The finest letter opener in the realm
by Mad Onion Slicer / Dhruv Shanker (5 out of 5 stars)
March 28, 2016

This is by far, the finest letter opener in the realm. I no longer simply open my mail. I un-sheath Longclaw every morning and slay each envelope with the deadly finesse of a battle worn warrior. I deal swift and terrible justice to spam. With Longclaw by my side, I know that opening a water bill will never be the same again. Forged from the finest Valyrian steel, this letter opener strikes fear into the hearts of bills, notices and payment reminders alike. As much as I would like to recite a ballad in this letter opener's honour - I must now go, for I have just received a birthday card from someone in Canada and must open it immediately. I guess the North does remember after all.

Too dull for opening letters but perfect for my little pupper's costume
by BonnieB (4 out of 5 stars)

I have the larger replica from ValyrianSteel.com and this is a very good miniature version. Other reviews are right about the dullness of it. It's pretty thick for a letter opener. I'm a little perturbed that Ghost's snoot has been scratched(?) off at the top of the hilt. But it's nothing that I would bother complaining about in an official capacity. If it was sharper and there was no scratch then I would have given it 5 stars.

It's good enough and lucky for me I'm not using it for its intended purpose. My dog is going to be Jon Snow for Halloween this year and it's the perfect size for her to wield against the night's evil Walkers and other misc monsters. (So I'm actually very glad it is not too sharp!)

Mediocre for the price
by C4 (3 out of 5 stars)

Update: I bought it when it was $24.50 from Amazon with free shipping... Honestly, I would not recommend anyone getting it at the price point of $39.99 as of now. Used to be mediocre, now it's completely not worth it.

Old review:

As a collector of letter openers, I wasn't sure what to expect when I placed the order, but I was looking forward to it. (I owned Andúril from LoTR for nearly a decade, presumably from Noble Collection as well and it's awesome.)

Pro: It's Longclaw. If you're a fan of the series, it's pretty cool. The red eyes are sturdy and the guard's quite solid.

Cons: Cheap looking plastic box like many said, and the blade wasn't sharp enough. Some of my envelopes were torn apart unevenly during the process. I could've done the same thing with my hands, which defeats the purpose of a letter opener. I wasn't sure about the white direwolf head. I guess I still expected it to be of a higher quality, with better paint and engraved pattern. The edges were chipping when I received it and the wolf neck ended up looking cheap. (See picture.) I'm sure it's not because I've received a defective product, and simply it's just the overall quality.

Not too impressed, but it's acceptable.

Not sharp enough to take down a Whitewalker (Or letter for that matter)
by A. Hackbarth (3 out of 5 stars)

Pros:

The letter opener is impressively big and feels good in your hand.

It is a very cool likeness of the sword Longclaw.

Cons:

It is FAR too dull to open letters without exerting much more than necessary additional force. (Hence 3 stars)

Since it is long/BIG for a letter opener folks with small hands may find it awkward to hold/use.

First, let me say this is a cool looking letter opener. It is everything I was hoping for in the looks department. It is a little big for someone with smaller hands, but not too heavy for a solid letter opener. It does have one glaring weakness. It is so dull you have to force it to open letters. If it opened letters as well as it kills whitewalkers, I would be giving it 5 stars.

TINY SWORD BATTLES!
by badgerbadger104 (5 out of 5 stars)

Great product for all of your letter opening needs or to wave behind your husband's back in mock combat as he walks out of the room. *ahem* ...so I've heard.

I purchased this because while I am attempting to justify the $200+ purchase of the 1:1 scale replica Longclaw, I have to make do with this and the Longclaw umbrella. For now, it appeases me in this regard.

Nicely made product, no design or manufacturing flaws, and most importantly, cool looking. Great purchase for those of us obsessed with ASOIAF/GoT.

Perfect letter opener
by Moses Chen (5 out of 5 stars)

I've never used a letter opener before but now I know why you need one. I used to either rip the mail open by hand, which is always a gamble if it will stay in a straight line, or use a small keychain knife. Both options are terrible compared to using an actual letter opener.

This Longclaw letter opener is great. It's actually bigger than I expected and the details are nice. It's almost too nice to use, it could definitely work as a prop for a figure or something. Very sturdy and opens letters easily. I've seen some mention that it is too dull and requires a lot of effort. It's my understanding that letter openers are not supposed to cut, rather tear the edge open. I recommend the video "HOW TO USE A LETTER OPENER... Its not a knife" on YT.

It works perfectly fine for me but maybe that's because I enjoy tearing mail open in swift strokes with this sword. It's definitely much more satisfying to open mail with Longclaw. I definitely recommend this to anyone who doesn't have a letter opener or is looking for one with a nice design.

Not only will this letter opener protect you form White Walkers, but it will also defend you from all the junk mail that may come in the mail. It can very easily slice through all your envelopes foes with ease.

It's so much more than a letter opener. It's a Mini Replica of Longclaw. Gorgeous!

What can I say? Jon Snow knows how to help me open letters with style. As long as you have to pay bills, you may as well do it with style and ritual. This letter opener is so well made! It's also bigger than I expected which is great for opening small package envelopes. Avoid paper cuts and open your bills with some panache. Plus it looks great on your desk. I'm so pleased with it.

Perfect for Jon Snow lovers
by Alan (5 out of 5 stars)

It's very nice. Aesthetically I prefer the Ned Stark sword, Ice.

The wolfs head is plastic, and there is no way around that. I'm being very picky with that criticism. It's lovely and no Game of Thrones fan would be disappointed in this item.

Thrill your Game of Thrones friends by gifting them this "sword."

I wish the maker would do a replica of Needle.

It's good stuff, you will not be disappointed.

Awesome letter opener
by Mike (5 out of 5 stars)

We use this at work for fun and pass it back and forth. For the price, it's of excellent quality. It is handled on a weekly basis and played around with and had even survived a few minor drops in one piece. If you're a game of thrones fan or buying a gift for someone who is, this is a great letter opener.

Note, the edges of the blade are not sharp. However, the point is definitely sharp enough to make this not recommended for children who haven't been taught how to handle scissors or other sharp utility tools.
