reservoir Cleaning Pad dispenses liquid throughout the cleaning cycle to keep the cloth damp. Cleaning cloths are easy to attach and remove with Braava's removable magnetic multi purpose cleaning pad. The NorthStar Navigation System 2 works like an indoor GPS that helps Braava keep track of where it has been and where it needs to go. The NorthStar Navigation Cube projects a signal that Braava uses to determine its location. Additional NorthStar Navigation Cubes can be purchased for the Braava 380t to expand the robot's dry mopping capabilities for bigger homes. Note: Trouble shooting steps available in pages 24 26

get the cheaper one!
by Terry S. (2 out of 5 stars)
June 19, 2017

Please don't be fooled by the higher price. This is far inferior to the version that is almost half the price. I rarely write reviews, but I had to warn against this one.

I assumed that, because this one is over $110 more than the smaller white mop by iRobot, it would be better. No ma'am!

This mop makes cleaning the floors ten times more tedious and 15 times less effective than just grabbing the Swiffer Wet Jet. Actually, since you can only put water in this, it's nowhere near as good.

While the smaller, cheaper, white version iRobot Braava jet 240 Mopping Robot - Robotic Mop sprays cleaning fluid/water out in front of it and mops it up (like a wet jet), this version does not. It just smears a TINY amount of water out of the leak hole in the water cavity. That holds almost nothing anyway. The only way I can actually get the floors wet enough is to soak the pad itself before I put it on the mop. Then, ten minutes later, its dried out again and I have to stop the robot and take off the pad and wet it again. Meanwhile, the water cavity has 85% of the water still in it.

Streaks galore on my wood floors. Don't get streaks with a Wet Jet.

The small white one works with an app on my smartphone. For $100 more, does this one? NO!

The cheaper white version has a vibrating head to scrub dirt and any stickiness from spills off. For $100 more, this one just smears dust over any any sticky spots and makes them dark!

The white, cheaper version automatically knows whether to do wet mopping, damp mopping, or dry sweeping. For $100 more, this crap version doesn't know what to do unless you tell it.

The cheaper, white version has three cleaning modes: wet, damp, dry. For $100 more, you get the subtracted benefit of only two modes: dry and "dry with a small wet streak down the middle"

Braava Is NOT a Replacement for a Scooba
by Darth Fader (1 out of 5 stars)
October 17, 2017

Wow, what a disappointment! We previously had a Scooba that we used for 7+ years until it finally died and didn't realize that iRobot no longer manufactures that line of product. Because we were so happy with the Scooba, we thought we'd give the Braava a try.

Sadly, the Braava is basically a robotic Swiffer.

If your floors are already clean and you want routine touch-ups, then this probably will work. Also, it seems to help if you have a rectangular kitchen...without a table.

If you're like us with young kids (read = crumbs everywhere), a kitchen table with booster seats, and an island that the navigation system doesn't like, then this mop won't cut it.

The Scooba would vacuum the crumbs, spray clean solution, brush scrub the area, then suction & squeegee the path of the dirty water, and that's where Braava just doesn't match up with just a damp mop cloth pushing debris around.

Also, it seems like the cleaning pattern of the Braava isn't nearly as effective as the Scooba. The Scooba would take about 45mins to clean our ENTIRE kitchen, and I've just watched the Braava going back and forth in the same area, ~1/4 of the kitchen, for 45mins.

Also, the Braava comes with a Navigation Cube and it still can't seem to figure out where to clean (the Scooba had no problem, even without a Navigation Cube).

Sadly, because iRobot no longer makes Scoobas, we just had to buy a used one on an online auction site.

I almost returned it. I had to change the way I think about cleaning. (Updated)
by PeoplePhobic (5 out of 5 stars)
September 20, 2017

Initially I was disappointed with the results. It doesn't get in there and mop as well as I can being an actual human with an entire bucket of water or more if I want and being able to see spots that need more attention. I almost returned it. I had to change the way I think about cleaning. I was mopping on weekends and I hated it. Then I realized the best way to use the Braava is every night or on a daily basis. It can't clean as good as I can once a week, but it can clean every night while I'm sleeping. This approach helped me appreciate the Braava a lot more. I have some dogness and my weekly clean wasn't exactly staying clean all week. Now it's always cleaned. I still have to spot clean some stuff but my weekends of ripping the house apart and sweeping and mopping everything are over. It's like I have a reset button on the condition of my house that I can just press every night. Anyway that's how you need to look at this device to get the most out of it. It even changes the way I think about cleaning other stuff. I can just dust whenever now because I don't care if i get dust on the floor because the robot will just get it later. I don't have to procedurally clean my house in a marathon from top to bottom in the optimal order anymore. My allergies have improved a lot because my house is always clean instead of clean for a few days. It's also helped my attitude a bit. I don't have to work at it and my house is always clean so It doesn't upset me when dogs or people mess up my floors anymore. It's just worth every penny.

The device itself is very quiet. Sometimes it will bump a door or something that will make a little noise but that's it.

It gets under pretty much everything. Frankly, it gets under more stuff than I ever did.

It charges fast. In about 2 hours it's ready to go again.

You need more than just the one pad it comes with. I would recommend at least one pad for every room for every day of the week. A fresh pad is like a new mop. If you only have one pad you'd have to wash it by hand or wait for it in the washer between uses and that is just more work than just mopping stuff yourself. You can't really use it the way it needs to be used with just the single pad it comes with.

Also get some dry swiffer pads and wet swiffer pads. The dry pads are quilted and seem like they do a better job than the cloth pads. the wet pads are handy for super quick cleans or stuff you really, really don't want to touch.

My one of my rooms is slightly larger than what it states the max range of the mop is but furniture (that it doesn't fit under), cabinets and stuff like that cuts down on the area. I can actually run it twice in that room on a single charge (it will run out of water though).

It occasionally gets stuck. it has a slight wedge shape to it. It's not hard to make it avoid problem areas though. place an obstacle in its way or hold down the mop or sweep button to get it into fast mode where it avoids stuff. I think if it was not at all wedge shaped it would avoid a lot of where it gets stuck.

It doesn't bother my dogs. It's quiet and they're used to it. Sometimes it will sneak up on them even, bumping them with humorous results.

Anyway I really like it. It's probably my favorite thing ever. It gives me a clean floor every night and gave me back a large portion of my weekends. I waited a long time for one with more range and eventually just settled for this one. I didn't need to. When I think back to all the moping I did myself and all the dirt I put up with waiting for the weekend to mop I feel like I wasted a lot of time. I would love an improved model but I'm very happy with this one.

Update: I had to replace the battery a couple months ago because mine wasn't charging. I opted for a Powerextra High Capacity one. It was pretty cheap and really increased the range. I'm actually happy that It stopped working because the extra range really speeds stuff up.

Also, I tried putting Nature's Miracle Dog Stain and Odor Remover in the mop reservoir because it's enzymatic like the iRobot scuba solution. So far that's working pretty well. I've been doing it for several months and I haven't noticed any of the damage to the tires like people mentioned with Lysol or other products.

I LOVE this Braava! Quiet, Low Profile, Dog and Cat Ignore it! But Here's What I Wish I'd Known when
by Anne P. Mitchell (4 out of 5 stars)
January 22, 2017

I want to say right at the start, I *love* this little mopping bot. There are so many great things about it (so why the subtraction of a star, from 5 to 4? Read on dear reader - but it's not fatal).

The quick overview is that this has two different 'pads'...these pads are to what you attach either a) the sweeper cloth, or b) the mopping cloth/wipe.

The sweep function is basically dusting your floor - this is *not* a vacuum, and there is no dirt container. But it does a great job for what it is. That said, I use the Braava primarily for mopping (I have a Roomba (the iRobot Roomba and an ILIFE V5s Robot Vacuum Cleaner with Water Tank Mopping
), so the rest of my review will be about that function.

The pad for the mopping cloth or wipe has a reservoir in the form of two channels running along the long sides of the pad; it also has a little bit of fabric in the center that wicks water from the reservoir onto the mopping cloth or wipe to keep it moist while mopping. It's a pretty ingenious design.

Why do I keep distinguishing between the mopping cloth, and a wipe?

Because this mopbot works with Swiffer wet mop refill wipes! (These: Swiffer Sweeper Wet Mopping Cloth Refills
)

The way the guidance system works is that you set the "GPS for your floor" cube somewhere in the room that you are going to have the Braava 'sweep' or mop, making sure that the cube has a clear view of the ceiling (so the Braava can connect with the cube's onboard Northstar Navigation system), and once the Braava is connected to the cube it maps the room, providing guidance for the Braava as to where to go.

First, yes, it works!

Second, it's incredibly quiet. So quiet that it doesn't even bother the dog or cat! Or me, when I'm working on my computer in the same room.

Third, it fits *under the bed* (and I have a low bed!)

Fourth, it works. (Had to say that twice. :-) ).

It's not fast. But then, it's not taking up *your* time. If it takes 30-45 minutes or more to mop the floor, so what? You're still spending 0 minutes mopping your floor. :-)

So, why the removal of 1 star? On the mopping pad there are two velcro strips. The adhesive on the back of these velcro strips pretty much immediately started coming loose - after the very first use. This can be fixed with a judicious application of super glue, but seriously? If I'm paying $250 for a high tech *mopping* device, maybe you can use a slightly better quality of adhesive in an area that you know is going to be subjected to moisture?

Overall, I highly recommend this device, but add this to your order (I chose this one because I like the way it applies the best, and have never run into the issue of the tip drying out): Loctite Ultra Gel Control Super Glue

Feature limited and expensive, but works decently.

Initial impression. I'll update after a few more uses.

I have mostly hardwood floors and two cats and can't keep up with cleaning them. I'm a bachelor and I haven't figured out how to clone a maid version of myself (yet) so I'm a big fan of something else doing the work. So I bought a Braava (and a Roomba 890 which I've also written a review about).

Out of the box, it came with a charging station, two mop/sweeper heads (more on these in a bit), two washable microfiber sweep/mop cloths, spare cleaner wick, a navigation cube with batteties, power cable, quick start guide and manual. Packaging was neat and protective.

Prepping the Braava is simple. Charge on the charging station. Pick a place for the cube (it has to see the ceiling unimpeded - supposedly). Choose your weapon (sweep or mop). At this point there's two options. You can either use their sweeping microfiber or their mopping microfiber on a head that uses velcro and will also accept cleaner in receptacle that runs the length of the head and holds more than it appears. Or, also included is a swiffer type head that will hold their disposable sweep or mop cloths. I have a ton of those from the olden times of doing this manually like a pleb, so I opted for the swiffer mop. My Roomba had already done the yeoman's work of cleaning up the cat fur and litter those inconsiderate jerks leave all over the place. A thing to note: the cleaner wick will need replacing periodically.

The preparatory good: options, ease of use.

The preparatory bad: the charge indicator is a bold faced liar. It charged overnight and still claimed to be needing a charge. The battery was full though.

Using the Braava involves placing it at a "start/end" location, turning on the cube, which has a directional mark to point towards the center of the room, and setting it loose. Two buttons make it go; one for sweep, one for mop. The sweeper has a different cleaning pattern, which is good. Unlike a Roomba, the Braava does not return to its charging station. It ends where it started. You need to prep it for the charging station by removing any liquids/wet cloths from the Braava before setting it in its base. It doesn't lay flat. It stands on end for space saving which is good. Also unlike the Roomba, there is no scheduling and no app for controlling (or naming it Pleb One).

Operation good: two modes for two patterns, easy to use, space saving charger.

Operation bad: not schedulable, requires prep for charging.

Performance was a mix of really great, and really bad. The wet swiffer cloth works better if you tell it to sweep instead of mop. It covers more area per cloth. But at the same time, does a pretty mediocre job (expected). In mop mode it is really thorough. And it's super quiet. Battery seems to last well. It ran for two hours on one charge. It respects carpet/rugs, but also won't go over the floor strips in door ways. It got stuck several times under furniture and doesn't see iRobot virtual wall/halos so make sure to pick up pet food dishes.

I think in the future I'll fill the proprietary cloth mopper with just water and set it loose, and then give it the swiffer cleaner cloth. Maybe this will help the process work better. I dunno. It might not finish two rounds on one charge. Maybe. It ran for two hours, but it is no quarterhorse. It works at the pace of a union skilled laborer. ie: not fast. It also had difficulty seeing a living space with connected kitchen but a bar divider. I had to move the cube to get it to mop both areas. The space is roughly 20' by 25' which the cube is supposed to cover but did not.

Performance good: quiet, thorough, won't mop your rugs, runs for a long time on one charge.

Performance bad: requires babysitting for the mop cloth and the getting stuck, the swiffer mop option is almost fools gold, doesn't see halos/virtual walls, won't transition between rooms with a floor strip in the doorway, navigation was not stellar.

So overall, I like the idea of not sweeping or mopping, which really is the sales point. So it's an as expected product. It does both while I do neither. It's thorough but you have to keep in on task. Almost like having your kids sweep and mop, but works longer than your kids will. The job it does is decent. It gives you options. And it's quiet and easy to use. But at its price, I do expect more features and better navigation. .

More positives than negatives. And really, many of the negatives are sorta nitpicking, and can also be said about the Roomba which is in a much more mature development place. I don't think anyone will buy this and expect it to be sentient and self-maintained. I gave it three stars. It might get four once I figure out how to use it more effectively. The price and lack of features make sure it will never get a 5 star rating though. It would need recognize other iRobot accessories and have better navigation to get over the four stars mark.

So far so good...
by Folake Taylor (4 out of 5 stars)
December 10, 2018

Just started using it so will come back to update. I'm pleased that with just one northstar cube that came in the package, it appears to be able to cover the whole living room area with the dry mopping. I had bought both this and the smaller 240, and it was a hard decision because that was smaller and cheaper, and had slightly better reviews. But I have a huge lower level which is all hardwood, so I had to go with the one that is meant for that kind of job.
380t-350 sqft wet and 1000 sqft dry
240-150 sqft wet and 250 sqft dry

If I could afford to keep both, I'd keep the little one for the bathrooms. One of my major hesitations about this was the navigation system. The small one has an easy virtual wall you can put up, and also works with an app. I found that easy to understand. While this is still busy working, so far it's looking like an OK nav. Not perfect, but it goes around things in an advanced way, and I'm just pumped that though I set the cube to the center of my kitchen, it's getting most of the sitting area as well. We'll see how it goes. I did take an initial video.

The real test will be the wet mop. Of note is the fact that there's a lot of user error in these reviews. The top review on here with more than 2000 likes says she had to wet the pad for it to work. The instruction says you need to do that. The one you don't wet is the smaller white one. Also, she said you can only put water in it. Also wrong. You're supposed to put a floor cleaning agent such as the iRobot one, Bona, or some swiffer products. Water will not be effective, so it explains her suboptimal results.

I understand the confusion, having 2 similar products. That's why I bought both to compare the product info side by side, cos I was getting a headache trying to sort it out in my head. If you Google comparisons online, the 380t is a far superior product to the 240 white one everywhere except on Amazon. If I went with only Amazon reviews, I'd have chosen the one that's far too small for my needs, unless you only have a small kitchen and want to use it there and bathrooms only.

As we use products, we need to read the information properly, look up comparisons on different sites, and make a true informed decision instead of misleading people, and then when we use it, follow instructions. I bought this on black Friday weekend as part of Cyber Monday sales. I'm just trying it out more than 2 weeks later. It took me that long to fully understand the product.

One more thing, this dry sweeping does not take the place of a proper sweep with a robovac. I had thoroughly done that with a Bobsweep Pet Plus earlier in the day for all the obvious dirt and dog hair. The dry mop is for finer pieces of dirt that can end up scratching the floor if left on there and I had gone straight to wet mopping. All these are in the instructions.

I realized it was impossible to have one machine sweep and mop thoroughly, even though they seem to market them that way till you read the fine print. For example, Bob (Bobsweep) has a dry or damp mop option. But then I'd have to buy all these blocks with signals to keep it off the rug!!! At $40 a pop. And no water reservoir. You almost need a course to get this right. Lol.

Good luck.

So far so good. Cannot believe how far away it is from the cube right now, still connected and still gently navigating around and under legs of chairs, sofas and stools.

It stops at the edge of the rug and has not deposited any dirt at the edge of it so far.

Updates to come...

If it earns the 5th star after the wet mop, I'll add it. If not, I'll leave as 4 stars. Still a bit of a Doubting Thomas right now. 🤣

So, several hours in, after it started to do the places to the left of where it started, it also went into the formal dining area, the foyer, and I'm waiting to see if it'll get to the front room. Considering that my "center of room" pointed to the center of the kitchen, it's amazing that this bot has found the whole 1st floor (almost) by itself. I'm pretty certain that as I learn it better, and I position the cube better, it will cover all of the first floor with ease.

The dog is not too happy however. She got used to the robovac and now there's a mopping bot. A lil too much. 😱

It did eventually find the front room as well.

The pic shows what it looks like after dry sweeping more than 1000 sq ft of hardwood, including under furniture for 2.5 hrs. That's if you already used a robovac to vacuum first.

I do wish it worked with an app. No matter how advanced the nav system, if it doesn't have a remote and I can't plan the trip on an app, and it doesn't have a virtual wall where I can just confine it to the kitchen and say sweep here only today, it's not quite as advanced as I would like it to be though. For that reason, I'm keeping the one star to myself.

The BATTERY is really disappointing. I purchased it on July 2017. Now in Jan 2018, just after 6 MONTHS OF LIGHT USING, the battery is dying. Further annoying thing is its warranty for the battery is exactly 6 month. I cannot understand it. For light usage of 1-2 times/week, a battery can die. We pay so much for a machine, and we only get the cheapest battery.

by Steve Nemo (1 out of 5 stars)
April 29, 2018

The Braava worked great until it stopped working at all, after a little over a year (and thus out of warranty). This was bad enough, but the reason for my review is that tech support was terrible. I talked to different people at least four separate times.

First, I was told to replace the control cube; I did, but it still didn't work.

Then they told me that I needed an new base, which they sold me for about $130. That didn't work either.

Last, they told me it might be the battery and that they would send me one for free. That was about six months ago. So I paid for a new one myself (from Amazon), and that didn't work either.

I'm mechanically and technically adept, so the problem certainly lies with iRobot's tech support policies and practices.

If you buy this item, think of it as renting it for a year or so, for $249.

In other words, look for another company's product. Look at the other 1 star reviews--my experience is not unique. And I know (from a prior job) that written complaints are only the tip of the iceberg.

Not worth the money and the trouble.
by Amazon Customer (1 out of 5 stars)

I LOVE this thing! I have never had a robotic mop before, only a vacuum, so I didn't know what to expect. I opened the package, looked it over and thought "Uh, how in the world is this going to get the floor clean?" Then I saw the reservoir for water/cleaner and really had doubts because it was so small; however, to my surprise, it worked VERY well. It moves around in a weird pattern but it works. It charges fast also. I have three dogs that track in dirty paw prints all of the time. My floor was constantly dirty because I just couldn't keep up with it. Literally, 30 minutes after I would clean the entire floor it would be dirty again and I'd given up on keeping it clean all of the time and settled for once or twice a week. Now it's clean all of the time!

I have to update my review on this: I bought this on 02/14/18. Since that time the reservoir cracked and leaked. I had probably used it 10 times in a very normal environment. I don't have kids that mess with it and while I do have small dogs, they don't even look at it, so it did not get hard use. The company was great and they replaced it. I have now used it about five times and the reservoir is now starting to crack again. I know it won't be long before it starts leaking. This is not acceptable. I gave it three stars because it is a great idea. It works really well and is so quiet that I can barely hear it. I'm pretty bummed that two different reservoirs have now cracked om a three month time period. I'm going to try and duct tape it and see if that will help. Anyway, I wouldn't buy it again because of this. I don't use the dusting feature because I have a robo vacuum that takes care of that.

Update 09/04/18: I am on my third reservoir now (or fourth, I can't even remember at this point) as the first two cracked right away. So far this reservoir hasn't cracked (I've used it approx. five times) but now when it mops it leaves long streaks of suds from the Bono all over the floor. I am not doing anything different than I did before so I have no idea why it is doing that, especially since this reservoir isn't even cracked like the other two were. I wouldn't buy it again and I'm very disappointed in it.

Last update on this terrible product: I have had this thing for eight months now. I've used it approximately 20 times. I am now on the fifth, FIFTH reservoir. I had not used it for about three months and I took the reservoir out today. When I put it away it was clean, dry and stored in a safe place with no cracks. I picked it up and pieces of it broke off just from picking it up!!! So with not using it at all, it cracked in numerous places! I have one reservoir left and once that cracks, which will be very quickly, I'm throwing the whole thing away. I would never buy this brand again.
