A great remote overall!
by Saenar Drift (5 out of 5 stars)

This is the first time I've ever tried a remote for my action camera, and I'm very pleased with it! Not only can I re-charge it with a USB that comes with it (USB to mini-USB) as opposed to having it run on batteries like so many others I've read about, but I'm able to run 3 cameras off of it. Despite the fact it's made for the "Drift Ghost" camera, it works with the 3 "Drift Stealth 2" cameras I've got. The only thing I don't like about it, is that I have to turn on each camera individually, but then one press of the button with the "Drift" logo in it, starts all 3 recording. Then pressing the other button stops them. You can even take a picture while you're recording, by pressing the record button once quickly while you're recording! You'll know it's taken a picture when you look at your camera, and the display goes green for a moment. It still continues to record, so when you view the footage later, even though you took a picture, the footage does'nt show any kind of interruption, which I like. You do however, have to make certain that the remote is still blinking blue while you take your picture, because after about 2 - 3 minutes, it'll go into 'hibernation' mode, stop blinking, and not take a picture. To bring it out of 'hibernation', just hold the record button 'till it begins to blink blue again (which re-activates it). I think it blinks blue, because it's in 'Wi-Fi' mode. Anyway, I'm very happy I got this remote, but I just wish I could both have the cameras turn on, as well as begin recording with one button press. Oh well, I guess you can't have it all, huh? Still, this is a great remote!

Good accessory for Drift Stealth camera, could have been great.

I bought this to use with my Drift Stealth. I haven't had a chance to use it while riding my motorcycle yet, but have paired it and verified that it works as advertised.

There are a couple issues that other reviews have mentioned. The first is the fact that it doesn't turn the camera on. Both need to be turned on manually. The second is that it uses a mini USB for charging, while the Drift Stealth uses a micro USB for charging. Really a dumb design decision that requires two different USB cords for charging. My next purchase is going to be a USB cord with mini and micro combination....

Pros:
- Large enough size to be easily operated while wearing gloves.
- LED colors change to match the LED color display of the camera, so you can switch modes easily and verify the mode by the color on the remote, if the camera is helmet mounted or otherwise out of view.

Cons:
- Can't turn camera on.
- Mini USB required for charging while camera uses Micro USB

Great idea, almost great execution

This is an excellent idea for a product, with "very good but not quite great" execution of that idea. I use the remote to control a Stealth 2 video camera (for cycling). It works well overall. The buttons are large, easy to hit (even with gloves), and simple to learn. Operation is easily mastered with the instructions. Battery life has seemed fine, but winter rides are shorter than summer rides, so my opinion could change. Charging is easy via USB port - computer, car, wall adapter. It did not pair with my camera as easily as expected, but still took only a few attempts. The instructions on that were a bit unclear at one step - but user error is very possible. The light bars along each edge are very bright and flash continuously (see pic). The color matches the current mode on the camera, and changes briefly while executing an action - such as taking a picture. I found the constant blinking distracting, and covered most of the lights with black tape, leaving only a small portion visible.

Several reviewers have noted a couple of issues that I'll touch on. 1) The remote does not turn the camera on. This is a minor inconvenience, although it seems like it would be easy enough to incorporate. 2) The remote takes a mini-USB cable while the camera uses a micro-USB. Both devices are from the same company; and, since I use them together, having to take two charging cables is a slight bother.

Now to my main issue with the device, and the reason for only four stars. The remote is too big. It is much bigger than even a large watch, and I found it unwieldy on my wrist (see pic). This also makes it hard to attach to the bike; it is far too wide to sit stably on the handlebars or the stem. I don't know if the features required this size, but considering what they packed into the tiny camera (see pic) it seems more like a deliberate decision.

Overall, I like the device and am glad to have it. It beats fumbling for smaller buttons on the camera. Even though it is hard to attach for my particular application, it is still a useful accessory.

Works well and safer than fumbling for buttons on top of your helmet

I use this remote to control a Stealth 2 helmet cam while riding my motorcycle. It works great for what I need it to do. Before I got this I had to fumble around feeling for the buttons or I just turned on the camera before donning my helmet and recorded everything until the battery ran out. The most annoying thing is it uses a mini-USB charging cable instead of the ubiquitous micro-USB like is used on the Stealth camera and most phones. So don't loose the cable while you're on a trip because they are difficult to find (lesson learned, pack an extra). But it solves the most important issues of being able to easily and safely capture videos and photos while riding, so I can't complain too much.

communication between the remote and the drift is excellent. it changes modes and records just as advertised. if I had one suggestion. since it is very sensitive. it would be nice if you could lock it into a mode manually until done with a session if you wanted to.

I read a review saying it was compatible to the older version. Come to find out its not. Now I have to get a new ghost for it to work.

Works well. Buttons require a fairly hard push. Wish the flashing light indicators blinked a bit more quickly as you need to look at it for slightly more than a second to see blink color which means eyes aren't in road. On the other hand when it's dark out, wow are those indicator lights bright.

All and all though very convenient to have and much softer than trying to adjust camera on a helmet while moving.

Finally got it to sync with 2 cameras. I think battery life could be longer, but it is as advertised.
